Testamento dos 12 Patriarcas 12

1A cópia das palavras de Benjamim, que ele ordenou a seus filhos que observassem, depois de ter vivido cento e vinte e cinco anos. E beijou-os e disse: Assim como Isaque nasceu a Abraão em sua velhice, assim também eu a Jacó.

1The copy of the words of Benjamin, which he commanded his sons to observe, after he had lived a hundred and twenty-five years. And he kissed them, and said: As Isaac was born to Abraham in his old age, so also was I to Jacob.

2E como Raquel, minha mãe, morreu ao dar-me à luz, não tive leite; por isso fui amamentado por Bila, sua serva. Pois Raquel permaneceu estéril por doze anos depois de dar à luz José; e orou ao Senhor com jejum por doze dias, e concebeu e me deu à luz.

2And since Rachel my mother died in giving me birth, I had no milk; therefore I was suckled by Bilhah her handmaid. For Rachel remained barren for twelve years after she had borne Joseph; and she prayed the Lord with fasting twelve days, and she conceived and bare me.

3Pois meu pai amava muito a Raquel e orava para que pudesse ver dois filhos nascidos dela. Por isso fui chamado Benjamim, isto é, filho dos dias.

3For my father loved Rachel dearly, and prayed that he might see two sons born from her. Therefore was I called Benjamin, that is, a son of days.

4E quando fui ao Egito, ter com José, e meu irmão me reconheceu, disse-me:

4And when I went into Egypt, to Joseph, and my brother recognized me, he said unto me:

5Que disseram a meu pai quando me venderam? E respondi-lhe: Mancharam tua túnica de sangue e a enviaram, dizendo: Reconhece se esta é a túnica de teu filho.

5What did they tell my father when they sold me? And I said unto him, They dabbled thy coat with blood and sent it, and said: Know whether this be thy son's coat.

6E José me disse: Assim foi, irmão; os mercadores cananeus me roubaram à força, e aconteceu que, enquanto seguiam seu caminho, esconderam minha veste, como se uma fera me tivesse encontrado e matado. E assim seus companheiros me venderam aos ismaelitas.

6And Joseph said unto me: Even so, brother, the Canaanite merchants stole me by force, And it came to pass that as they went on their way they concealed my garment, as though a wild beast had met me and slain me. And so his associates sold me to the Ishmaelites.

7E eles não mentiram ao dizer isso. Pois ele desejava ocultar de mim os feitos de meus irmãos. E chamou seus irmãos e disse:

7And they did not lie in saying this. For he wished to conceal from me the deeds of my brethren. And he called to him his brethren and said:

8Não conteis a meu pai o que me fizestes, mas dizei-lhe como contei a Benjamim. E sejam assim os pensamentos entre vós, e não cheguem estas coisas ao coração de meu pai.

8Do not tell my father what ye have done unto me, but tell him as I have told Benjamin. And let the thoughts among you be such, and let not these things come to the heart of my father.

9Vós também, portanto, meus filhos, amai o Senhor Deus do céu e da terra e guardai seus mandamentos, seguindo o exemplo do homem bom e santo, José.

9Do ye also, therefore, my children, love the Lord God of heaven and earth, and keep His commandments, following the example of the good and holy man Joseph.

10E seja vossa mente inclinada ao bem, como sabeis que é a minha; pois aquele cuja mente é reta vê todas as coisas retamente. Temei o Senhor e amai o vosso próximo; e ainda que os espíritos de Beliar vos reclamem para vos afligir com todo mal, não terão domínio sobre vós, assim como não tiveram sobre José, meu irmão.

10And let your mind be unto good, even as ye know me; for he that hath his mind right seeth all things rightly. Fear ye the Lord, and love your neighbour; and even though the spirits of Beliar claim you to afflict you with every evil, yet shall they not have dominion over you, even as they had not over Joseph my brother.

11Quantos homens desejaram matá-lo, e Deus o protegeu! Pois aquele que teme a Deus e ama o próximo não pode ser ferido pelo espírito de Beliar, pois o temor de Deus o protege. Tampouco pode ser dominado pelas tramas dos homens ou das feras, porque o Senhor o ajuda mediante o amor que tem pelo próximo.

