2 Clemente 10

1Portanto, meus irmãos, façamos a vontade do Pai que nos chamou, para que vivamos; e sigamos antes a virtude, abandonando o vício como precursor de nossos pecados, e fujamos da impiedade, para que males não nos alcancem.

1Wherefore, my brethren, let us do the will of the Father which called us, that we may live; and let us the rather pursue virtue, but forsake vice as the forerunner of our sins, and let us flee from ungodliness, lest evils overtake us.

2Porque se formos zelosos no praticar o bem, a paz nos seguirá.

2For if we be diligent in doing good, peace will pursue us.

3Por esta causa o homem não consegue alcançar a felicidade, visto que acolhem os temores dos homens, preferindo antes o gozo transitório de agora do que a promessa vindoura.

3For this cause is a man unable to attain happiness, seeing that they call in the fears of men, preferring rather the enjoyment which is here than the promise which is to come.

4Pois não sabem quão grande tormento traz o gozo presente, e que deleite traz a promessa vindoura.

4For they know not how great torment the enjoyment which is here bringeth, and what delight the promise which is to come bringeth.

5E se na verdade fizessem estas coisas tão-somente por si sós, ainda seria tolerável; mas agora persistem em ensinar o mal a almas inocentes, não sabendo que terão a sua condenação dobrada, tanto eles próprios quanto os que lhes dão ouvidos.

5And if verily they were doing these things by themselves alone, it had been tolerable: but now they continue teaching evil to innocent souls, not knowing that they shall have their condemnation doubled, both themselves and their hearers.
