Apocalipse de Esdras 3

1Então veio uma voz a mim: Vem aqui e morre, Esdras, meu amado; entrega aquilo que te foi confiado.

1Then there came a voice to me: Come hither and die, Esdras, my beloved; give that which hath been entrusted to thee.

2E o profeta disse: E de onde podeis fazer sair a minha alma?

2And the prophet said: And whence can you bring forth my soul?

3E os anjos disseram: Podemos fazê-la sair pela boca.

3And the angels said: We can put it forth through the mouth.

4E o profeta disse: De boca a boca falei com Deus, e ela não sai dali.

4And the prophet said: Mouth to mouth have I spoken with God, and it comes not forth thence.

5E os anjos disseram: Tiremo-la pelas tuas narinas.

5And the angels said: Let us bring it out through thy nostrils.

6E o profeta disse: As minhas narinas cheiraram o doce aroma da glória de Deus.

6And the prophet said: My nostrils have smelled the sweet savour of the glory of God.

7E os anjos disseram: Podemos fazê-la sair pelos teus olhos.

7And the angels said: We can bring it out through thine eyes.

8E o profeta disse: Os meus olhos viram as costas de Deus.

8And the prophet said: Mine eyes have seen the back parts of God.

9E os anjos disseram: Podemos fazê-la sair pelo alto da tua cabeça.

9And the angels said: We can bring it out through the crown of thy head.

10E o profeta disse: Também andei com Moisés no monte, e ela não sai dali.

10And the prophet said: I walked about with Moses also on the mountain, and it comes not forth thence.

11E os anjos disseram: Podemos fazê-la sair pelas pontas das tuas unhas.

11And the angels said: We can put it forth through the points of thy nails.

12E o profeta disse: Os meus pés também andaram sobre o altar.

12And the prophet said: My feet also have walked about on the altar.

13E os anjos foram-se sem ter feito coisa alguma, dizendo: Senhor, não conseguimos a sua alma.

13And the angels went away without having done anything, saying: Lord, we cannot get his soul.

14Então ele diz ao seu Filho unigênito: Desce, meu Filho amado, com um grande exército de anjos, e toma a alma do meu amado Esdras.

14Then He says to His only begotten Son: Go down, my beloved Son, with a great host of angels, and take the soul of my beloved Esdras.

15Pois o Senhor, tomando um grande exército de anjos, diz ao profeta: Dá-me o depósito que te confiei; a coroa foi preparada para ti.

15For the Lord, having taken a great host of angels, says to the prophet: Give me the trust which I entrusted to thee; the crown has been prepared for thee.

16E o profeta disse: Senhor, se tomares a minha alma de mim, quem ficará para pleitear contigo pela raça dos homens?

16And the prophet said: Lord, if Thou take my soul from me, who will be left to plead with Thee for the race of men?

17E Deus disse: Como és mortal e da terra, não pleiteies comigo.

17And God said: As thou art mortal, and of the earth, do not plead with me.

18E o profeta disse: Não cessarei de pleitear.

18And the prophet said: I will not cease to plead.

19E Deus disse: Entrega agora mesmo o depósito; a coroa foi preparada para ti.

19And God said: Give up just now the trust; the crown has been prepared for thee.

20Vem e morre, para que a obtenhas.

20Come and die, that thou mayst obtain it.

21Então o profeta começou a dizer com lágrimas: Ó Senhor, que bem fiz pleiteando contigo, e vou cair na terra?

21Then the prophet began to say with tears: O Lord, what good have I done pleading with Thee, and I am going to fall down into the earth?

22Ai de mim, ai de mim, que vou ser devorado pelos vermes!

22Woe's me, woe's me, that I am going to be eaten up by worms!

23Chorai, todos vós, santos e justos, por mim, que pleiteei muito e que sou entregue à morte.

23Weep, all ye saints and ye righteous, for me, who have pleaded much, and who am delivered up to death.

24Chorai por mim, todos vós, santos e justos, porque fui ao poço do Hades.

24Weep for me, all ye saints and ye righteous, because I have gone to the pit of Hades.

25E Deus disse-lhe: Ouve, Esdras, meu amado.

25And God said to him: Hear, Esdras, my beloved.

26Eu, que sou imortal, suportei uma cruz; provei vinagre e fel; fui posto num túmulo, e ressuscitei os meus escolhidos; chamei Adão para fora do Hades, para salvar a raça dos homens.

26I, who am immortal, endured a cross; I tasted vinegar and gall; I was laid in a tomb, and I raised up my chosen ones; I called Adam up out of Hades, that I might save the race of men.

27Não temas, portanto, a morte: pois aquilo que vem de mim--isto é, a alma--vai para o céu; e aquilo que vem da terra--isto é, o corpo--vai para a terra, da qual foi tirado.

27Do not therefore be afraid of death: for that which is from me--that is to say, the soul--goes to heaven; and that which is from the earth--that is to say, the body--goes to the earth, from which it was taken.

28E o profeta disse: Ai de mim! ai de mim! que empreenderei? que farei?

28And the prophet said: Woe's me! woe's me! what shall I set about? what shall I do?

29Não sei. E então o bem-aventurado Esdras começou a dizer: Ó Deus eterno, Criador de toda a criação, que mediste o céu com um palmo e seguras a terra como um punhado, que cavalgas sobre os querubins, que levaste o profeta Elias aos céus num carro de fogo, que dás alimento a toda carne, de quem todas as coisas têm pavor e tremem diante da face do teu poder,--escuta-me, que pleiteei muito, e dá a todos os que transcreverem este livro, e o tiverem, e se lembrarem do meu nome, e honrarem a minha memória, dá-lhes uma bênção do céu; e abençoa-o em todas as coisas, como abençoaste José no fim, e não te lembres da sua antiga maldade no dia do seu julgamento.

29I know not. And then the blessed Esdras began to say: O eternal God, the Maker of the whole creation, who hast measured the heaven with a span, and who holdest the earth as a handful, who ridest upon the cherubim, who didst take the prophet Elias to the heavens in a chariot of fire, who givest food to all flesh, whom all things dread and tremble at from the face of Thy power,--listen to me, who have pleaded much, and give to all who transcribe this book, and have it, and remember my name, and honour my memory, give them a blessing from heaven; and bless him in all things, as Thou didst bless Joseph at last, and remember not his former wickedness in the day of his judgment.

30E todos quantos não crerem neste livro serão queimados como Sodoma e Gomorra.

30And as many as have not believed this book shall be burnt up like Sodom and Gomorrah.

31E veio-lhe uma voz, dizendo: Esdras, meu amado, tudo quanto pediste eu darei a cada um.

31And there came to him a voice, saying: Esdras, my beloved, all things whatever thou hast asked will I give to each one.

32E imediatamente entregou a sua preciosa alma com muita honra, no mês de outubro, no dia vinte e oito.

32And immediately he gave up his precious soul with much honour, in the month of October, on the twenty-eighth.

33E prepararam-no para o sepultamento com incenso e salmos; e o seu precioso e sagrado corpo dispensa força de alma e de corpo perpetuamente aos que recorrem a ele com desejo ardente.

33And they prepared him for burial with incense and psalms; and his precious and sacred body dispenses strength of soul and body perpetually to those who have recourse to him from a longing desire.

34A quem é devida a glória, a força, a honra e a adoração,--ao Pai, e ao Filho, e ao Espírito Santo, agora e sempre, e pelos séculos dos séculos.

34To whom is due glory, strength, honour, and adoration,--to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and to ages of ages.

35Amém.
