4 Esdras 14

1E sucedeu que, ao terceiro dia, eu estava sentado debaixo de um carvalho, e eis que saiu uma voz de uma sarça defronte de mim, e disse: Esdras, Esdras.

1And it came to pass upon the third day, I sat under an oak, and, behold, there came a voice out of a bush over against me, and said, Esdras, Esdras.

2E eu disse: Eis-me aqui, Senhor. E pus-me de pé.

2And I said, Here am I, Lord And I stood up upon my feet.

3Então ele me disse: Na sarça manifestamente me revelei a Moisés e falei com ele, quando o meu povo servia no Egito;

3Then said he unto me, In the bush I did manifestly reveal myself unto Moses, and talked with him, when my people served in Egypt:

4E enviei-o e tirei o meu povo do Egito, e conduzi-o ao monte, onde o detive junto a mim por longo tempo,

4And I sent him and led my people out of Egypt, and brought him up to the mount of where I held him by me a long season,

5E disse-lhe muitas coisas maravilhosas, e mostrei-lhe os segredos dos tempos e o fim; e ordenei-lhe, dizendo:

5And told him many wondrous things, and shewed him the secrets of the times, and the end; and commanded him, saying,

6Estas palavras hás de publicar, e estas hás de esconder.

6These words shalt thou declare, and these shalt thou hide.

7E agora te digo:

7And now I say unto thee,

8Que guardes no teu coração os sinais que te mostrei, e os sonhos que viste, e as interpretações que ouviste;

8That thou lay up in thy heart the signs that I have shewed, and the dreams that thou hast seen, and the interpretations which thou hast heard:

9Porque serás arrebatado de todos, e doravante ficarás com o meu Filho e com os que são semelhantes a ti, até que os tempos se acabem.

9For thou shalt be taken away from all, and from henceforth thou shalt remain with my Son, and with such as be like thee, until the times be ended.

10Pois o mundo perdeu a sua mocidade, e os tempos começam a envelhecer.

10For the world hath lost his youth, and the times begin to wax old.

11Porque o mundo está dividido em doze partes, e dez partes dele já se foram, e a metade da décima parte;

11For the world is divided into twelve parts, and the ten parts of it are gone already, and half of a tenth part:

12E resta o que fica depois da metade da décima parte.

12And there remaineth that which is after the half of the tenth part.

13Põe, pois, agora a tua casa em ordem, e admoesta o teu povo, conforta os que dentre eles estiverem em aflição e renuncia agora à corrupção;

13Now therefore set thine house in order, and reprove thy people, comfort such of them as be in trouble, and now renounce corruption,

14Deixa de ti os pensamentos mortais, lança fora os fardos do homem, despoja-te agora da fraca natureza,

14Let go from thee mortal thoughts, cast away the burdens of man, put off now the weak nature,

15E põe de lado os pensamentos que te são mais pesados, e apressa-te em fugir destes tempos.

15And set aside the thoughts that are most heavy unto thee, and haste thee to flee from these times.

16Pois ainda maiores males do que estes que viste acontecer serão feitos depois.

16For yet greater evils than those which thou hast seen happen shall be done hereafter.

17Porque olha quanto o mundo for mais fraco pela velhice, tanto mais os males se multiplicarão sobre os que nele habitam.

17For look how much the world shall be weaker through age, so much the more shall evils increase upon them that dwell therein.

18Pois a verdade fugiu para longe, e a mentira aproxima-se; pois já se apressa para vir a visão que viste.

18For the time is fled far away, and leasing is hard at hand: for now hasteth the vision to come, which thou hast seen.

19Então respondi diante de ti e disse:

19Then answered I before thee, and said,

20Eis aqui, Senhor, eu irei, como me ordenaste, e repreenderei o povo que está presente; mas os que nascerem depois, quem os admoestará? Assim o mundo jaz em trevas, e os que nele habitam estão sem luz.

20Behold, Lord, I will go, as thou hast commanded me, and reprove the people which are present: but they that shall be born afterward, who shall admonish them? thus the world is set in darkness, and they that dwell therein are without light.

21Pois a tua lei foi queimada, portanto nenhum homem sabe as coisas que por ti foram feitas, ou as obras que hão de começar.

21For thy law is burnt, therefore no man knoweth the things that are done of thee, or the work that shall begin.

22Mas se achei graça diante de ti, envia o Espírito Santo a mim, e escreverei tudo o que foi feito no mundo desde o princípio, o que estava escrito na tua lei, para que os homens possam achar o teu caminho, e os que viverem nos últimos dias possam ter vida.

22But if I have found grace before thee, send the Holy Ghost into me, and I shall write all that hath been done in the world since the beginning, which were written in thy law, that men may find thy path, and that they which will live in the latter days may live.

23E ele me respondeu, dizendo: Vai, ajunta o povo e dize-lhes que não te busquem por quarenta dias.

23And he answered me, saying, Go thy way, gather the people together, and say unto them, that they seek thee not for forty days.

