Eclesiástico 16

1Não desejes uma multidão de filhos inúteis, nem te deleites em filhos ímpios.

1Desire not a multitude of unprofitable children, neither delight in ungodly sons.

2Ainda que se multipliquem, não te alegres com eles, se o temor do Senhor não estiver com eles.

2Though they multiply, rejoice not in them, except the fear of the Lord be with them.

3Não confies na vida deles, nem faças caso da sua multidão; pois um justo é melhor do que mil, e melhor é morrer sem filhos do que tê-los ímpios.

3Trust not thou in their life, neither respect their multitude: for one that is just is better than a thousand; and better it is to die without children, than to have them that are ungodly.

4Pois por um homem de entendimento a cidade será povoada, mas a raça dos ímpios logo ficará desolada.

4For by one that hath understanding shall the city be replenished: but the kindred of the wicked shall speedily become desolate.

5Muitas coisas semelhantes vi com os meus olhos, e o meu ouvido ouviu coisas maiores do que estas.

5Many such things have I seen with mine eyes, and mine ear hath heard greater things than these.

6Na assembleia dos ímpios se acenderá o fogo, e numa nação rebelde se inflama a ira.

6In the congregation of the ungodly shall a fire be kindled; and in a rebellious nation wrath is set on fire.

7Ele não se aplacou para com os antigos gigantes, que caíram na força da sua loucura.

7He was not pacified toward the old giants, who fell away in the strength of their foolishness.

8Nem poupou o lugar onde Ló habitava, mas os abominou pela sua soberba.

8Neither spared he the place where Lot sojourned, but abhorred them for their pride.

9Não teve compaixão do povo da perdição, que foi exterminado nos seus pecados;

9He pitied not the people of perdition, who were taken away in their sins:

10nem dos seiscentos mil homens a pé, que se reuniram na dureza dos seus corações.

10Nor the six hundred thousand footmen, who were gathered together in the hardness of their hearts.

11E, se houver um só de dura cerviz no meio do povo, será maravilha se escapar impune; pois a misericórdia e a ira estão com ele; é poderoso para perdoar e para derramar a indignação.

11And if there be one stiffnecked among the people, it is marvel if he escape unpunished: for mercy and wrath are with him; he is mighty to forgive, and to pour out displeasure.

12Como é grande a sua misericórdia, assim é também a sua correção; ele julga o homem segundo as suas obras.

12As his mercy is great, so is his correction also: he judgeth a man according to his works.

13O pecador não escapará com os seus despojos, e a paciência do piedoso não será frustrada.

13The sinner shall not escape with his spoils: and the patience of the godly shall not be frustrate.

14Abre caminho a toda obra de misericórdia; pois cada um achará segundo as suas obras.

14Make way for every work of mercy: for every man shall find according to his works.

15O Senhor endureceu Faraó, para que não o conhecesse, a fim de que as suas obras poderosas fossem conhecidas no mundo.

15The Lord hardened Pharaoh, that he should not know him, that his powerful works might be known to the world.

16A sua misericórdia é manifesta a toda criatura, e ele separou a sua luz das trevas com um diamante.

16His mercy is manifest to every creature; and he hath separated his light from the darkness with an adamant.

17Não digas: Esconder-me-ei do Senhor; quem se lembrará de mim lá do alto? Não serei lembrado entre tanta gente; pois que é a minha alma entre um número tão infinito de criaturas?

17Say not thou, I will hide myself from the Lord: shall any remember me from above? I shall not be remembered among so many people: for what is my soul among such an infinite number of creatures?

18Eis que o céu, e o céu dos céus, o abismo, e a terra, e tudo o que neles há serão abalados quando ele os visitar.

18Behold, the heaven, and the heaven of heavens, the deep, and the earth, and all that therein is, shall be moved when he shall visit.

19Também os montes e os fundamentos da terra se abalam com tremor quando o Senhor olha para eles.

19The mountains also and foundations of the earth be shaken with trembling, when the Lord looketh upon them.

20Nenhum coração pode pensar dignamente nestas coisas; e quem é capaz de conceber os seus caminhos?

20No heart can think upon these things worthily: and who is able to conceive his ways?

21É uma tempestade que ninguém pode ver; pois a maior parte das suas obras está oculta.

21It is a tempest which no man can see: for the most part of his works are hid.

22Quem pode anunciar as obras da sua justiça? Ou quem pode suportá-las? Pois a sua aliança está longe, e a prova de todas as coisas está no fim.

22Who can declare the works of his justice? or who can endure them? for his covenant is afar off, and the trial of all things is in the end.

23Quem é falto de entendimento pensará em coisas vãs, e o homem insensato, errando, imagina loucuras.

23He that wanteth understanding will think upon vain things: and a foolish man erring imagineth follies.

24Meu filho, escuta-me e aprende a ciência, e guarda as minhas palavras no teu coração.

24My son, hearken unto me, and learn knowledge, and mark my words with thy heart.

25Exporei a doutrina com peso e declararei o seu conhecimento com exatidão.

25I will shew forth doctrine in weight, and declare his knowledge exactly.

26As obras do Senhor foram feitas com juízo desde o princípio, e, desde o tempo em que as fez, ordenou as suas partes.

26The works of the Lord are done in judgment from the beginning: and from the time he made them he disposed the parts thereof.

27Adornou as suas obras para sempre, e na sua mão estão as principais delas por todas as gerações; não trabalham, nem se cansam, nem cessam das suas obras.

27He garnished his works for ever, and in his hand are the chief of them unto all generations: they neither labour, nor are weary, nor cease from their works.

28Nenhuma delas estorva a outra, e nunca desobedecerão à sua palavra.

28None of them hindereth another, and they shall never disobey his word.

29Depois disto o Senhor olhou para a terra e a encheu das suas bênçãos.

29After this the Lord looked upon the earth, and filled it with his blessings.

30Com toda sorte de seres vivos cobriu a sua face, e eles voltarão de novo para ela.

30With all manner of living things hath he covered the face thereof; and they shall return into it again.
