THE WISDOM OF SOLOMON · Day 4 of 14
Wisdom in Relationships
1 · READ THE TEXT
Proverbs 17:9,17 & 27:5-6,17
Proverbs 17:9
Open in the reader →9He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth very friends.
Proverbs 17:17
Open in the reader →17A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
Proverbs 27:5-6
Open in the reader →5Open rebuke is better than secret love. 6Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.
Proverbs 27:17
Open in the reader →17Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
2 · UNDERSTAND
Proverbs treats friendship as a craft that takes skill. "Whoever covers an offence seeks love, but whoever repeats a matter separates close friends": there is a huge difference between solving a problem and keeping it as a weapon forever. "Better is open rebuke than hidden love" — whoever truly cares risks displeasing. And the most famous image: iron sharpens iron, which only happens with friction and closeness. Wise relationship, in the Bible, is not the one that avoids conflict; it is the one that knows how to carry conflict without destroying the person.

4 · LIVE AND PRAY
Practical application
Pick someone close and do one of two things today: stop bringing up an old mistake of theirs, or gently say the truth you have been swallowing.
Lesson prayer
Lord, give me courage to tell the truth and tenderness not to wound. May my mouth build up those closest to me. Amen.
