Paraleipomena of Jeremiah

Ler em portuguêsCompare PT / EN

And the day came in which God brought the people out of Babylon; and the Lord said unto Jeremiah:

2Arise, thou and the people, and come to the Jordan, and thou shalt say to the people: Whoso desireth the Lord, let him forsake the works of Babylon, and the men that have taken wives of them, and the women that have taken husbands of them.

3And let them that hearken unto thee cross over, and take them up to Jerusalem; but them that hearken not unto thee, bring them not into it.

4And Jeremiah spake unto them these words; and rising up they came to the Jordan to cross over, he telling them the words which the Lord had said unto him. And the half of them that had married would not hearken unto Jeremiah, but said unto him: We will never forsake our wives; but let us bring them back with us into our city.

5So they crossed the Jordan, and came unto Jerusalem. And Jeremiah stood, and Baruch and Abimelech, saying: Every man that hath fellowship with the Babylonians shall not enter into this city.

6And they said unto them: Arise, let us return unto Babylon, unto our place. And they went.

7And when they were come into Babylon, the Babylonians came forth to meet them, saying: Ye shall not enter into our city, for ye hated us, and went forth from us secretly; therefore ye shall not come in unto us. For we have bound one another with an oath by the name of our God, neither to receive you nor your children, since ye went forth from us secretly.

8And having perceived it, they returned; and they came unto a desert place, far from Jerusalem, and built for themselves a city, and called the name of it Samaria.

9And Jeremiah sent unto them, saying: Repent; for there cometh the angel of righteousness, and will bring you into your high place.
