Testamento dos 12 Patriarcas 8

1A cópia do testamento de Naftali, o qual ordenou no tempo de sua morte, no centésimo trigésimo ano de sua vida. Quando seus filhos estavam reunidos no sétimo mês, no primeiro dia do mês, estando ele ainda com boa saúde, fez-lhes um banquete de comida e vinho.

1The copy of the testament of Naphtali, which he ordained at the time of his death in the hundred and thirtieth year of his life. When his sons were gathered together in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, while still in good health, he made them a feast of food and wine.

2E depois que despertou pela manhã, disse-lhes: Estou morrendo; e eles não creram nele. E enquanto glorificava ao Senhor, fortaleceu-se e disse que após o banquete de ontem haveria de morrer. E começou então a dizer: Ouvi, meus filhos, vós filhos de Naftali, ouvi as palavras de vosso pai.

2And after he was awake in the morning, he said to them, I am dying; and they believed him not. And as he glorified the Lord, he grew strong and said that after yesterday's feast he should die. And he began then to say: Hear, my children, ye sons of Naphtali, hear the words of your father.

3Eu nasci de Bila; e porque Raquel agiu astutamente e deu Bila em seu lugar a Jacó, e ela concebeu e deu-me à luz sobre os joelhos de Raquel, por isso ela chamou o meu nome Naftali. Pois Raquel amava-me grandemente porque eu nascera sobre o seu colo; e quando eu ainda era jovem costumava beijar-me e dizer: Oxalá tenha eu um irmão teu de meu próprio ventre, semelhante a ti.

3I was born from Bilhah, and because Rachel dealt craftily, and gave Bilhah in place of herself to Jacob, and she conceived and bare me upon Rachel's knees, therefore she called my name Naphtali. For Rachel loved me very much because I was born upon her lap; and when I was still young she was wont to kiss me, and say: May I have a brother of thine from mine own womb, like unto thee.

4Por isso também José era semelhante a mim em todas as coisas, conforme as orações de Raquel. Ora, minha mãe era Bila, filha de Roteu, irmão de Débora, ama de Rebeca, a qual nasceu no mesmo dia com Raquel. E Roteu era da família de Abraão, caldeu, temente a Deus, nascido livre e nobre.

4Whence also Joseph was like unto me in all things, according to the prayers of Rachel. Now my mother was Bilhah, daughter of Rotheus the brother of Deborah, Rebecca's nurse, who was born on one and the self-same day with Rachel. And Rotheus was of the family of Abraham, a Chaldean, God fearing, free-born, and noble.

5E foi levado cativo e comprado por Labão; e este lhe deu por mulher a sua serva Euna, e ela deu à luz uma filha e chamou o seu nome Zilpa, segundo o nome da aldeia na qual ele fora levado cativo. E em seguida deu à luz Bila, dizendo: Minha filha apressa-se após o que é novo, pois imediatamente ao nascer agarrou o seio e apressou-se a mamar.

5And he was taken captive and was bought by Laban; and he gave him Euna his handmaid to wife, and she bore a daughter, and called her name Zilpah, after the name of the village in which he had been taken captive. And next she bore Bilhah, saying: My daughter hastens after what is new, for immediately that she was born she seized the breast and hastened to suck it.

6E eu era veloz de pés como o cervo, e meu pai Jacó designou-me para todas as mensagens, e como a um cervo deu-me a sua bênção. Pois como o oleiro conhece o vaso, quanto ele deve conter, e traz o barro em conformidade, assim também o Senhor faz o corpo à semelhança do espírito, e conforme a capacidade do corpo Ele implanta o espírito.

6And I was swift on my feet like the deer, and my father Jacob appointed me for all messages, and as a deer did he give me his blessing. For as the potter knoweth the vessel, how much it is to contain, and bringeth clay accordingly, so also doth the Lord make the body after the likeness of the spirit, and according to the capacity of the body doth He implant the spirit.

7E um não difere do outro nem pela terça parte de um cabelo; pois por peso, medida e regra foi toda a criação feita. E como o oleiro conhece o uso de cada vaso, para que serve, assim também o Senhor conhece o corpo, até onde perseverará no bem e quando começará no mal. Pois não há inclinação ou pensamento que o Senhor não conheça, pois Ele criou cada homem à Sua própria imagem.

7And the one does not fall short of the other by a third part of a hair; for by weight, and measure, and rule was all the creation made. And as the potter knoweth the use of each vessel, what it is meet for, so also doth the Lord know the body, how far it will persist in goodness, and when it beginneth in evil. For there is no inclination or thought which the Lord knoweth not, for He created every man after His own image.

