Testamento dos 12 Patriarcas 10

1A cópia do Testamento de Aser, as coisas que ele falou a seus filhos no centésimo e vigésimo quinto ano de sua vida. Pois, enquanto ainda estava com saúde, disse-lhes: Ouvi, vós filhos de Aser, a vosso pai, e eu vos declararei tudo o que é reto aos olhos do Senhor.

1The copy of the Testament of Asher, what things he spake to his sons in the hundred and twenty-fifth year of his life. For while he was still in health, he said to them: Hearken, ye children of Asher, to your father, and I will declare to you all that is upright in the sight of the Lord.

2Dois caminhos deu Deus aos filhos dos homens, e duas inclinações, e dois tipos de ação, e dois modos (de ação), e dois desfechos. Portanto, todas as coisas são aos pares, uma contraposta à outra. Pois há dois caminhos, do bem e do mal, e com estes estão as duas inclinações em nossos peitos discernindo-os.

2Two ways hath God given to the sons of men, and two inclinations, and two kinds of action, and two modes (of action), and two issues. Therefore all things are by twos, one over against the other. For there are two ways of good and evil, and with these are the two inclinations in our breasts discriminating them.

3Portanto, se a alma se deleita na boa (inclinação), todas as suas ações são em justiça; e se pecar, logo se arrepende. Pois, tendo os seus pensamentos fixos na justiça e rejeitando a maldade, logo derruba o mal e desarraiga o pecado. Mas se ela se inclinar para a má inclinação, todas as suas ações são em maldade, e afasta o bem, e apega-se ao mal, e é governada por Beliar; ainda que pratique o que é bom, ele o perverte para o mal.

3Therefore if the soul take pleasure in the good (inclination), all its actions are in righteousness; and if it sin it straightway repenteth. For, having its thoughts set upon righteousness, and casting away wickedness, it straightway overthroweth the evil, and uprooteth the sin. But if it incline to the evil inclination, all its actions are in wickedness, and it driveth away the good, and cleaveth to the evil, and is ruled by Beliar; even though it work what is good, he perverteth it to evil.

4Pois sempre que ela começa a fazer o bem, ele força o desfecho da ação para o mal em relação a ela, visto que o tesouro da inclinação está cheio de um espírito maligno.

4For whenever it beginneth to do good, he forceth the issue of the action into evil for him, seeing that the treasure of the inclination is filled with an evil spirit.

5Uma pessoa pode, pois, com palavras ajudar o bem por causa do mal, contudo o desfecho da ação conduz ao dano. Há homem que não manifesta compaixão daquele que lhe presta serviço no mal; e esta coisa tem dois aspectos, mas o todo é mau.

5A person then may with words help the good for the sake of the evil, yet the issue of the action leadeth to mischief. There is a man who showeth no compassion upon him who serveth his turn in evil; and this thing hath two aspects, but the whole is evil.

6E há homem que ama àquele que pratica o mal, porque preferiria até morrer no mal por sua causa; e acerca disto é evidente que tem dois aspectos, mas o todo é obra má.

6And there is a man that loveth him that worketh evil, because he would prefer even to die in evil for his sake; and concerning this it is clear that it hath two aspects, but the whole is an evil work.

7Ainda que deveras tenha amor, contudo é perverso o que encobre o que é mau por causa do bom nome, mas o fim da ação tende para o mal.

7Though indeed he have love, yet is he wicked who concealeth what is evil for the sake of the good name, but the end of the action tendeth unto evil.

8Outro rouba, pratica injustiça, pilha, defrauda, e não obstante compadece-se dos pobres: isto também tem um duplo aspecto, mas o todo é mau. Aquele que defrauda o seu próximo provoca a Deus, e jura falsamente contra o Altíssimo, e contudo compadece-se dos pobres: ao Senhor que ordenou a lei ele menospreza e provoca, e todavia alivia os pobres.

8Another stealeth, doeth unjustly, plundereth, defraudeth, and withal pitieth the poor: this too hath a twofold aspect, but the whole is evil. He who defraudeth his neighbour provoketh God, and sweareth falsely against the Most High, and yet pitieth the poor: the Lord who commandeth the law he setteth at nought and provoketh, and yet he refresheth the poor.

9Contamina a alma e alegra o corpo; mata a muitos e compadece-se de poucos: isto também tem um duplo aspecto, mas o todo é mau. Outro comete adultério e fornicação, e abstém-se de carnes, e quando jejua pratica o mal, e pelo poder de sua riqueza oprime a muitos; e não obstante a sua excessiva maldade cumpre os mandamentos: isto também tem um duplo aspecto, mas o todo é mau.

