For faith

For when the answer takes long and faith needs firewood.

About this plan

This plan is for when the answer takes long and faith needs firewood. The six passages do not treat faith as a feeling: they deal with listening, trust and asking plainly.

Hebrews 11:1 opens the chapter devoted to figures who trusted without seeing the outcome, from Abel to Abraham, and defines faith as the assurance of what is not seen. Romans 10:17 says faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ, which explains why this plan is made of reading. 2 Corinthians 5:7 sums it up in one line: we walk by faith, not by sight. Mark 11:24 is a promise about asking with conviction, spoken by Jesus beside the withered fig tree, and James 1:6 gives the counterpoint: whoever asks must ask without doubting, like one not tossed back and forth by the wind. Matthew 17:20 closes the plan with the image of the mustard seed, spoken to disciples who could not heal a boy: the size of faith counts less than its existence.

Read one passage a day and, in each, look for what the person is asked to do: listen, walk, ask. Then write down one thing you have decided to trust, even without seeing.