8Conforme a força do homem, assim também é a sua obra; e conforme o seu ânimo, assim também é a sua perícia; e conforme o seu propósito, assim também é a sua realização; e conforme o seu coração, assim também é a sua boca; como o seu olho, assim também é o seu sono; como a sua alma, assim também é a sua palavra, quer na lei do Senhor, quer nas obras de Beliar.

8As a man's strength, so also is his work; and as his mind, so also is his skill; and as his purpose, so also is his achievement; and as his heart, so also is his mouth; as his eye, so also is his sleep; as his soul, so also is his word, either in the law of the Lord or in the works of Beliar.

9E como há divisão entre luz e trevas, entre ver e ouvir, assim também há divisão entre homem e homem, e entre mulher e mulher; e não se pode dizer que um seja semelhante ao outro, quer no rosto, quer no entendimento.

9And as there is a division between light and darkness, between seeing and hearing, so also is there a division between man and man, and between woman and woman; and it is not to be said that the one is like the other either in face or in mind.

10Pois Deus fez todas as coisas boas em sua ordem: os cinco sentidos na cabeça, e uniu o pescoço à cabeça, acrescentando-lhe também o cabelo para formosura e glória; depois o coração para o entendimento, o ventre para a excreção, o estômago para a (trituração), a traqueia para receber (o fôlego), o fígado para o furor, o fel para a amargura, o baço para o riso, os rins para a prudência, os músculos dos lombos para o poder, os pulmões para a respiração, os lombos para a força, e assim por diante.

10For God made all things good in their order, the five senses in the head, and He joined on the neck to the head, adding to it the hair also for comeliness and glory, then the heart for understanding, the belly for excrement, and the stomach for (grinding), the windpipe for taking in (the breath), the liver for wrath, the gall for bitterness, the spleen for laughter, the reins for prudence, the muscles of the loins for power, the lungs for drawing in, the loins for strength, and so forth.

11Portanto, meus filhos, sejam todas as vossas obras feitas em ordem, com reta intenção no temor de Deus, e nada façais desordenadamente com desprezo ou fora do devido tempo. Pois se ordenares ao olho que ouça, ele não pode; assim também, enquanto estiverdes em trevas, não podereis praticar as obras da luz.

11So then, my children, let all your works be done in order with good intent in the fear of God, and do nothing disorderly in scorn or out of its due season. For if thou bid the eye to hear, it cannot; so neither while ye are in darkness can ye do the works of light.

12Não vos apresseis, pois, em corromper as vossas obras pela cobiça, nem em enganar as vossas almas com palavras vãs; porque se guardardes silêncio na pureza do coração, compreendereis como reter a vontade de Deus e como repelir a vontade de Beliar.

12Be ye, therefore, not eager to corrupt your doings through covetousness or with vain words to beguile your souls; because if ye keep silence in purity of heart, ye shall understand how to hold fast the will of God, and to cast away the will of Beliar.

13O sol, a lua e as estrelas não alteram a sua ordem; assim também vós não altereis a lei de Deus na desordem de vossas obras. Os gentios se desviaram, e abandonaram o Senhor, e mudaram a sua ordem, e obedeceram a paus e pedras, espíritos do engano.

13Sun and moon and stars change not their order; so do ye also change not the law of God in the disorderliness of your doings. The Gentiles went astray, and forsook the Lord, and changed their order, and obeyed stocks and stones, spirits of deceit.

14Vós, porém, não sereis assim, meus filhos, reconhecendo no firmamento, na terra, no mar e em todas as coisas criadas o Senhor que tudo fez, para que não vos torneis como Sodoma, a qual mudou a ordem da natureza. De modo semelhante também os Vigilantes mudaram a ordem de sua natureza, aos quais o Senhor amaldiçoou no dilúvio, por causa dos quais fez a terra desabitada e estéril.

14But ye shall not be so, my children, recognizing in the firmament, in the earth, and in the sea, and in all created things, the Lord who made all things, that ye become not as Sodom, which changed the order of nature. In like manner the Watchers also changed the order of their nature, whom the Lord cursed at the flood, on whose account He made the earth without inhabitants and fruitless.

15Estas coisas vos digo, meus filhos, pois li no escrito de Enoque que vós também vos apartareis do Senhor, andando segundo toda a iniquidade dos gentios, e fareis conforme toda a maldade de Sodoma.

15These things I say unto you, my children, for I have read in the writing of Enoch that ye yourselves also shall depart from the Lord, walking according to all the lawlessness of the Gentiles, and ye shall do according to all the wickedness of Sodom.

16E o Senhor trará sobre vós o cativeiro, e ali servireis aos vossos inimigos, e sereis curvados sob toda aflição e tribulação, até que o Senhor vos tenha consumido a todos. E depois de vos terdes diminuído e ficado poucos, voltareis e reconhecereis o Senhor vosso Deus; e Ele vos reconduzirá à vossa terra, segundo a Sua abundante misericórdia.

