1E os nomes do sol são os seguintes: o primeiro Orjares, e o segundo Tomas.

1And the names of the sun are the following: the first Orjârês, and the second Tômâs.

2E a lua tem quatro nomes: o primeiro nome é Asonja, o segundo Ebla, o terceiro Benase, e o quarto Erae.

2And the moon has four names: the first name is Asônjâ, the second Eblâ, the third Benâsê, and the fourth Erâe.

3Estes são os dois grandes luzeiros; a sua circunferência é como a circunferência do céu, e o tamanho da circunferência de ambos é igual.

3These are the two great luminaries: their circumference is like the circumference of the heaven, and the size of the circumference of both is alike.

4Na circunferência do sol há sete porções de luz que lhe são acrescentadas mais do que à lua, e em medidas definidas ela é transferida, até que se esgote a sétima porção do sol.

4In the circumference of the sun there are seven portions of light which are added to it more than to the moon, and in definite measures it is transferred till the seventh portion of the sun is exhausted.

5E eles se põem e entram nos portais do ocidente, e fazem a sua revolução pelo norte, e saem pelos portais orientais, na face do céu.

5And they set and enter the portals of the west, and make their revolution by the north, and come forth through the eastern portals on the face of the heaven.

6E, quando a lua nasce, uma décima quarta parte aparece no céu; a luz se torna cheia nela; no décimo quarto dia ela completa a sua luz.

6And when the moon rises one-fourteenth part appears in the heaven: the light becomes full in her: on the fourteenth day she accomplishes her light.

7E quinze partes de luz lhe são transferidas até o décimo quinto dia, quando a sua luz se completa, segundo o sinal do ano, e ela passa a quinze partes; e a lua cresce pelo acréscimo de décimas quartas partes.

7And fifteen parts of light are transferred to her till the fifteenth day when her light is accomplished, according to the sign of the year, and she becomes fifteen parts, and the moon grows by the addition of fourteenth parts.

8E, no seu minguar, a lua diminui no primeiro dia para catorze partes da sua luz, no segundo para treze partes de luz, no terceiro para doze, no quarto para onze, no quinto para dez, no sexto para nove, no sétimo para oito, no oitavo para sete, no nono para seis, no décimo para cinco, no décimo primeiro para quatro, no décimo segundo para três, no décimo terceiro para duas, no décimo quarto para a metade de uma sétima; e toda a sua luz restante desaparece inteiramente no décimo quinto.

8And in her waning the moon decreases on the first day to fourteen parts of her light, on the second to thirteen parts of light, on the third to twelve, on the fourth to eleven, on the fifth to ten, on the sixth to nine, on the seventh to eight, on the eighth to seven, on the ninth to six, on the tenth to five, on the eleventh to four, on the twelfth to three, on the thirteenth to two, on the fourteenth to the half of a seventh, and all her remaining light disappears wholly on the fifteenth.

9E em certos meses o mês tem vinte e nove dias, e uma vez vinte e oito.

9And in certain months the month has twenty-nine days and once twenty-eight.

10E Uriel me mostrou outra lei: quando a luz é transferida à lua, e de que lado lhe é transferida pelo sol.

10And Uriel showed me another law: when light is transferred to the moon, and on which side it is transferred to her by the sun.

11Durante todo o período em que a lua está crescendo na sua luz, ela a está transferindo para si, quando está oposta ao sol, durante catorze dias; a sua luz se completa no céu, e, quando ela está iluminada por inteiro, a sua luz se completa cheia no céu.

11During all the period during which the moon is growing in her light, she is transferring it to herself when opposite to the sun during fourteen days her light is accomplished in the heaven, and when she is illumined throughout, her light is accomplished full in the heaven.

12E no primeiro dia ela é chamada lua nova, porque naquele dia a luz se levanta sobre ela.

12And on the first day she is called the new moon, for on that day the light rises upon her.

13Ela se torna lua cheia exatamente no dia em que o sol se põe no ocidente, e do oriente ela nasce de noite, e a lua brilha toda a noite, até que o sol nasce defronte dela, e a lua é vista defronte do sol.

13She becomes full moon exactly on the day when the sun sets in the west, and from the east she rises at night, and the moon shines the whole night through till the sun rises over against her and the moon is seen over against the sun.

14Do lado de onde sai a luz da lua, dali de novo ela míngua, até que toda a luz desaparece e todos os dias do mês chegam ao fim, e a sua circunferência fica vazia, desprovida de luz.

14On the side whence the light of the moon comes forth, there again she wanes till all the light vanishes and all the days of the month are at an end, and her circumference is empty, void of light.

15E três meses ela faz de trinta dias, e no seu tempo faz três meses de vinte e nove dias cada um, nos quais completa o seu minguar no primeiro período de tempo, e no primeiro portal, por cento e setenta e sete dias.

15And three months she makes of thirty days, and at her time she makes three months of twenty-nine days each, in which she accomplishes her waning in the first period of time, and in the first portal for one hundred and seventy-seven days.

16E no tempo da sua saída ela aparece por três meses de trinta dias cada um, e por três meses aparece de vinte e nove cada um.

16And in the time of her going out she appears for three months of thirty days each, and for three months she appears of twenty-nine each.

17De noite ela aparece como um homem, por vinte dias de cada vez, e de dia aparece como o céu, e não há nela nada além da sua luz.

17At night she appears like a man for twenty days each time, and by day she appears like the heaven, and there is nothing else in her save her light.
