4 Esdras 2

1Assim diz o Senhor: Eu tirei este povo da servidão, e dei-lhes os meus mandamentos pelos profetas, meus servos; aos quais não quiseram ouvir, mas desprezaram os meus conselhos.

1Thus saith the Lord, I brought this people out of bondage, and I gave them my commandments by menservants the prophets; whom they would not hear, but despised my counsels.

2A mãe que os gerou diz-lhes: Ide, ó filhos; porque eu sou viúva e desamparada.

2The mother that bare them saith unto them, Go your way, ye children; for I am a widow and forsaken.

3Criei-vos com alegria; mas com tristeza e pesar vos perdi, porque pecastes diante do Senhor vosso Deus e fizestes o que é mau perante ele.

3I brought you up with gladness; but with sorrow and heaviness have I lost you: for ye have sinned before the Lord your God, and done that thing that is evil before him.

4Mas agora que vos farei? Eu sou viúva e abandonada: ide, ó meus filhos, e pedi misericórdia ao Senhor.

4But what shall I now do unto you? I am a widow and forsaken: go your way, O my children, and ask mercy of the Lord.

5Quanto a mim, ó Pai, invoco-te por testemunha sobre a mãe destes filhos que não quiseram guardar o meu concerto,

5As for me, O father, I call upon thee for a witness over the mother of these children, which would not keep my covenant,

6Para que os reduzas à confusão, e a sua mãe a despojo, de sorte que não haja deles posteridade alguma.

6That thou bring them to confusion, and their mother to a spoil, that there may be no offspring of them.

7Sejam dispersos entre os gentios, sejam os seus nomes apagados da terra; porque desprezaram a minha aliança.

7Let them be scattered abroad among the heathen, let their names be put out of the earth: for they have despised my covenant.

8Ai de ti, Assur, tu que encobres em ti os injustos! Ó povo perverso, lembra-te do que fiz a Sodoma e a Gomorra;

8Woe be unto thee, Assur, thou that hidest the unrighteous in thee! O thou wicked people, remember what I did unto Sodom and Gomorrha;

9Cuja terra jaz em torrões de pez e montões de cinza: assim farei também àqueles que não me ouvirem, diz o Senhor Todo-Poderoso.

9Whose land lieth in clods of pitch and heaps of ashes: even so also will I do unto them that hear me not, saith the Almighty Lord.

10Assim diz o Senhor a Esdras: Dize ao meu povo que lhes darei o reino de Jerusalém, o qual eu haveria de dar a Israel.

10Thus saith the Lord unto Esdras, Tell my people that I will give them the kingdom of Jerusalem, which I would have given unto Israel.

11Também a sua glória tomarei para mim, e dar-lhes-ei os tabernáculos eternos que lhes havia preparado.

11Their glory also will I take unto me, and give these the everlasting tabernacles, which I had prepared for them.

12Eles terão a árvore da vida por bálsamo de suave fragrância; e não trabalharão, nem se fatigarão.

12They shall have the tree of life for an ointment of sweet savour; they shall neither labour, nor be weary.

13Ide, e recebereis; orai por poucos dias, para que sejam abreviados; o reino já vos está preparado: vigiai.

13Go, and ye shall receive: pray for few days unto you, that they may be shortened: the kingdom is already prepared for you: watch.

14Toma por testemunhas o céu e a terra; pois despedacei o mal e criei o bem; porque eu vivo, diz o Senhor.

14Take heaven and earth to witness; for I have broken the evil in pieces, and created the good: for I live, saith the Lord.

15Mãe, abraça os teus filhos e educa-os com alegria; firma os seus pés como coluna, porque te escolhi, diz o Senhor.

15Mother, embrace thy children, and bring them up with gladness, make their feet as fast as a pillar: for I have chosen thee, saith the Lord.

16E aos mortos ressuscitarei dos seus lugares e tirá-los-ei das sepulturas; porque conheci o meu nome em Israel.

