1 Clemente 8

1Os ministros da graça de Deus, pelo Espírito Santo, falaram acerca do arrependimento.

1The ministers of the grace of God through the Holy Spirit spake concerning repentance.

2Sim, e o próprio Mestre do universo falou acerca do arrependimento com juramento:

2Yea and the Master of the universe Himself spake concerning repentance with an oath:

3pois, como eu vivo, diz o Senhor, não desejo a morte do pecador, tanto quanto o seu arrependimento, e acrescentou também um juízo misericordioso: Arrependei-vos, ó casa de Israel, da vossa iniquidade; dizei aos filhos do Meu povo: Ainda que os vossos pecados cheguem da terra até o céu, e ainda que sejam mais vermelhos do que o escarlate e mais negros do que o saco, e vos volteis para Mim de todo o coração e digais Pai, dar-vos-ei ouvidos como a um povo santo.

3for, as I live saith the Lord, I desire not the death of the sinner, so much as his repentance, and He added also a merciful judgment: Repent ye, O house of Israel, of your iniquity; say unto the sons of My people, Though your sins reach from the earth even unto the heaven, and though they be redder than scarlet and blacker than sackcloth, and ye turn unto Me with your whole heart and say Father, I will give ear unto you as unto a holy people.

4E em outro lugar diz deste modo: Lavai-vos, sede limpos. Tirai as vossas iniquidades das vossas almas diante de Mim. Cessai das vossas iniquidades; aprendei a fazer o bem; buscai o juízo; defendei o injustiçado: fazei justiça ao órfão, e praticai a justiça para com a viúva; e vinde, e raciocinemos juntos, diz Ele; e ainda que os vossos pecados sejam como o carmesim, Eu os farei brancos como a neve; e ainda que sejam como o escarlate, Eu os farei brancos como a lã. E, se quiserdes e Me ouvirdes, comereis o melhor da terra; mas, se não quiserdes, nem Me ouvirdes, a espada vos devorará; pois a boca do Senhor falou estas coisas.

4And in another place He saith on this wise, Wash, be ye clean. Put away your iniquities from your souls out of My sight. Cease from your iniquities; learn to do good; seek out judgment; defend him that is wronged: give judgment for the orphan, and execute righteousness for the widow; and come and let us reason together, saith He; and though your sins be as crimson, I will make them white as snow; and though they be as scarlet, I will make them white as wool. And if ye be willing and will hearken unto Me, ye shall eat the good things of the earth; but if ye be not willing, neither hearken unto Me, a sword shall devour you; for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken these things.

5Vendo, pois, que deseja que todos os Seus amados participem do arrependimento, confirmou-o por um ato da Sua vontade todo-poderosa.

5Seeing then that He desireth all His beloved to be partakers of repentance, He confirmed it by an act of His almighty will.
