1 Clemente 23

1O Pai, que é misericordioso em todas as coisas e pronto a fazer o bem, compadece-se dos que O temem, e bondosa e amorosamente concede os Seus favores aos que se aproximam d'Ele com mente simples.

1The Father, who is pitiful in all things, and ready to do good, hath compassion on them that fear Him, and kindly and lovingly bestoweth His favors on them that draw nigh unto Him with a single mind.

2Portanto, não sejamos de ânimo dobre, nem deixe a nossa alma entregar-se a ociosos humores a respeito dos Seus excelsos e gloriosos dons.

2Therefore let us not be double-minded, neither let our soul indulge in idle humors respecting His exceeding and glorious gifts.

3Esteja longe de nós esta Escritura, onde diz: Miseráveis os de ânimo dobre, que duvidam na sua alma e dizem: Estas coisas ouvimos nos dias dos nossos pais também, e eis que envelhecemos, e nenhuma destas coisas nos aconteceu.

3Let this scripture be far from us where He saith Wretched are the double-minded, Which doubt in their soul and say, These things we did hear in the days of our fathers also, and behold we have grown old, and none of these things hath befallen us.

4Insensatos, comparai-vos a uma árvore; tomai uma videira. Primeiro deita as suas folhas, depois vem um broto, depois uma folha, depois uma flor, e depois destas uma uva azeda, depois uma uva plenamente madura. Vedes que em pouco tempo o fruto da árvore chega ao ponto de maturação.

4Ye fools, compare yourselves unto a tree; take a vine. First it sheddeth its leaves, then a shoot cometh, then a leaf, then a flower, and after these a sour berry, then a full ripe grape. Ye see that in a little time the fruit of the tree attaineth unto mellowness.

5Na verdade, rápida e subitamente se cumprirá a Sua vontade, dando também testemunho disso a Escritura, que diz: Ele virá depressa e não tardará; e o Senhor virá subitamente ao Seu templo, o Santo, a quem esperais.

5Of a truth quickly and suddenly shall His will be accomplished, the scripture also bearing witness to it, saying He shall come quickly and shall not tarry; and the Lord shall come suddenly into His temple, even the Holy One, whom ye expect.
