1 Clemente 17

1Sejamos também imitadores dos que andaram em peles de cabra e de ovelha, pregando a vinda de Cristo. Referimo-nos a Elias e Eliseu e igualmente a Ezequiel, os profetas, e além deles também aqueles homens que obtiveram bom testemunho.

1Let us be imitators also of them which went about in goatskins and sheepskins, preaching the coming of Christ. We mean Elijah and Elisha and likewise Ezekiel, the prophets, and besides them those men also that obtained a good report.

2Abraão obteve excelente testemunho e foi chamado amigo de Deus; e, olhando fixamente para a glória de Deus, diz em humildade de mente: Mas eu sou pó e cinza.

2Abraham obtained an exceeding good report and was called the friend of God; and looking steadfastly on the glory of God, he saith in lowliness of mind, But I am dust and ashes.

3Além disso, acerca de Jó também está escrito assim: E Jó era justo e irrepreensível, verdadeiro, e honrava a Deus, e se abstinha de todo mal.

3Moreover concerning Job also it is thus written; And Job was righteous and unblamable, one that was true and honored God and abstained from all evil.

4Contudo ele mesmo se acusa, dizendo: Nenhum homem da imundície; não, ainda que a sua vida seja de um só dia.

4Yet he himself accuseth himself saying, No man from filth; no, not though his life be but for a day.

5Moisés foi chamado fiel em toda a Sua casa, e por meio do seu ministério Deus julgou o Egito com as pragas e os tormentos que sobre eles vieram. Contudo ele também, embora grandemente glorificado, não proferiu palavras soberbas, mas disse, quando lhe foi dado um oráculo na sarça: Quem sou eu, para que me envies?

5Moses was called faithful in all His house, and through his ministration God judged Egypt with the plagues and the torments which befell them. Howbeit he also, though greatly glorified, yet spake no proud words, but said, when an oracle was given to him at the bush, Who am I, that Thou sendest me?

6Não, sou de fala fraca e língua pesada. E de novo diz: Mas eu sou fumaça da panela.

6Nay, I am feeble of speech and slow of tongue. And again he saith, But I am smoke from the pot.
