Zechariah the prophet: he was the son of Barachiah.
2He came from the land of the Chaldeans, already advanced in years, and being there he prophesied much to the people, and gave many portents in proof.
3He said to Josedek that he would beget a son, and that he would serve as priest to the Lord in Jerusalem.
4He also blessed Salathiel concerning a son, saying: "You shall beget a son, and you shall call his name Zerubbabel."
5And in the time of Cyrus, king of the Persians, he gave a sign of victory concerning Croesus, king of the Lydians, and Astyages, king of the Medes; and he prophesied concerning the service which Cyrus would render to Jerusalem.
6And he blessed him greatly.
7And what concerned his prophecy in Jerusalem, and the end of the nations, and the building of the temple of Jerusalem, and the idleness of prophets and priests, and the double judgment, he set forth.
8And he died in Judea in a long old age, and was buried near Haggai the prophet.