16And the Lord shall bring captivity upon you, and there shall ye serve your enemies, and ye shall be bowed down with every affliction and tribulation, until the Lord have consumed you all. And after ye have become minished and made few, ye shall return and acknowledge the Lord your God; and He shall bring you back into your land, according to His abundant mercy.

17E sucederá que, depois que tiverem entrado na terra de seus pais, esquecerão novamente o Senhor e se tornarão ímpios. E o Senhor os espalhará sobre a face de toda a terra, até que venha a compaixão do Senhor, um homem operando a justiça e usando de misericórdia para com todos os que estão longe e para com os que estão perto.

17And it shall be, that after that they come into the land of their fathers, they shall again forget the Lord and become ungodly. And the Lord shall scatter them upon the face of all the earth, until the compassion of the Lord shall come, a man working righteousness and working mercy unto all them that are afar off, and to them that are near.

18Pois, no quadragésimo ano de minha vida, tive uma visão no Monte das Oliveiras, a oriente de Jerusalém, de que o sol e a lua estavam parados. E eis que Isaque, o pai de meu pai, nos disse: Correi e apoderai-vos deles, cada um segundo as suas forças; e àquele que os tomar pertencerão o sol e a lua.

18For in the fortieth year of my life, I saw a vision on the Mount of Olives, on the east of Jerusalem, that the sun and the moon were standing still. And behold Isaac, the father of my father, said to us; Run and lay hold of them, each one according to his strength; and to him that seizeth them will the sun and moon belong.

19E corremos todos nós juntos, e Levi segurou o sol, e Judá adiantou-se aos outros e tomou a lua, e ambos foram erguidos com eles.

19And we all of us ran together, and Levi laid hold of the sun, and Judah outstripped the others and seized the moon, and they were both of them lifted up with them.

20E quando Levi se tornou como o sol, eis que um certo jovem deu-lhe doze ramos de palmeira;

20And when Levi became as a sun, lo, a certain young man gave to him twelve branches of palm;

21e Judá brilhava como a lua, e debaixo de seus pés havia doze raios. E ambos, Levi e Judá, correram e apoderaram-se deles. E um touro sobre a terra, com dois grandes chifres e asas de águia sobre as suas costas; e quisemos agarrá-lo, mas não pudemos.

21and Judah was bright as the moon, and under their feet were twelve rays. And the two, Levi and Judah, ran, and laid hold of them. And a bull upon the earth, with two great horns, and an eagle's wings upon its back; and we wished to seize him; but could not.

22Mas José veio e o agarrou, e subiu com ele às alturas. E eu vi, pois ali estava, e eis que nos apareceu uma santa escritura que dizia: Assírios, medos, persas, caldeus, sírios possuirão em cativeiro as doze tribos de Israel.

22But Joseph came, and seized him, and ascended up with him on high. And I saw, for I was there, and behold a holy writing appeared to us, saying: Assyrians, Medes, Persians, Chaldeans, Syrians, shall possess in captivity the twelve tribes of Israel.

23E outra vez, passados sete dias, vi nosso pai Jacó em pé junto ao mar de Jâmnia, e nós estávamos com ele. E eis que vinha um navio navegando, sem marinheiros nem piloto; e estava escrito sobre o navio: O Navio de Jacó. E nosso pai nos disse: Vinde, embarquemos em nosso navio.

23And again, after seven days, I saw our father Jacob standing by the sea of Jamnia, and we were with him. And behold, there came a ship sailing by, without sailors or pilot; and there was written upon the ship, The Ship of Jacob. And our father said to us: Come, let us embark on our ship.

24E tendo ele subido a bordo, levantou-se uma tempestade veemente e um grande vendaval; e nosso pai, que segurava o leme, apartou-se de nós. E nós, sacudidos pela tempestade, fomos levados sobre o mar; e o navio encheu-se de água (e foi) açoitado por grandes ondas, até que se despedaçou.

24And when he had gone on board, there arose a vehement storm, and a mighty tempest of wind; and our father, who was holding the helm, departed from us. And we, being tossed with the tempest, were borne along over the sea; and the ship was filled with water, (and was) pounded by mighty waves, until it was broken up.

25E José fugiu num barquinho, e fomos todos divididos sobre nove tábuas, e Levi e Judá ficaram juntos. E fomos todos dispersos até os confins da terra.

25And Joseph fled away upon a little boat, and we were all divided upon nine planks, and Levi and Judah were together. And we were all scattered unto the ends of the earth.

26Então Levi, cingido de pano de saco, orou por todos nós ao Senhor. E quando a tempestade cessou, o navio alcançou a terra como que em paz. E nosso pai veio, e todos nos regozijamos a uma só voz.

