4 Baruch (The Rest of the Words of Baruch) 3

Paraleipomena of Jeremiah

Ler em portuguêsCompare PT / EN

And when the hour of the night came, as the Lord had said unto Jeremiah, Jeremiah and Baruch came together upon the walls of the city.

2And there was the sound of a trumpet, and angels came forth out of heaven, holding torches in their hands, and stood upon the walls of the city.

3And when Jeremiah and Baruch saw them, they wept, saying: Now we know that the word is true.

4And Jeremiah besought the angels, saying: I beseech you, let not the city be destroyed yet, until I speak a word unto the Lord. And the Lord said unto the angels: Destroy not the city until I speak unto my chosen Jeremiah.

5And he said: I entreat thee, O Lord, command me to speak before thee. And the Lord said: Speak, my chosen Jeremiah.

6And Jeremiah said: Behold now, O Lord, we know that thou deliverest thy city into the hands of her enemies, and they shall carry the people away into Babylon.

7What shall we do with thy holy things, or the vessels of thy service? What wilt thou that we do with them?

8And the Lord said unto him: Take them, and deliver them unto the earth and to the altar, saying: Hear, O earth, the voice of him that created thee in the abundance of the waters, who sealed thee with seven seals, in seven times; and after these things thou shalt receive thy beauty. Keep the vessels of the service until the gathering of the beloved.

9And Jeremiah spake: I beseech thee, O Lord, show me what I shall do unto Abimelech the Ethiopian; for he hath done many kindnesses to the people and to thy servant Jeremiah; for he drew me up out of the pit of mire; and I would not that he should see the destruction of the city and the desolation thereof, but that he be not grieved.

10And the Lord said unto Jeremiah: Send him unto the vineyard of Agrippa by way of the mountain, and I will shelter him, until I bring the people back into the city.

11And the Lord said unto Jeremiah: Depart with thy people unto Babylon, and abide with them, preaching the glad tidings unto them, until I bring them back into the city.

12But leave Baruch here, until I speak unto him.

13And when the Lord had said these things, he went up from Jeremiah into heaven.

14And Jeremiah and Baruch entered into the sanctuary, and delivered the vessels of the service unto the earth, as the Lord had spoken unto them; and forthwith the earth swallowed them up; and the two sat down, and wept.

15And when morning was come, Jeremiah sent Abimelech, saying: Take the basket, and go unto the field of Agrippa by the way of the mountain, and bring a few figs, and give them to the sick of the people; for upon thee is the gladness of the Lord, and upon thy head the glory.

16And he went away as he had said unto him.
