4 Baruque 1

1Aconteceu que, quando os filhos de Israel foram levados cativos pelo rei dos caldeus, Deus falou a Jeremias: Jeremias, meu escolhido, levanta-te, sai desta cidade, tu e Baruque; porque eu a destruirei por causa da multidão dos pecados dos que nela habitam.

1It came to pass, when the children of Israel were taken captive by the king of the Chaldeans, that God spake unto Jeremiah: Jeremiah, my chosen one, arise, go forth out of this city, thou and Baruch; for I will destroy it because of the multitude of the sins of them that dwell therein.

2Pois as vossas orações estão no meio dela como uma coluna firme, e como um muro de diamante ao redor dela.

2For your prayers are in the midst of it as a firm pillar, and as a wall of adamant round about it.

3Agora, pois, levanta-te e sai, antes que o exército dos caldeus a cerque.

3Now therefore arise and go forth, before the host of the Chaldeans compass it about.

4E Jeremias respondeu, dizendo: Suplico-te, ó Senhor, permite que eu, teu servo, fale diante de ti. E o Senhor lhe disse: Fala, meu escolhido Jeremias.

4And Jeremiah answered, saying: I beseech thee, O Lord, suffer me thy servant to speak before thee. And the Lord said unto him: Speak, my chosen Jeremiah.

5E Jeremias falou, dizendo: Ó Senhor Todo-Poderoso, entregas tu a cidade escolhida nas mãos dos caldeus, para que o rei se glorie com a multidão do seu povo e diga: Prevaleci contra a cidade santa de Deus?

5And Jeremiah spake, saying: O Lord Almighty, thou deliverest the chosen city into the hands of the Chaldeans, that the king may boast with the multitude of his people, and say: I have prevailed against the holy city of God?

6Não, Senhor meu; mas, se for da tua vontade, faze que ela desapareça das tuas mãos.

6Nay, my Lord; but if it be thy will, let it be made to vanish out of thy hands.

7E o Senhor disse a Jeremias: Visto que és o meu escolhido, levanta-te e sai desta cidade, tu e Baruque; porque eu a destruirei por causa da multidão dos pecados dos que nela habitam.

7And the Lord said unto Jeremiah: Since thou art my chosen one, arise and go forth out of this city, thou and Baruch; for I will destroy it because of the multitude of the sins of them that dwell therein.

8Pois nem o rei nem o seu exército poderão entrar nela, a menos que eu primeiro lhe abra as portas.

8For neither the king nor his host shall be able to enter into it, unless I first open the gates thereof.

9Levanta-te, pois, e vai a Baruque, e anuncia-lhe estas palavras.

9Arise therefore, and go unto Baruch, and declare unto him these words.

10E, tendo-vos levantado à sexta hora da noite, subi aos muros da cidade, e eu vos mostrarei que, se eu primeiro não destruir a cidade, eles não podem entrar nela.

10And having risen up at the sixth hour of the night, come ye upon the walls of the city, and I will show you that, unless I first destroy the city, they cannot enter into it.

11E, tendo o Senhor dito estas coisas, retirou-se de Jeremias.

11And when the Lord had said these things, he departed from Jeremiah.
