The Lives of the Prophets 1

Hagiography

Ler em portuguêsCompare PT / EN

Nathan the prophet lived in the days of David, of the tribe of Thok.

2He was from Gabath, and he it was who taught David the law of the Lord.

3And Nathan knew that King David had transgressed in the matter of Bathsheba.

4And as he hastened to come from Gabath to Jerusalem and to restrain David from this lawlessness, Belial hindered him; for on the way he found a dead man lying naked, and he remained to bury him there, lest he be devoured by wild beasts.

5And that night he knew that David had committed the sin, and he turned back, mourning, to Gabath.

6And when David had slain Uriah, the husband of Bathsheba, God sent Nathan, and he rebuked David for his sin.

7And David feared the Lord because he was convicted of what he had done; and David knew that the holy spirit of God was upon Nathan the prophet, and he honored him as a holy man of God.

8And Nathan himself, having grown very old, died, and was buried in Gabath in his own land.