9He defileth the soul, and maketh gay the body; he killeth many, and pitieth a few: this, too, hath a twofold aspect, but the whole is evil. Another committeth adultery and fornication, and abstaineth from meats, and when he fasteth he doeth evil, and by the power of his wealth overwhelmeth many; and notwithstanding his excessive wickedness he doeth the commandments: this, too, hath a twofold aspect, but the whole is evil.

10Tais homens são como as lebres; limpos, como aqueles que têm o casco fendido, mas na verdade são imundos. Pois Deus assim declarou nas tábuas dos mandamentos.

10Such men are hares; clean,- like those that divide the hoof, but in very deed are unclean. For God in the tables of the commandments hath thus declared.

11Mas não tenhais vós, meus filhos, duas faces como eles, de bondade e de maldade; mas apegai-vos unicamente à bondade, pois Deus tem nela a Sua habitação, e os homens a desejam. Mas da maldade fugi, destruindo a (má) inclinação pelas vossas boas obras; pois os que têm duas faces não servem a Deus, mas às suas próprias concupiscências, para que possam comprazer a Beliar e a homens semelhantes a si mesmos.

11But do not ye, my children, wear two faces like unto them, of goodness and of wickedness; but cleave unto goodness only, for God hath his habitation therein, and men desire it. But from wickedness flee away, destroying the (evil) inclination by your good works; for they that are double-faced serve not God, but their own lusts, so that they may please Beliar and men like unto themselves.

12Pois os homens bons, até mesmo aqueles que são de uma só face, ainda que sejam tidos pelos que têm duas faces como pecadores, são justos diante de Deus. Pois muitos, ao matarem os perversos, fazem duas obras, de bem e de mal;

12For good men, even they that are of single face, though they be thought by them that are double faced to sin, are just before God. For many in killing the wicked do two works, of good and evil;

13mas o todo é bom, porque ele desarraigou e destruiu aquilo que é mau. Um homem aborrece ao misericordioso e injusto, e ao homem que comete adultério e jejua: isto também tem um duplo aspecto, mas toda a obra é boa, porque ele segue o exemplo do Senhor, porquanto não aceita o bem aparente como o bem genuíno.

13but the whole is good, because he hath uprooted and destroyed that which is evil. One man hateth the merciful and unjust man, and the man who committeth adultery and fasteth: this, too, hath a two fold aspect, but the whole work is good, because he followeth the Lord's example, in that he accepteth not the seeming good as the genuine good.

14Outro não deseja passar um dia agradável com os que levam vida dissoluta, para não contaminar o seu corpo e macular a sua alma: isto também tem duas faces, mas o todo é bom. Pois tais homens são semelhantes aos cervos e às corças, porque à maneira de animais selvagens parecem ser imundos, mas são inteiramente limpos; porque andam em zelo pelo Senhor e se abstêm daquilo que Deus também aborrece e proíbe pelos Seus mandamentos, apartando o mal do bem.

14Another desireth not to see a good day with them that riot, lest he defile his body and pollute his soul: this, too, is double-faced, but the whole is good. For such men are like to stags and to hinds, because in the manner of wild animals they seem to be unclean, but they are altogether clean; because they walk in zeal for the Lord and abstain from what God also hateth and forbiddeth by His commandments, warding off the evil from the good.

15Vedes, meus filhos, como há dois em todas as coisas, um contra o outro, e um está oculto pelo outro: na riqueza (está oculta) a cobiça, nos banquetes a embriaguez, no riso a tristeza, no matrimônio a devassidão. A morte sucede à vida, a desonra à glória, a noite ao dia, e as trevas à luz; e todas as coisas estão sob o dia, as coisas justas sob a vida, as coisas injustas sob a morte; por isso também a vida eterna aguarda a morte.

15Ye see, my children, how that there are two in all things, one against the other, and the one is hidden by the other: in wealth (is hidden) covetousness, in conviviality drunkenness, in laughter grief, in wedlock profligacy. Death succeedeth to life, dishonour to glory, night to day, and darkness to light; and all things are under the day, just things under life, unjust things under death; wherefore also eternal life awaiteth death.

16Nem se pode dizer que a verdade seja mentira, nem que o reto seja errado; pois toda a verdade está sob a luz, assim como todas as coisas estão sob Deus. Todas estas coisas, pois, provei em minha vida, e não me desviei da verdade do Senhor, e esquadrinhei os mandamentos do Altíssimo, andando segundo todas as minhas forças com singeleza de face para com o que é bom.

