Reading plan

🌿

For healing

For the days of pain, of waiting and of starting again.

About this plan

This plan is for days of pain, waiting and starting again, whether from an illness, a surgery or something that appears on no exam. The texts speak of healing of the body and of what no one sees, and the Bible mixes the two naturally.

Psalm 147:3 says God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds, the image of someone dressing an injury. Jeremiah 30:17 is part of the «book of consolation» (chapters 30 to 33), spoken to an exiled people: the promise is one of restoration. Psalm 103:3 puts forgiveness and healing in the same verse, which shows how its author thought of the whole person. Isaiah 53:5, in the poem of the suffering servant, says that by his wounds we are healed, and 1 Peter 2:24 quotes it. James 5:15 speaks of the prayer of faith for the sick, in the setting of a church that calls the elders (5:14). Matthew 11:28 closes the plan with an invitation to the weary and burdened, without mentioning illness: healing is also rest.

Read one passage a day, slowly, aloud if you can, and keep the sentence that stayed with you. The plan lasts six days.

Reading goes alongside health care and never takes its place: it is no stand-in for medical or psychological help. Continue the treatment your doctor prescribed and see a professional about any new symptom.