16And those that be dead will I raise up again from their places, and bring them out of the graves: for I have known my name in Israel.

17Não temas, tu, ó mãe dos filhos; porque eu te escolhi, diz o Senhor.

17Fear not, thou mother of the children: for I have chosen thee, saith the Lord.

18Para teu auxílio enviarei os meus servos Isaías e Jeremias, segundo cujo conselho santifiquei e preparei para ti doze árvores carregadas de diversos frutos,

18For thy help will I send my servants Esau and Jeremy, after whose counsel I have sanctified and prepared for thee twelve trees laden with divers fruits,

19E outras tantas fontes que manam leite e mel, e sete montes magníficos, sobre os quais crescem rosas e lírios, pelos quais encherei os teus filhos de regozijo.

19And as many fountains flowing with milk and honey, and seven mighty mountains, whereupon there grow roses and lilies, whereby I will fill thy children with joy.

20Faze justiça à viúva, julga a causa do órfão, dá ao necessitado, defende o órfão, veste o nu,

20Do right to the widow, judge for the fatherless, give to the poor, defend the orphan, clothe the naked,

21Cura o ferido e o enfermo, não zombes do coxo, defende o mutilado, e chegue o cego à vista da minha claridade.

21Heal the broken and the weak, laugh not a lame man to scorn, defend the maimed, and let the blind man come into the sight of my clearness.

22Guarda os velhos e os jovens dentro dos teus muros.

22Keep the old and young within thy walls.

23Onde quer que achares os mortos, recolhe-os e sepulta-os, e dar-te-ei o primeiro lugar na minha ressurreição.

23Wheresoever thou findest the dead, take them and bury them, and I will give thee the first place in my resurrection.

24Permanece quieto, ó meu povo, e descansa, porque o teu repouso há de vir.

24Abide still, O my people, and take thy rest, for thy quietness still come.

25Acalenta os teus filhos, ó boa nutriz; firma os seus passos.

25Nourish thy children, O thou good nurse; stablish their feet.

26Quanto aos servos que te dei, nenhum deles perecerá; porque os requererei do meio do teu número.

26As for the servants whom I have given thee, there shall not one of them perish; for I will require them from among thy number.

27Não desfaleças; porque, quando vier o dia da tribulação e da angústia, outros chorarão e estarão tristes, mas tu estarás alegre e terás fartura.

27Be not weary: for when the day of trouble and heaviness cometh, others shall weep and be sorrowful, but thou shalt be merry and have abundance.

28Os gentios terão inveja de ti, mas nada poderão contra ti, diz o Senhor.

28The heathen shall envy thee, but they shall be able to do nothing against thee, saith the Lord.

29As minhas mãos te cobrirão, de modo que os teus filhos não vejam o inferno.

29My hands shall cover thee, so that thy children shall not see hell.

30Alegra-te, ó mãe, com os teus filhos; porque eu te livrarei, diz o Senhor.

30Be joyful, O thou mother, with thy children; for I will deliver thee, saith the Lord.

31Lembra-te dos teus filhos que dormem, porque eu os tirarei dos confins da terra e usarei de misericórdia para com eles; pois sou misericordioso, diz o Senhor Todo-Poderoso.

31Remember thy children that sleep, for I shall bring them out of the sides of the earth, and shew mercy unto them: for I am merciful, saith the Lord Almighty.

32Abraça os teus filhos até que eu venha e lhes mostre clemência; pois as minhas fontes transbordam e a minha graça não faltará.

32Embrace thy children until I come and shew mercy unto them: for my wells run over, and my grace shall not fail.

33Eu, Esdras, recebi mandado do Senhor no monte Horebe para que fosse a Israel; mas, quando cheguei a eles, rejeitaram-me e desprezaram o mandamento do Senhor.

