1 Samuel 31

1Então os filisteus lutaram com Israel, e os de Israel fugiram diante dos filisteus, e caíram mortos no monte de Gilboa.

1Now the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

2E seguindo os filisteus a Saul e a seus filhos, mataram a Jônatas, e a Abinadabe, e a Malquisua, filhos de Saul.

2And the Philistines followed hard upon Saul and upon his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchishua, Saul's sons.

3E agravou-se a batalha sobre Saul, e lhe alcançaram os flecheiros; e teve grande temor dos flecheiros.

3And the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers hit him; and he was sore wounded of the archers.

4Então disse Saul a seu escudeiro: Tira tua espada, e passa-me com ela, porque não venham estes incircuncisos, e me passem, e me escarneçam. Mas seu escudeiro não queria, porque tinha grande temor. Então Saul tomou a espada, e lançou-se sobre ela.

4Then said Saul unto his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and thrust me through, and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

5E vendo seu escudeiro a Saul morto, ele também se lançou sobre sua espada, e morreu com ele.

5And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise upon his sword, and died with him.

6Assim morreu Saul naquele dia, juntamente com seus três filhos, e seu escudeiro, e todos os seus homens.

6So Saul died, and his three sons, and his armourbearer, and all his men, that same day together.

7E os de Israel que eram da outra parte do vale, e da outra parte do Jordão, vendo que Israel havia fugido, e que Saul e seus filhos eram mortos, deixaram as cidades e fugiram; e os filisteus vieram e habitaram nelas.

7And when the men of Israel that were on the other side of the valley, and they that were on the other side Jordan, saw that the men of Israel fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook the cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

8E aconteceu o dia seguinte, que vindo os filisteus a despojar os mortos, acharam a Saul e a seus três filhos estendidos no monte de Gilboa;

8And it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

9E cortaram-lhe a cabeça, e tiraram-lhe as armas; e enviaram ao redor da terra dos filisteus, para que o noticiassem no templo de seus ídolos, e pelo povo.

9And they cut off his head, and stripped off his armour, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to publish it in the house of their idols, and among the people.

10E puseram suas armas no templo de Astarote, e colocaram seu corpo no muro de Bete-Seã.

10And they put his armour in the house of Ashtaroth: and they fastened his body to the wall of Bethshan.

11Mas ouvindo os de Jabes de Gileade isto que os filisteus fizeram a Saul,

11And when the inhabitants of Jabeshgilead heard of that which the Philistines had done to Saul;

12Todos os homens valentes se levantaram, e andaram toda aquela noite, e tiraram o corpo de Saul e os corpos de seus filhos do muro de Bete-Seã; e vindo a Jabes, queimaram-nos ali.

12All the valiant men arose, and went all night, and took the body of Saul and the bodies of his sons from the wall of Bethshan, and came to Jabesh, and burnt them there.

13E tomando seus ossos, sepultaram-nos debaixo de uma árvore em Jabes, e jejuaram durante sete dias.

13And they took their bones, and buried them under a tree at Jabesh, and fasted seven days.