11How many men wished to slay him, and God shielded him! For he that feareth God and loveth his neighbour cannot be smitten by the spirit of Beliar, being shielded by the fear of God. Nor can he be ruled over by the device of men or beasts, for he is helped by the Lord through the love which he hath towards his neighbour.

12Pois José também rogou a nosso pai que orasse por seus irmãos, para que o Senhor não lhes imputasse como pecado qualquer mal que lhe tivessem feito. E assim Jacó exclamou: Meu bom filho, venceste as entranhas de teu pai Jacó. E abraçou-o e beijou-o por duas horas, dizendo:

12For Joseph also besought our father that he would pray for his brethren, that the Lord would not impute to them as sin whatever evil they had done unto him. And thus Jacob cried out: My good child, thou hast prevailed over the bowels of thy father Jacob. And he embraced him, and kissed him for two hours, saying:

13Em ti se cumprirá a profecia do céu acerca do Cordeiro de Deus e Salvador do mundo: que um inocente será entregue por homens iníquos, e um homem sem pecado morrerá por homens ímpios no sangue da aliança, para a salvação dos gentios e de Israel, e destruirá Beliar e seus servos.

13In thee shall be fulfilled the prophecy of heaven concerning the Lamb of God, and Saviour of the world, and that a blameless one shall be delivered up for lawless men, and a sinless one shall die for ungodly men in the blood of the covenant. for the salvation of the Gentiles and of Israel, and shall destroy Beliar and his servants.

14Vede, portanto, meus filhos, o fim do homem bom? Sede, pois, seguidores de sua compaixão, com boa mente, para que também possais trazer coroas de glória. Pois o homem bom não tem olhar sombrio; pois mostra misericórdia a todos os homens, ainda que sejam pecadores. E embora tramem contra ele com má intenção, fazendo o bem ele vence o mal, protegido por Deus;

14See ye, therefore, my children, the end of the good man? Be followers of his compassion, therefore, with a good mind, that ye also may wear crowns of glory. For the good man hath not a dark eye; for he showeth mercy to all men, even though they be sinners. And though they devise with evil intent concerning him, by doing good he overcometh evil, being shielded by God:

15e ama os justos como à própria alma. Se alguém é glorificado, não o inveja; se alguém enriquece, não sente ciúme; se alguém é valente, louva-o; ao virtuoso, enaltece; do pobre tem misericórdia; do fraco, compaixão; a Deus canta louvores.

15and he loveth the righteous as his own soul. If any one is glorified, he envieth him not; if any one is enriched, he is not jealous; if any one is valiant, he praiseth him; the virtuous man he laudeth, on the poor man he hath mercy; on the weak he hath compassion; unto God he singeth praises.

16Àquele que teme a Deus, protege como com um escudo; àquele que ama a Deus, ajuda; àquele que rejeita o Altíssimo, admoesta e faz voltar; e àquele que tem a graça de um bom espírito, ama como à própria alma.

16As for him who hath the fear of God, he protecteth him as with a shield; him that loveth God he helpeth; him that rejecteth the Most High he admonisheth and turneth back; and him that hath the grace of a good spirit he loveth as his own soul.

17Se, portanto, também tiverdes boa mente, até os homens perversos estarão em paz convosco, e os dissolutos vos reverenciarão e se voltarão para o bem; e os cobiçosos não apenas cessarão seu desejo desmedido, mas até darão os objetos de sua cobiça aos aflitos.

17If, therefore, ye also have a good mind, then will both wicked men be at peace with you, and the profligate will reverence you and turn unto good; and the covetous will not only cease from their inordinate desire, but even give the objects of their covetousness to them that are afflicted.

18Se fizerdes o bem, até os espíritos impuros fugirão de vós, e as feras vos temerão. Pois onde há reverência pelas boas obras e luz na mente, até as trevas fogem dele Pois se alguém violenta um homem santo, arrepende-se; porque o homem santo é misericordioso com quem o injuria e guarda silêncio.

18If ye do well, even the unclean spirits will flee from you; and the beasts will dread you. For where there is reverence for good works and light in the mind, even darkness fleeth away from him For if any one does violence to a holy man, he repenteth; for the holy man is merciful to his reviler, and holdeth his peace.

19E se alguém trai um homem justo, o justo ora; embora seja humilhado por breve tempo, logo depois aparece muito mais glorioso, como José, meu irmão.

