Reading plan

🤲

For forgiveness

About forgiving another — and about letting yourself be forgiven.

About this plan

This plan is for those who carry a grievance and for those who carry guilt. Half the passages are about forgiving another and the other half about receiving forgiveness, and the plan mixes them on purpose.

Colossians 3:13 and Ephesians 4:32 are letters of Paul with the same argument: forgive as God forgave you in Christ. The model of forgiveness lies outside the one who forgives. Matthew 6:14 comes right after the Lord's Prayer, which already asked «forgive us our debts, as we forgive» (6:12), and Jesus returns to the point so that no one lets it pass. Luke 6:37 is from the Sermon on the Plain, where forgiving appears beside not judging and not condemning. The two texts about being forgiven are 1 John 1:9, which ties forgiveness to the confession of one who admits their own wrong, and Psalm 103:12, with the image that God removes transgressions as far as the east is from the west.

Read one passage a day and write a name: someone you need to forgive or someone whose forgiveness you need. You do not have to message anyone to finish the plan. If the situation involves violence or risk, seek professional support before any conversation.