16Nor may it be said that truth is a lie, nor right wrong; for all truth is under the light, even as all things are under God. All these things, therefore, I proved in my life, and I wandered not from the truth of the Lord, and I searched out the commandments of the Most High, walking according to all my strength with singleness of face unto that which is good.

17Atentai, pois, vós também, meus filhos, para os mandamentos do Senhor, seguindo a verdade com singeleza de face. Pois os que têm duas faces são culpados de duplo pecado; pois tanto praticam a coisa má como se deleitam nos que a praticam, seguindo o exemplo dos espíritos do engano, e contendendo contra o gênero humano.

17Take heed, therefore, ye also, my children, to the commandments of the Lord, following the truth with singleness of face. For they that are double-faced are guilty of a twofold sin; for they both do the evil thing and they have pleasure in them that do it, following the example of the spirits of deceit, and striving against mankind.

18Guardai, pois, vós, meus filhos, a lei do Senhor, e não deis atenção ao mal como se fora bem; mas olhai para o que é verdadeiramente bom, e guardai-o em todos os mandamentos do Senhor, tendo neles o vosso proceder e neles descansando.

18Do ye, therefore, my children, keep the law of the Lord, and give not heed unto evil as unto good; but look unto the thing that is really good, and keep it in all commandments of the Lord, having your conversation therein, and resting therein.

19Pois os fins dos homens mostram a sua justiça (ou injustiça), quando se encontram com os anjos do Senhor e de Satanás. Pois quando a alma parte perturbada, é atormentada pelo espírito maligno a quem também serviu em concupiscências e más obras.

19For the latter ends of men do show their righteousness (or unrighteousness), when they meet the angels of the Lord and of Satan. For when the soul departs troubled, it is tormented by the evil spirit which also it served in lusts and evil works.

20Mas se ela for pacífica com alegria, encontra o anjo da paz, e ele a conduz à vida eterna.

20But if he is peaceful with joy he meeteth the angel of peace, and he leadeth him into eternal life.

21Não vos torneis, meus filhos, como Sodoma, que pecou contra os anjos do Senhor e pereceu para sempre. Pois sei que haveis de pecar e sereis entregues nas mãos de vossos inimigos; e a vossa terra será assolada, e os vossos lugares santos destruídos, e sereis espalhados pelos quatro cantos da terra. E sereis reduzidos a nada na dispersão, desvanecendo-vos como a água, até que o Altíssimo visite a terra, vindo Ele mesmo como homem, com os homens comendo e bebendo, e quebrando a cabeça do dragão nas águas. Ele salvará a Israel e a todos os gentios, falando Deus na pessoa de homem. Portanto, vós também, meus filhos, dizei estas coisas aos vossos filhos, para que não O desobedeçam. Pois tenho sabido que certamente sereis desobedientes, e certamente agireis impiamente, não atentando para a lei de Deus, mas para os mandamentos dos homens, sendo corrompidos pela maldade. E por isso sereis espalhados como Gade e Dã, meus irmãos, e não conhecereis as vossas terras, tribo e língua. Mas o Senhor vos congregará em fé por Sua terna misericórdia, e por amor de Abraão, de Isaque e de Jacó.

21Become not, my children, as Sodom, which sinned against the angels of the Lord, and perished for ever. For I know that ye shall sin, and be delivered into the hands of your enemies; and your land shall be made desolate, and your holy places destroyed, and ye shall be scattered unto the four corners of the earth. And ye shall be set at nought in the dispersion vanishing away as water. Until the Most High shall visit the earth, coming Himself as man, with men eating and drinking, and breaking the head of the dragon in the water. He shall save Israel and all the Gentiles God speaking in the person of man. Therefore do ye also, my children, tell these things to your children, that they disobey Him not. For I have known that ye shall assuredly be disobedient, and assuredly act ungodly, not giving heed to the law of God, but to the commandments of men, being corrupted through wickedness. And therefore shall ye be scattered as Gad and Dan my brethren, and ye shall know not your lands, tribe, and tongue. But the Lord will gather you together in faith through His tender mercy, and for the sake of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

22E tendo-lhes dito estas coisas, ordenou-lhes, dizendo: Sepultai-me em Hebrom.

22And when he had said these things unto them he commanded them, saying: Bury me in Hebron.

23E adormeceu e morreu em boa velhice. E seus filhos fizeram conforme ele lhes havia ordenado, e levaram-no para Hebrom, e o sepultaram com seus pais.

23And he fell asleep and died at a good old age. And his sons did as he had commanded them, and they carried him up to Hebron, and buried him with his fathers.
