2 Clemente 13

1Portanto, irmãos, arrependamo-nos imediatamente. Sejamos sóbrios para o que é bom, pois estamos cheios de muita insensatez e malícia. Apaguemos de nós os nossos pecados anteriores e não sejamos achados como agradadores de homens. Nem desejemos agradar somente uns aos outros, mas também aos homens de fora, por meio da nossa justiça, para que o Nome não seja blasfemado por nossa causa.

1Therefore, brethren, let us repent forthwith. Let us be sober unto that which is good: for we are full of much folly and wickedness. Let us wipe away from us our former sins, and let us not be found to be men pleasers. Neither let us desire to please one another only, but also those men that are without, by our righteousness, that the Name be not blasphemed by reason of us.

2Pois o Senhor diz: De todas as maneiras o Meu Nome é blasfemado entre todos os gentios; e novamente: Ai daquele por cuja causa o Meu Nome é blasfemado. Em que é ele blasfemado? No fato de não praticardes as coisas que desejo.

2For the Lord saith, Every way My Name is blasphemed among all the Gentiles; and again, Woe unto him by reason of whom My Name is blasphemed. Wherein is it blasphemed? In that ye do not the things which I desire.

3Pois os gentios, quando ouvem da nossa boca os oráculos de Deus, maravilham-se deles por sua beleza e grandeza; todavia, ao descobrirem que as nossas obras não são condizentes com as palavras que proferimos, voltam-se imediatamente para a blasfêmia, dizendo que tudo não passa de uma fábula vã e de um engano.

3For the Gentiles, when they hear from our mouths the oracles of God, marvel at them for their beauty and greatness; then, when they discover that our works are not worthy of the words which we speak, forthwith they betake themselves to blasphemy, saying that it is an idle story and a delusion.

4Pois quando ouvem de nós que Deus diz: Não tendes mérito algum se amardes os que vos amam, mas mérito tendes se amardes os vossos inimigos e os que vos odeiam; quando ouvem tais coisas, digo eu, maravilham-se da sua excelsa bondade; mas quando veem que não somente não amamos os que nos odeiam, mas nem sequer amamos os que nos amam, escarnecem de nós, e o Nome é blasfemado.

4For when they hear from us that God saith, It is no thank unto you, if ye love them that love you, but this is thank unto you, if ye love your enemies and them that hate you; when they hear these things, I say, they marvel at their exceeding goodness; but when they see that we not only do not love them that hate us, but do not even love them that love us, they laugh us to scorn, and the Name is blasphemed.
