4 Baruque 9

1Mas os de Jeremias permaneceram, regozijando-se e oferecendo sacrifício pelo povo durante nove dias.

1But they of Jeremiah abode, rejoicing and offering sacrifice for the people nine days.

2E no décimo dia Jeremias ofereceu sacrifício sozinho, e fez uma oração, dizendo:

2And on the tenth day Jeremiah offered sacrifice alone, and prayed a prayer, saying:

3Santo, santo, santo; o incenso das árvores vivas, a luz verdadeira que me ilumina, até que eu seja levado a ti, a respeito da voz suave dos dois Serafins.

3Holy, holy, holy; the incense of the living trees, the true light that enlighteneth me, until I be taken up unto thee, concerning the sweet voice of the two Seraphim.

4Rogo-te por outra fragrância de incenso;

4I entreat thee for another fragrance of incense;

5e a minha meditação é Miguel, o arcanjo da justiça, até que ele introduza os justos.

5and my meditation is Michael, the archangel of righteousness, until he bring in the righteous.

6Rogo-te, ó Senhor Todo-Poderoso de toda a criação, o ingênito e incompreensível, em quem todo o juízo jaz oculto antes que estas coisas viessem a ser.

6I entreat thee, O Lord Almighty of all creation, the unbegotten and incomprehensible, in whom all judgment lieth hidden before these things came to be.

7Enquanto Jeremias dizia estas coisas, estando junto ao altar com Baruque e Abimeleque, tornou-se como um dos que entregam a alma.

7While Jeremiah was saying these things, and standing at the altar with Baruch and Abimelech, he became as one of them that give up their soul.

8E Baruque e Abimeleque ficaram chorando e clamando em alta voz: Nosso pai Jeremias nos deixou, o sacerdote de Deus, e partiu.

8And Baruch and Abimelech abode weeping, and crying with a loud voice: Our father Jeremiah hath left us, the priest of God, and is departed.

9E todo o povo ouviu o seu choro, e todos correram a eles, e viram Jeremias deitado por terra, morto; e rasgaram as suas vestes, e puseram pó sobre a cabeça, e choraram com amargo choro.

9And all the people heard their weeping, and they all ran unto them, and saw Jeremiah lying on the ground dead; and they rent their garments, and put dust upon their heads, and wept with bitter weeping.

10E depois destas coisas prepararam-se para sepultá-lo.

10And after these things they made ready to bury him.

11E eis que veio uma voz, dizendo: Não sepulteis aquele que ainda vive; pois a sua alma está entrando de novo no seu corpo.

11And behold, a voice came, saying: Bury not him who is yet living; for his soul is entering again into his body.

12E, ouvindo a voz, não o sepultaram, mas permaneceram ao redor do seu tabernáculo três dias, dizendo e perplexos sobre a que hora ele havia de se levantar.

12And hearing the voice, they buried him not, but abode round about his tabernacle three days, saying and being perplexed at what hour he was to arise.

13E depois de três dias a sua alma entrou no seu corpo; e ele levantou a voz no meio de todos eles, e disse: Glorificai a Deus, todos vós glorificai a Deus, e ao Filho de Deus que nos desperta, Jesus Cristo, a luz de todas as eras, a lâmpada inextinguível, a vida da fé.

13And after three days his soul entered into his body; and he lifted up his voice in the midst of them all, and said: Glorify God, all of you glorify God, and the Son of God who awaketh us, Jesus Christ, the light of all the ages, the unquenchable lamp, the life of faith.

14E acontece, depois destes tempos, mais quatrocentos e setenta e sete anos, e ele vem à terra; e a árvore da vida que foi plantada no meio do paraíso fará todas as árvores infrutíferas darem fruto, e elas crescerão, e lançarão renovos, e o seu fruto permanecerá com os anjos.

14And there cometh to pass, after these times, other four hundred and seventy-seven years, and he cometh upon the earth; and the tree of life that was planted in the midst of paradise shall make all the fruitless trees to bear fruit, and they shall grow, and shall put forth shoots, and their fruit shall abide with the angels.