19And if any one betrayeth a righteous man, the righteous man prayeth: though for a little he be humbled, yet not long after he appeareth far more glorious, as was Joseph my brother.

20A inclinação do homem bom não está sob o poder do engano do espírito de Beliar, pois o anjo da paz guia sua alma. E ele não contempla com paixão as coisas corruptíveis, nem ajunta riquezas pelo desejo do prazer. Não se deleita no prazer, não entristece seu próximo, não se farta de luxos, não erra ao erguer os olhos, o Senhor é sua porção.

20The inclination of the good man is not in the power of the deceit of the spirit of Beliar, for the angel of peace guideth his soul. And he gazeth not passionately upon corruptible things, nor gathereth together riches through a desire of pleasure. He delighteth not in pleasure, he grieveth for not his neighbour, he sateth not himself with luxuries, he erreth not in the uplifting of the eyes, the Lord is his portion.

21A boa inclinação não recebe glória nem desonra dos homens e não conhece engano, mentira, contenda nem injúria; pois o Senhor habita nele e ilumina sua alma, e ele sempre se alegra com todos os homens. A boa mente não tem duas línguas, de bênção e de maldição, de insulto e de honra, de tristeza e de alegria, de quietude e de confusão, de hipocrisia e de verdade, de pobreza e de riqueza; mas tem uma só disposição, incorrupta e pura, para com todos os homens.

21The good inclination receiveth not glory nor dishonor from men, and it knoweth not any guile, or lie, or fighting or reviling; for the Lord dwelleth in him and lighteth up his soul, and he rejoiceth towards all men alway. The good mind hath not two tongues, of blessing and of cursing, of contumely and of honor, of sorrow and of joy, of quietness and of confusion, of hypocrisy and of truth, of poverty and of wealth; but it hath one disposition, uncorrupt and pure, concerning all men.

22Não tem dupla visão nem dupla audição; pois em tudo o que faz, diz ou vê, sabe que o Senhor contempla sua alma. E purifica sua mente para não ser condenado pelos homens nem por Deus. Da mesma forma, as obras de Beliar são duplas, e nelas não há unidade.

22It hath no double sight, nor double hearing; for in everything which he doeth, or speaketh, or seeth, he knoweth that the Lord looketh on his soul. And he cleanseth his mind that he may not be condemned by men as well as by God. And in like manner the works of Beliar are twofold, and there is no singleness in them.

23Portanto, meus filhos, digo-vos: fugi da malícia de Beliar, pois ele dá uma espada aos que lhe obedecem.

23Therefore, my children, I tell you, flee the malice of Beliar; for he giveth a sword to them that obey him.

24E a espada é mãe de sete males. Primeiro, a mente concebe por meio de Beliar, e primeiro há derramamento de sangue; segundo, ruína; terceiro, tribulação; quarto, exílio; quinto, escassez; sexto, pânico; sétimo, destruição.

24And the sword is the mother of seven evils. First the mind conceiveth through Beliar, and first there is bloodshed; secondly ruin; thirdly, tribulation; fourthly, exile; fifthly, dearth; sixthly, panic; seventhly, destruction.

25Por isso também Caim foi entregue por Deus a sete castigos, pois a cada cem anos o Senhor lhe trazia uma praga.

25Therefore was Cain also delivered over to seven vengeances by God, for in every hundred years the Lord brought one plague upon him.

26E quando tinha duzentos anos começou a sofrer, e no noningentésimo ano foi destruído. Pois por causa de Abel, seu irmão, foi julgado com todos os males, mas Lameque, com setenta vezes sete.

26And when he was two hundred years old he began to suffer, and in the nine-hundredth year he was destroyed. For on account of Abel, his brother, with all the evils was he judged, but Lamech with seventy times seven.

27Porque para sempre aqueles que são como Caim na inveja e no ódio aos irmãos serão punidos com o mesmo juízo.

27Because for ever those who are like Cain in envy and hatred of brethren, shall be punished with the same judgment.

28E vós, meus filhos, fugi das más obras, da inveja e do ódio aos irmãos, e apegai-vos à bondade e ao amor. Aquele que tem mente pura no amor não olha para uma mulher com intenção de fornicar; pois não tem impureza no coração, porque o Espírito de Deus repousa sobre ele.