24Mas prepara para ti muitas tábuas de buxo, e toma contigo a Saraia, Dábria, Selemia, Ecano e Asiel, estes cinco que estão prestes para escrever com presteza;

24But look thou prepare thee many box trees, and take with thee Sarea, Dabria, Selemia, Ecanus, and Asiel, these five which are ready to write swiftly;

25E vem para cá, e acenderei uma candeia de entendimento no teu coração, a qual não se apagará até que se cumpram as coisas que hás de começar a escrever.

25And come hither, and I shall light a candle of understanding in thine heart, which shall not be put out, till the things be performed which thou shalt begin to write.

26E quando tiveres terminado, algumas coisas publicarás abertamente, e algumas coisas mostrarás em segredo aos sábios; amanhã a esta hora começarás a escrever.

26And when thou hast done, some things shalt thou publish, and some things shalt thou shew secretly to the wise: to morrow this hour shalt thou begin to write.

27Então saí, como ele me ordenara, e ajuntei todo o povo, e disse:

27Then went I forth, as he commanded, and gathered all the people together, and said,

28Ouvi estas palavras, ó Israel.

28Hear these words, O Israel.

29Nossos pais foram no princípio estrangeiros no Egito, donde foram libertos;

29Our fathers at the beginning were strangers in Egypt, from whence they were delivered:

30E receberam a lei da vida, a qual não guardaram, e vós também a transgredistes depois deles.

30And received the law of life, which they kept not, which ye also have transgressed after them.

31Então a terra, a saber, a terra de Sião, vos foi repartida por sorte; mas vossos pais, e vós mesmos, cometestes injustiça e não guardastes os caminhos que o Altíssimo vos ordenou.

31Then was the land, even the land of Sion, parted among you by lot: but your fathers, and ye yourselves, have done unrighteousness, and have not kept the ways which the Highest commanded you.

32E porquanto ele é juiz justo, tirou-vos a seu tempo aquilo que vos havia dado.

32And forasmuch as he is a righteous judge, he took from you in time the thing that he had given you.

33E agora estais aqui, e vossos irmãos no meio de vós.

33And now are ye here, and your brethren among you.

34Portanto, se for assim que subjugardes o vosso próprio entendimento e emendardes os vossos corações, sereis preservados com vida e depois da morte alcançareis misericórdia.

34Therefore if so be that ye will subdue your own understanding, and reform your hearts, ye shall be kept alive and after death ye shall obtain mercy.

35Pois depois da morte virá o juízo, quando viveremos outra vez; e então se manifestarão os nomes dos justos e as obras dos ímpios serão declaradas.

35For after death shall the judgment come, when we shall live again: and then shall the names of the righteous be manifest, and the works of the ungodly shall be declared.

36Nenhum homem, pois, venha a mim agora, nem me busque nestes quarenta dias.

36Let no man therefore come unto me now, nor seek after me these forty days.

37Tomei, pois, os cinco homens, como ele me mandara, e fomos para o campo, e ali permanecemos.

37So I took the five men, as he commanded me, and we went into the field, and remained there.

38E sucedeu no dia seguinte que, eis que uma voz me chamou, dizendo: Esdras, abre a tua boca e bebe o que te dou a beber.

38And the next day, behold, a voice called me, saying, Esdras, open thy mouth, and drink that I give thee to drink.

39Então abri a minha boca, e eis que ele me alcançou um cálice cheio, o qual estava cheio como que de água, mas a cor dele era como fogo.

39Then opened I my mouth, and, behold, he reached me a full cup, which was full as it were with water, but the colour of it was like fire.

40E tomei-o e bebi; e tendo eu bebido dele, o meu coração proferiu entendimento, e a sabedoria cresceu no meu peito, pois o meu espírito robustecia a minha memória;

40And I took it, and drank: and when I had drunk of it, my heart uttered understanding, and wisdom grew in my breast, for my spirit strengthened my memory:

41E a minha boca se abriu, e não se fechou mais.

41And my mouth was opened, and shut no more.

42O Altíssimo deu entendimento aos cinco homens, e eles escreveram as visões admiráveis da noite que lhes foram ditas, as quais não conheciam; e assentaram-se quarenta dias, e escreviam de dia, e de noite comiam pão.

42The Highest gave understanding unto the five men, and they wrote the wonderful visions of the night that were told, which they knew not: and they sat forty days, and they wrote in the day, and at night they ate bread.

43Quanto a mim, falava de dia e não calava de noite.

43As for me. I spake in the day, and I held not my tongue by night.

44Em quarenta dias escreveram duzentos e quatro livros.

44In forty days they wrote two hundred and four books.

45E aconteceu que, cumpridos os quarenta dias, o Altíssimo falou, dizendo: O primeiro que escreveste publica abertamente, para que os dignos e indignos o leiam;

45And it came to pass, when the forty days were filled, that the Highest spake, saying, The first that thou hast written publish openly, that the worthy and unworthy may read it:

46Mas guarda os últimos setenta, para que os entregues somente aos sábios entre o povo;

46But keep the seventy last, that thou mayest deliver them only to such as be wise among the people:

47Pois neles está a fonte do entendimento, a fonte da sabedoria e a torrente do conhecimento.

47For in them is the spring of understanding, the fountain of wisdom, and the stream of knowledge.

48E assim o fiz.

48And I did so.
