1 Clemente 45

1Sede contenciosos, irmãos, e zelosos, nas coisas que pertencem à salvação.

1Be ye contentious, brethren, and jealous about the things that pertain unto salvation.

2Examinastes as Escrituras, que são verdadeiras, que foram dadas pelo Espírito Santo;

2Ye have searched the scriptures, which are true, which were given through the Holy Ghost;

3e sabeis que nada injusto ou falso está escrito nelas. Não achareis que pessoas justas tenham sido expulsas por homens santos.

3and ye know that nothing unrighteous or counterfeit is written in them. Ye will not find that righteous persons have been thrust out by holy men.

4Homens justos foram perseguidos, mas foi pelos iníquos; foram encarcerados, mas foi pelos ímpios. Foram apedrejados por transgressores: foram mortos por aqueles que tinham concebido um detestável e injusto ciúme.

4Righteous men were persecuted, but it was by the lawless; they were imprisoned, but it was by the unholy. They were stoned by transgressors: they were slain by those who had conceived a detestable and unrighteous jealousy.

5Sofrendo estas coisas, suportaram nobremente.

5Suffering these things, they endured nobly.

6Pois que diremos, irmãos? Foi Daniel lançado na cova dos leões pelos que temiam a Deus?

6For what must we say, brethren? Was Daniel cast into the lions' den by them that feared God?

7Ou foram Ananias e Azarias e Misael encerrados na fornalha de fogo pelos que professavam o excelente e glorioso culto do Altíssimo? Longe de nós tal pensamento. Quem, então, foram os que fizeram estas coisas? Homens abomináveis e cheios de toda maldade foram agitados a tal ponto de ira que trouxeram cruel sofrimento sobre os que serviam a Deus com propósito santo e irrepreensível, não sabendo que o Altíssimo é o defensor e protetor dos que com pura consciência servem ao Seu excelente Nome: a quem seja a glória para todo o sempre. Amém.

7Or were Ananias and Azarias and Misael shut up in the furnace of fire by them that professed the excellent and glorious worship of the Most High? Far be this from our thoughts. Who then were they that did these things? Abominable men and full of all wickedness were stirred up to such a pitch of wrath, as to bring cruel suffering upon them that served God in a holy and blameless purpose, not knowing that the Most High is the champion and protector of them that in a pure conscience serve His excellent Name: unto whom be the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

8Mas os que suportaram pacientemente, com confiança, herdaram glória e honra; foram exaltados, e tiveram os seus nomes registrados por Deus no seu memorial para todo o sempre. Amém.

8But they that endured patiently in confidence inherited glory and honor; they were exalted, and had their names recorded by God in their memorial for ever and ever. Amen.