15E aos que lançaram renovos, e se gloriam muito, e dizem: Demos o nosso fim ao ar, ele os fará murchar, com a altura dos seus ramos, e os fará inclinar-se; a árvore que foi firmada; e fará que o escarlate se torne como lã branca.

15And them that have put forth shoots, and boast greatly, and say: We have given our end to the air, he shall make to wither, with the height of their boughs, and shall make them to be bowed down; the tree that was made firm; and he shall make the scarlet to become as white wool.

16A neve tornar-se-á negra; as águas doces tornar-se-ão salgadas, na grande luz da alegria de Deus.

16The snow shall become black; the sweet waters shall become salt, in the great light of the gladness of God.

17E abençoará as ilhas, para que deem fruto, pela palavra da boca do seu Cristo.

17And he shall bless the islands, that they bear fruit, by the word of the mouth of his Christ.

18Pois ele mesmo virá, e sairá, e escolherá para si doze apóstolos, para que preguem as boas-novas entre as nações. A ele eu vi, adornado por seu Pai, e vindo ao mundo sobre o monte das Oliveiras; e ele saciará as almas famintas.

18For he himself shall come, and shall go forth, and shall choose for himself twelve apostles, that they may preach the glad tidings among the nations. Him have I seen, adorned by his Father, and coming into the world upon the mount of olives; and he shall fill the hungering souls.

19Enquanto Jeremias falava estas coisas a respeito do Filho de Deus, que vem ao mundo, o povo se irou e disse:

19While Jeremiah spake these things concerning the Son of God, that he cometh into the world, the people were angered, and said:

20Estas são de novo as palavras que foram ditas por Isaías, filho de Amoz, que disse: Vi a Deus e o Filho de Deus.

20These again are the words that were spoken by Isaiah the son of Amos, who said: I saw God, and the Son of God.

21Vinde, pois, e não o matemos com a morte de um homem qualquer, mas apedrejemo-lo com pedras.

21Come therefore, and let us not slay him with that man's death, but let us stone him with stones.

22Baruque e Abimeleque entristeceram-se muito com esta loucura, e porque desejavam ouvir por inteiro os mistérios que ele tinha visto.

22Baruch and Abimelech were sore grieved at this folly, and because they wished to hear in full the mysteries which he had seen.

23E Jeremias lhes diz: Calai-vos e não choreis; pois não me matarão até que eu vos tenha relatado tudo o que vi.

23And Jeremiah saith unto them: Be silent, and weep not; for they shall not slay me until I have related unto you all that I saw.

24E lhes disse: Trazei-me uma pedra.

24And he said unto them: Bring me a stone.

25E ele a pôs de pé, e disse: Luz das eras, faze que esta pedra se torne à minha semelhança.

25And he set it up, and said: Light of the ages, make this stone to become in my likeness.

26E a pedra tomou a semelhança de Jeremias.

26And the stone took the likeness of Jeremiah.

27E apedrejaram a pedra, supondo que era Jeremias.

27And they stoned the stone, supposing that it was Jeremiah.

28E Jeremias entregou todos os mistérios que tinha visto a Baruque e a Abimeleque.

28And Jeremiah delivered all the mysteries which he had seen to Baruch and to Abimelech.

29E depois disso postou-se no meio do povo, desejando cumprir a sua dispensação.

29And thereafter he stood in the midst of the people, desiring to accomplish his dispensation.

30E a pedra clamou, dizendo: Ó filhos insensatos de Israel, por que me apedrejais, supondo que sou Jeremias? Eis que Jeremias está no meio de vós.

30And the stone cried out, saying: O foolish sons of Israel, why stone ye me, supposing that I am Jeremiah? Behold, Jeremiah standeth in the midst of you.

31E, quando o viram, correram logo a ele com muitas pedras. E a sua dispensação foi cumprida.

31And when they saw him, they ran forthwith unto him with many stones. And his dispensation was fulfilled.

32E Baruque e Abimeleque vieram, e o sepultaram, e, tomando a pedra, puseram-na sobre o seu túmulo, inscrevendo assim: Esta é a pedra, a auxiliadora de Jeremias.

32And Baruch and Abimelech came, and buried him, and taking the stone they laid it upon his tomb, inscribing thus: This is the stone, the helper of Jeremiah.