26Then Levi, girt about with sackcloth, prayed for us all unto the Lord. And when the storm ceased, the ship reached the land as it were in peace. And, our father came, and we all rejoiced with one accord.

27Estes dois sonhos contei a meu pai; e ele me disse: Estas coisas hão de cumprir-se em seu devido tempo, depois que Israel tiver suportado muitas coisas.

27These two dreams I told to my father; and he said to me: These things must be fulfilled in their season, after that Israel hath endured many things.

28Então meu pai me disse: Eu creio em Deus que José vive, pois vejo sempre que o Senhor o conta convosco. E disse em pranto: Ai de mim, meu filho José! Tu vives, embora eu não te veja, e tu não vês a Jacó que te gerou.

28Then my father saith unto me: I believe God that Joseph liveth, for I see always that the Lord numbereth him with you, And he said, weeping: Ah me, my son Joseph, thou livest, though I behold thee not, and thou seest not Jacob that begat thee.

29Fez-me também chorar por meio destas palavras, e o meu coração ardia por declarar que José fora vendido, mas temi a meus irmãos.

29He caused me also, therefore, to weep by these words, and I burned in my heart to declare that Joseph had been sold, but I feared my brethren.

30E eis, meus filhos, que vos mostrei os últimos tempos, como tudo se cumprirá em Israel. Encarregai também, pois, aos vossos filhos que se unam a Levi e a Judá; pois por meio deles surgirá a salvação para Israel, e neles será Jacó abençoado.

30And lo! my children, I have shown unto you the last times, how everything shall come to pass in Israel. Do ye also, therefore, charge your children that they be united to Levi and to Judah; For through them shall salvation arise unto Israel, And in them shall Jacob be blessed.

31Pois através de suas tribos Deus Se manifestará habitando entre os homens na terra, para salvar a linhagem de Israel e para reunir os justos dentre os gentios.

31For through their tribes shall God appear dwelling among men on earth, To save the race of Israel, And to gather together the righteous from amongst the Gentiles.

32Se praticardes o que é bom, meus filhos, homens e anjos vos abençoarão; e Deus será glorificado entre os gentios por meio de vós, e o diabo fugirá de vós, e as feras selvagens vos temerão, e o Senhor vos amará, e os anjos se apegarão a vós.

32If ye work that which is good, my children, Both men and angels shall bless you; And God shall be glorified among the Gentiles through you, And the devil shall flee from you, And the wild beasts shall fear you, And the Lord shall love you, And the angels shall cleave to you.

33Assim como o homem que educa bem uma criança é lembrado com carinho, assim também para a boa obra há uma boa memória diante de Deus.

33As a man who has trained a child well is kept in kindly remembrance: So also for a good work there is a good remembrance before God.

34Mas àquele que não pratica o que é bom, tanto os anjos como os homens o amaldiçoarão, e Deus será desonrado entre os gentios por meio dele, e o diabo o tomará como seu instrumento peculiar, e toda fera selvagem o dominará, e o Senhor o aborrecerá.

34But him that doeth not that which is good, Both angels and men shall curse, And God shall be dishonoured among the Gentiles through him, And the devil shall make him as his own peculiar instrument, And every wild beast shall master him, And the Lord shall hate him.

35Pois os mandamentos da lei são duplos, e com prudência devem ser cumpridos.

35For the commandments of the law are twofold, And through prudence must they be fulfilled.

36Pois há tempo para o homem abraçar a sua mulher, e tempo para abster-se disso para a sua oração.

36For there is a season for a man to embrace his wife, And a season to abstain therefrom for his prayer.

37Há, pois, dois mandamentos; e a menos que sejam cumpridos na devida ordem, trazem mui grande pecado sobre os homens. Assim também é com os demais mandamentos. Sede, pois, sábios em Deus, meus filhos, e prudentes, compreendendo a ordem de Seus mandamentos e as leis de cada palavra, para que o Senhor vos ame.

37So, then, there are two commandments; and, unless they be done in due order, they bring very great sin upon men. So also is it with the other commandments. Be ye therefore wise in God, my Children, and prudent, understanding the order of His commandments, and the laws of every word, that the Lord may love you.

38E tendo-lhes ordenado com muitas palavras semelhantes, exortou-os a que levassem os seus ossos para Hebrom, e o sepultassem junto aos seus pais. E tendo comido e bebido com coração alegre, cobriu a sua face e morreu. E seus filhos fizeram conforme tudo quanto Naftali, seu pai, lhes havia ordenado.

38And when he had charged them with many such words, he exhorted them that they should remove his bones to Hebron, and that they should bury him with his fathers. And when he had eaten and drunken with a merry heart, he covered his face and died. And his sons did according to all that Naphtali their father had commanded them.
