1Zacarias, o profeta: era filho de Baraquias.

1Zechariah the prophet: he was the son of Barachiah.

2Veio da terra dos caldeus, já avançado em anos, e, estando ali, profetizou muito ao povo e deu muitos prodígios como prova.

2He came from the land of the Chaldeans, already advanced in years, and being there he prophesied much to the people, and gave many portents in proof.

3Disse a Josedeque que geraria um filho e que este serviria como sacerdote ao Senhor em Jerusalém.

3He said to Josedek that he would beget a son, and that he would serve as priest to the Lord in Jerusalem.

4Abençoou também Salatiel a respeito de um filho, dizendo: “Gerarás um filho e lhe porás o nome de Zorobabel.”

4He also blessed Salathiel concerning a son, saying: "You shall beget a son, and you shall call his name Zerubbabel."

5E no tempo de Ciro, rei dos persas, deu um sinal de vitória a respeito de Creso, rei dos lídios, e de Astíages, rei dos medos; e profetizou acerca do serviço que Ciro prestaria a Jerusalém.

5And in the time of Cyrus, king of the Persians, he gave a sign of victory concerning Croesus, king of the Lydians, and Astyages, king of the Medes; and he prophesied concerning the service which Cyrus would render to Jerusalem.

6E o abençoou grandemente.

6And he blessed him greatly.

7E o que se referia à sua profecia em Jerusalém, e ao fim das nações, e à edificação do templo de Jerusalém, e à ociosidade dos profetas e sacerdotes, e ao duplo juízo, expôs.

7And what concerned his prophecy in Jerusalem, and the end of the nations, and the building of the temple of Jerusalem, and the idleness of prophets and priests, and the double judgment, he set forth.

8E morreu na Judeia, em longa velhice, e foi sepultado perto de Ageu, o profeta.

8And he died in Judea in a long old age, and was buried near Haggai the prophet.