28And do ye, my children, flee evil-doing, envy, and hatred of brethren, and cleave to goodness and love. He that hath a pure mind in love, looketh not after a woman with a view to fornication; for he hath no defilement in his heart, because the Spirit of God resteth upon him.

29Pois assim como o sol não se contamina ao brilhar sobre esterco e lama, mas antes seca ambos e afasta o mau cheiro, assim também a mente pura, embora cercada pelas impurezas da terra, antes as purifica (a elas) e não se contamina.

29For as the sun is not defiled by shining on dung and mire, but rather drieth up both and driveth away the evil smell; so also the pure mind, though encompassed by the defilements of earth, rather cleanseth (them) and is not itself defiled.

30E creio que haverá também más obras entre vós, segundo as palavras de Enoque, o justo: que cometereis a fornicação de Sodoma, e perecereis, salvo uns poucos, e renovareis atos lascivos com mulheres; e o reino do Senhor não estará entre vós, pois Ele logo o retirará.

30And I believe that there will be also evil-doings among you, from the words of Enoch the righteous: that ye shall commit fornication with the fornication of Sodom, and shall perish, all save a few, and shall renew wanton deeds with women; and the kingdom of the Lord shall not be among, you, for straightway He shall take it away.

31Contudo, o templo de Deus estará em vossa porção, e o último (templo) será mais glorioso que o primeiro. E as doze tribos ali se reunirão, e todos os gentios, até que o Altíssimo envie sua salvação na visitação de um profeta unigênito.

31Nevertheless the temple of God shall be in your portion, and the last (temple) shall be more glorious than the first. And the twelve tribes shall be gathered together there, and all the Gentiles, until the Most High shall send forth His salvation in the visitation of an only begotten prophet.

32E Ele entrará no primeiro templo, e ali o Senhor será ultrajado e será levantado sobre um madeiro. E o véu do templo será rasgado, e o Espírito de Deus passará aos gentios como fogo derramado.

32And He shall enter into the first temple, and there shall the Lord be treated with outrage, and He shall be lifted up upon a tree. And the veil of the temple shall be rent, and the Spirit of God shall pass on to the Gentiles as fire poured forth.

33E Ele subirá do Hades e passará da terra ao céu. E sei quão humilde será na terra e quão glorioso no céu.

33And He shall ascend from Hades and shall pass from earth into heaven. And I know how lowly He shall be upon earth, and how glorious in heaven.

34Ora, quando José estava no Egito, ansiava por ver sua figura e a forma de seu rosto; e pelas orações de Jacó, meu pai, vi-o desperto em pleno dia, toda a sua figura exatamente como era.

34Now when Joseph was in Egypt, I longed to see his figure and the form of his countenance; and through the prayers of Jacob my father I saw him, while awake in the daytime, even his entire figure exactly as he was.

35E depois de dizer essas coisas, disse-lhes: Sabei, portanto, meus filhos, que estou morrendo.

35And when he had said these things, he said unto them: Know ye, therefore, my children, that I am dying.

36Praticai, pois, a verdade e a justiça cada um para com seu próximo, e o juízo para confirmação, e guardai a lei do Senhor e seus mandamentos.

36Do ye, therefore, truth and righteousness each one to his neighbour, and judgement unto confirmation, and keep the law of the Lord and his commandments.

37Pois estas coisas vos deixo em lugar de herança. Vós também, portanto, dai-as a vossos filhos como posse perpétua; pois assim fizeram Abraão, Isaque e Jacó. Pois todas estas coisas eles nos deram por herança, dizendo: Guardai os mandamentos de Deus até que o Senhor revele sua salvação a todos os gentios. E então vereis Enoque, Noé e Sem, e Abraão, Isaque e Jacó, ressurgindo à direita em júbilo.

37For these things do I leave you instead of inheritance. Do ye also, therefore, give them to your children for an everlasting possession; for so did both Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob. For all these things they gave us for an inheritance, saying: Keep the commandments of God, until the Lord shall reveal His salvation to all Gentiles. And then shall ye see Enoch, Noah, and Shem, and Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, rising on the right hand in gladness.

38Então também nós ressurgiremos, cada um sobre sua tribo, adorando o Rei do céu, que apareceu na terra na forma de um homem em humildade. E todos quantos nele crerem na terra se alegrarão com Ele. Então também todos os homens ressurgirão, uns para glória e outros para vergonha.

