2 Clemente 17

1Arrependamo-nos, portanto, de todo o nosso coração, para que nenhum de nós pereça pelo caminho. Pois se recebemos mandamentos de que façamos disto a nossa ocupação, a saber, arrancar os homens dos ídolos e instruí-los, quanto mais é inadmissível que venha a perecer uma alma que já conhece a Deus!

1Let us therefore repent with our whole heart, lest any of us perish by the way. For if we have received commands, that we should make this our business, to tear men away from idols and to instruct them, how much more is it wrong that a soul which knoweth God already should perish!

2Portanto, ajudemo-nos uns aos outros, para que também conduzamos os fracos para o alto, no tocante ao bem, a fim de que todos sejamos salvos; e convertamo-nos e admoestemo-nos mutuamente.

2Therefore let us assist one another, that we may also lead the weak upward as touching that which is good, to the end that we all may be saved: and let us convert and admonish one another.

3E não cuidemos em prestar atenção e crer somente agora, enquanto temos os presbíteros a nos admoestar; mas também, quando tivermos regressado aos nossos lares, lembremo-nos dos mandamentos do Senhor, e não nos deixemos arrastar em sentido contrário por nossas paixões mundanas; mas, vindo com mais frequência a este lugar, esforcemo-nos por progredir nos mandamentos do Senhor, para que todos nós, tendo o mesmo sentimento, sejamos congregados para a vida.

3And let us not think to give heed and believe now only, while we are admonished by the presbyters, but also when we have departed home, let us remember the commandments of the Lord, and not suffer ourselves to be dragged off the other way by our worldly lusts; but coming hither more frequently, let us strive to go forward in the commandments of the Lord, that we all having the same mind may be gathered together unto life.

4Pois disse o Senhor: Venho para congregar todas as nações, tribos e línguas. Com isto fala Ele do dia da Sua manifestação, quando virá e nos resgatará, a cada homem segundo as suas obras.

4For the Lord said, I come to gather together all the nations, tribes, and languages. Herein He speaketh of the day of His appearing, when He shall come and redeem us, each man according to his works.

5E os incrédulos verão a Sua glória e o Seu poder, e ficarão atônitos ao verem o reino do mundo entregue a Jesus, dizendo: Ai de nós, porque Tu eras, e nós não o sabíamos, nem críamos; e não obedecíamos aos presbíteros quando nos anunciavam a nossa salvação. E o seu bicho não morrerá, e o seu fogo não se apagará; e serão um espetáculo para toda a carne.

5And the unbelievers shall see His glory and His might: and they shall be amazed when they see the kingdom of the world given to Jesus, saying, Woe unto us, for Thou wast, and we knew it not, and believed not; and we obeyed not the presbyters when they told us of our salvation. And Their worm shall not die, and their fire shall not be quenched, and they shall be for a spectacle unto all flesh.

6Ele fala daquele dia do juízo, quando os homens virem aqueles dentre nós que viveram impiamente e violaram os mandamentos de Jesus Cristo.

6He speaketh of that day of judgment, when men shall see those among us that live ungodly lives and dealt falsely with the commandments of Jesus Christ.

7Mas os justos, tendo praticado o bem, suportado tormentos e aborrecido os deleites da alma, quando virem os que erraram o alvo e negaram a Jesus por suas palavras ou por suas obras, como são punidos com atrozes tormentos em fogo inextinguível, darão glória a Deus, dizendo: Haverá esperança para aquele que serviu a Deus de todo o seu coração.

7But the righteous, having done good and endured torments and hated the pleasures of the soul, when they shall behold them that have done amiss and denied Jesus by their words or by their deeds, how that they are punished with grievous torments in unquenchable fire, shall give glory to God, saying, There will be hope for him that hath served God with his whole heart.
