Eclesiastes 3

1Para todas as coisas há um tempo determinado, e todo propósito abaixo do céu tem seu tempo.

1To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

2Tempo de nascer e tempo de morrer; tempo de plantar e tempo de arrancar o que foi plantado.

2A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

3Tempo de matar e tempo de curar; tempo de derrubar e tempo de construir.

3A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;

4Tempo de chorar e tempo de rir; tempo de lamentar, e tempo de saltar.

4A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;

5Tempo de espalhar pedras e tempo de juntar pedras; tempo de abraçar e tempo de evitar abraçar.

5A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;

6Tempo de buscar e tempo de perder; tempo de guardar e tempo de jogar fora.

6A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;

7Tempo de rasgar e tempo de costurar; tempo de ficar calado e tempo de falar.

7A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;

8Tempo de amar e tempo de odiar; tempo de guerra e tempo de paz.

8A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.

9Que proveito tem o trabalhador naquilo em que ele trabalha?

9What profit hath he that worketh in that wherein he laboureth?

10Tenho visto a ocupação que Deus deu aos filhos dos homens, para com ela os manter ocupados.

10I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it.

11Tudo ele fez belo ao seu tempo; também pôs a sensação de eternidade no coração deles, sem que o homem consiga entender a obra que Deus fez, desde o princípio até o fim.

11He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

12Tenho percebido que não há coisa melhor para eles do que se alegrarem e fazerem o bem em suas vidas;

12I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.

13E também que todo homem coma, beba e fique contente com todo o seu trabalho; isto é um presente de Deus.

13And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

14Eu sei que tudo quanto Deus faz durará para sempre; a isso nada será acrescentado e nada será diminuído; e Deus faz assim para que haja temor perante sua presença.

14I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.

15O que tem sido agora, já foi antes; e o que vier a ser também já foi; Deus busca de volta o que foi passado.

15That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.

16Vi mais abaixo do sol: que no lugar do juízo havia ali perversidade; e que no lugar da justiça havia ali perversidade.

16And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.

17Eu disse em meu coração: Deus julgará ao justo e ao perverso, porque ali há tempo para todo propósito e para toda obra.

17I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.

18Eu disse em meu coração quanto aos filhos dos homens, que Deus lhes provaria, para lhes mostrar que eles são como animais.

18I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.

19Porque o que acontece aos filhos dos homens, isso mesmo também acontece aos animais; o mesmo acontece a eles todos; assim como um morre, assim também morre o outro; e todos tem uma mesma respiração; e a vantagem dos homens sobre os animais é nenhuma, pois todos são fúteis.

19For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.

20Todos vão a um mesmo lugar; todos vieram do pó da terra, e todos voltarão ao pó.

20All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.

21Quem tem certeza de que o fôlego de vida dos homens sobe para cima, e que o fôlego de vida dos animais desce para debaixo da terra?

21Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth?

22Por isso tenho visto que não há coisa melhor do que o homem se alegrar de suas obras, porque essa é a parte que lhe pertence; pois quem pode levá-lo a ver o que será depois de sua morte?

22Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him?
