1 Clemente 14

1Portanto é justo e conveniente, irmãos, que sejamos obedientes a Deus, em vez de seguir os que, com arrogância e insubordinação, se constituíram chefes num abominável ciúme.

1Therefore it is right and proper, brethren, that we should be obedient unto God, rather than follow those who in arrogance and unruliness have set themselves up as leaders in abominable jealousy.

2Pois traremos sobre nós não um dano comum, mas antes grande perigo, se nos entregarmos imprudentemente aos propósitos de homens que se lançam à contenda e às sedições, de modo a nos afastar do que é reto.

2For we shall bring upon us no common harm, but rather great peril, if we surrender ourselves recklessly to the purposes of men who launch out into strife and seditions, so as to estrange us from that which is right.

3Sejamos bons uns para com os outros, segundo a compaixão e a doçura d'Aquele que nos fez. Pois está escrito:

3Let us be good one towards another according to the compassion and sweetness of Him that made us. For it is written:

4Os bons serão moradores da terra, e os inocentes ficarão nela; mas os que transgridem serão inteiramente destruídos dela.

4The good shall be dwellers in the land, and the innocent shall be left on it but they that transgress shall be destroyed utterly from it.

5E de novo diz: Vi o ímpio elevado ao alto e exaltado como os cedros do Líbano. E passei, e eis que ele já não existia; e busquei o seu lugar, e não o achei. Guarda a inocência e contempla a retidão; pois há um remanescente para o homem pacífico.

5And again He saith I saw the ungodly lifted up on high and exalted as the cedars of Lebanon. And I passed by, and behold he was not; and sought out his place, and I found it not. Keep innocence and behold uprightness; for there is a remnant for the peaceful man.
