Apocalipse de Abraão 7

1"Eis que o fogo é mais digno de honra do que todas as coisas formadas, porque até aquilo que não se sujeita fica sujeito a ele, e as coisas facilmente perecíveis são escarnecidas por suas chamas.

1"Behold, the fire is more worthy of honour than all things formed because even that which is not subjected is subjected unto it, and things easily perishable are mocked by its flames.

2Mas ainda mais digna de honra é a água, porque vence o fogo e sacia a terra.

2But even more worthy of honour is the water, because it conquereth the fire and satisfieth the earth.

3Contudo, nem mesmo a ela chamo Deus, porque está sujeita à terra sob a qual a água se inclina.

3But even it I do not call God, because it is subjected to the earth under which the water inclineth.

4Mas chamo a terra muito mais digna de honra, porque ela domina a natureza (e a plenitude) da água.

4But I call the earth much more worthy of honour, because it overpowereth the nature (and the fulness) of the water.

5Entretanto, nem mesmo a ela (isto é, a terra) chamo deus, [porque] também é ressecada pelo sol [e] entregue ao homem para ser cultivada.

5Even it (viz. the earth), however, I do not call god, [because] it, too, is dried up by the sun, [and] is apportioned to man to be tilled.

6[Chamo o sol mais digno de honra do que a terra,] porque, com seus raios, ilumina o mundo inteiro e as diferentes atmosferas.

6[I call the sun more worthy of honour than the earth,] because it with its rays illumineth the whole world and the different atmospheres.

7[Mas] nem mesmo a ele chamo deus, porque, à noite e pelas nuvens, seu curso fica encoberto."

7[But] even it I do not call god, because at night and by clouds its course is obscured."

8Tampouco chamo deus à lua ou às estrelas, porque elas também, em sua estação, obscurecem [sua] luz à noite.

8Nor, again, do I call the moon or the stars god, because they also in their season obscure [their] light at night.

9[Mas] ouve [isto], Terá, meu pai; pois "eu te darei a conhecer o Deus que fez todas as coisas, e não estes que consideramos deuses.

9[But] hear [this], Terah my father; for "I will make known to thee the God who hath made everything, not these we consider as gods.

10Quem, então, é Ele? Ou o que é Ele?

10Who then is He? or what is He?

11Quem tornou carmesins os céus e fez dourado o sol, e luminosa a lua, e com ela as estrelas; quem tornou seca a terra no meio de muitas águas e te estabeleceu em... [e me pôs à prova na confusão dos meus pensamentos] "Que Deus, porém, se revele a nós por Si mesmo!"

11Who hath crimsoned the heavens, and made the sun golden, And the moon lustrous, and with it the stars; And hath made the earth dry in the midst of many waters, And set thee in.... [and tested me in the confusion of my thoughts] "Yet may God reveal Himself to us through Himself!"