38Then shall we also rise, each one over our tribe, worshipping the King of heaven, who appeared upon earth in the form of a man in humility. And as many as believe on Him on the earth shall rejoice with Him. Then also all men shall rise, some unto glory and some unto shame.

39E o Senhor julgará primeiro Israel por sua injustiça; pois, quando apareceu como Deus em carne para libertá-los, eles não creram nele. E depois julgará todos os gentios, todos quantos não creram nele quando apareceu na terra.

39And the Lord shall judge Israel first, for their unrighteousness; for when He appeared as God in the flesh to deliver them they believed Him not. And then shall He judge all the Gentiles, as many as believed Him not when He appeared upon earth.

40E convencerá Israel por meio dos escolhidos dentre os gentios, assim como repreendeu Esaú por meio dos midianitas, que enganaram seus irmãos, de modo que caíram na fornicação e na idolatria; e se afastaram de Deus, tornando-se, portanto, filhos na porção daqueles que temem o Senhor.

40And He shall convict Israel through the chosen ones of the Gentiles, even as He reproved Esau through the Midianites, who deceived their brethren, so that they fell into fornication, and idolatry; and they were alienated from God, becoming therefore children in the portion of them that fear the Lord.

41Se, portanto, meus filhos, andardes em santidade segundo os mandamentos do Senhor, habitareis outra vez em segurança comigo, e todo Israel será reunido ao Senhor.

41If ye therefore, my children, walk in holiness according to the commandments of the Lord, ye shall again dwell securely with me, and all Israel shall be gathered unto the Lord.

42E não mais serei chamado lobo devorador por causa de vossas devastações, mas obreiro do Senhor, distribuindo alimento àqueles que praticam o bem.

42And I shall no longer be called a ravening wolf on account of your ravages, but a worker of the Lord, distributing food to them that work what is good.

43E surgirá de minha descendência nos últimos tempos um amado do Senhor, que ouvirá na terra sua voz e cumprirá o beneplácito de sua vontade, iluminando todos os gentios com novo conhecimento, a própria luz do conhecimento, irrompendo sobre Israel para salvação, arrancando-os como um lobo e entregando-os à sinagoga dos gentios.

43And there shall rise up from my seed in the latter times one beloved of the Lord, hearing upon the earth His voice and a doer of the good pleasure of His will, enlightening with new knowledge all the Gentiles, even the light of knowledge, bursting in upon Israel for salvation and tearing away from them like a wolf, and giving to the synagogue of the Gentiles.

44Até a consumação dos tempos, ele estará nas sinagogas dos gentios e entre seus governantes, como uma melodia na boca de todos. E será inscrito nos livros sagrados, tanto sua obra como sua palavra, e será um escolhido de Deus para sempre. E por meio deles irá de um lado para outro, como Jacó, meu pai, dizendo: Ele suprirá o que falta à tua tribo.

44Until the consummation of the age shall he be in the synagogues of the Gentiles, and among their rulers, as a strain of music in the mouth of all. And he shall be inscribed in the holy books, both his work and his word, and he shall be a chosen one of God for ever. And through them he shall go to and fro as Jacob my father, saying: He shall fill up that which lacketh of thy tribe.

45E quando terminou suas palavras, disse: Ordeno-vos, meus filhos: levai meus ossos para fora do Egito e sepultai-me em Hebrom, perto de meus pais. Assim morreu Benjamim, com cento e vinte e cinco anos, em boa velhice, e eles o colocaram num caixão.

45And when he finished his words, he said: I command you, my children, carry up my bones out of Egypt, and bury me at Hebron, near my fathers. So Benjamin died a hundred and twenty-five years old, at a good old age, and they placed him in a coffin.

46E no nonagésimo primeiro ano desde a entrada dos filhos de Israel no Egito, eles e seus irmãos levaram secretamente os ossos de seus pais durante a guerra cananeia; e os sepultaram em Hebrom, aos pés de seus pais. E voltaram da terra de Canaã e habitaram no Egito até o dia de sua saída da terra do Egito.

46And in the ninety-first year from the entrance of the children of Israel into Egypt, they and their brethren brought up the bones of their fathers secretly during the Canaanitish war; and they buried them in Hebron, by the feet of their fathers. And they returned from the land of Canaan and dwelt in Egypt until the day of their departure from the land of Egypt.