33I Esdras received a charge of the Lord upon the mount Oreb, that I should go unto Israel; but when I came unto them, they set me at nought, and despised the commandment of the Lord.

34Por isso vos digo, ó gentios que ouvis e entendeis: Aguardai o vosso Pastor, ele vos dará descanso eterno; porque perto está aquele que há de vir no fim do mundo.

34And therefore I say unto you, O ye heathen, that hear and understand, look for your Shepherd, he shall give you everlasting rest; for he is nigh at hand, that shall come in the end of the world.

35Estai preparados para o galardão do reino, porque a luz perpétua resplandecerá sobre vós para sempre.

35Be ready to the reward of the kingdom, for the everlasting light shall shine upon you for evermore.

36Fugi da sombra deste mundo, recebei a alegria da vossa glória; eu dou testemunho aberto do meu Salvador.

36Flee the shadow of this world, receive the joyfulness of your glory: I testify my Saviour openly.

37Ó recebei o dom que vos é dado e alegrai-vos, dando graças àquele que vos conduziu para o reino celestial.

37O receive the gift that is given you, and be glad, giving thanks unto him that hath led you to the heavenly kingdom.

38Levantai-vos e estai em pé; contemplai o número daqueles que foram selados no banquete do Senhor;

38Arise up and stand, behold the number of those that be sealed in the feast of the Lord;

39Os quais se retiraram da sombra do mundo e receberam vestes gloriosas do Senhor.

39Which are departed from the shadow of the world, and have received glorious garments of the Lord.

40Toma o teu número, ó Sião, e encerra aqueles dentre os teus que estão vestidos de branco, os quais cumpriram a lei do Senhor.

40Take thy number, O Sion, and shut up those of thine that are clothed in white, which have fulfilled the law of the Lord.

41O número dos teus filhos, pelo qual ansiavas, está completo; roga ao poder do Senhor para que o teu povo, que foi chamado desde o princípio, seja santificado.

41The number of thy children, whom thou longedst for, is fulfilled: beseech the power of the Lord, that thy people, which have been called from the beginning, may be hallowed.

42Eu, Esdras, vi sobre o monte Sião uma grande multidão, a qual não podia contar, e todos louvavam ao Senhor com cânticos.

42I Esdras saw upon the mount Sion a great people, whom I could not number, and they all praised the Lord with songs.

43E no meio deles estava um mancebo de grande estatura, mais alto do que todos os demais, e sobre a cabeça de cada um deles punha coroas, e era mui exaltado; do que grandemente me maravilhei.

43And in the midst of them there was a young man of a high stature, taller than all the rest, and upon every one of their heads he set crowns, and was more exalted; which I marvelled at greatly.

44Então perguntei ao anjo, e disse: Senhor, quem são estes?

44So I asked the angel, and said, Sir, what are these?

45Ele respondeu e disse-me: Estes são os que despiram as vestiduras mortais e se vestiram da imortalidade, e confessaram o nome de Deus; agora são coroados e recebem palmas.

45He answered and said unto me, These be they that have put off the mortal clothing, and put on the immortal, and have confessed the name of God: now are they crowned, and receive palms.

46Disse eu então ao anjo: Quem é aquele mancebo que os coroa e lhes entrega palmas nas mãos?

46Then said I unto the angel, What young person is it that crowneth them, and giveth them palms in their hands?

47Ele respondeu e disse-me: É o Filho de Deus, a quem confessaram no mundo. Então comecei a louvar grandemente àqueles que tão firmemente se mantiveram pelo nome do Senhor.

47So he answered and said unto me, It is the Son of God, whom they have confessed in the world. Then began I greatly to commend them that stood so stiffly for the name of the Lord.

48Então o anjo me disse: Vai, e declara ao meu povo que coisas e quão grandes maravilhas do Senhor teu Deus viste.

48Then the angel said unto me, Go thy way, and tell my people what manner of things, and how great wonders of the Lord thy God, thou hast seen.
