1Ouvi-me, filhos, a mim, vosso pai, e fazei assim, para que sejais salvos.

1Hear me your father, O children, and do thereafter, that ye may be safe.

2Pois o Senhor deu ao pai honra sobre os filhos, e confirmou a autoridade da mãe sobre os filhos.

2For the Lord hath given the father honour over the children, and hath confirmed the authority of the mother over the sons.

3Quem honra seu pai faz expiação pelos seus pecados;

3Whoso honoureth his father maketh an atonement for his sins:

4e quem honra sua mãe é como quem ajunta um tesouro.

4And he that honoureth his mother is as one that layeth up treasure.

5Quem honra seu pai terá alegria nos seus próprios filhos; e, quando fizer a sua oração, será ouvido.

5Whoso honoureth his father shall have joy of his own children; and when he maketh his prayer, he shall be heard.

6Quem honra seu pai terá longa vida; e quem obedece ao Senhor será consolo para sua mãe.

6He that honoureth his father shall have a long life; and he that is obedient unto the Lord shall be a comfort to his mother.

7Quem teme o Senhor honrará seu pai, e servirá aos seus pais como a senhores.

7He that feareth the Lord will honour his father, and will do service unto his parents, as to his masters.

8Honra teu pai e tua mãe por palavras e por obras, para que venha sobre ti a bênção deles.

8Honour thy father and mother both in word and deed, that a blessing may come upon thee from them.

9Pois a bênção do pai firma as casas dos filhos, mas a maldição da mãe arranca os fundamentos.

9For the blessing of the father establisheth the houses of children; but the curse of the mother rooteth out foundations.

10Não te glories na desonra de teu pai; pois a desonra de teu pai não é glória para ti.

10Glory not in the dishonour of thy father; for thy father’s dishonour is no glory unto thee.

11Pois a glória do homem vem da honra de seu pai, e a mãe desonrada é opróbrio para os filhos.

11For the glory of a man is from the honour of his father; and a mother in dishonour is a reproach to the children.

12Meu filho, ampara teu pai na sua velhice, e não o entristeças enquanto viver.

12My son, help thy father in his age, and grieve him not as long as he liveth.

13E, se lhe faltar o entendimento, tem paciência com ele, e não o desprezes quando estiveres em pleno vigor.

13And if his understanding fail, have patience with him; and despise him not when thou art in thy full strength.

14Pois o socorro a teu pai não será esquecido, e em lugar dos pecados te será contado para te edificar.

14For the relieving of thy father shall not be forgotten: and instead of sins it shall be added to build thee up.

15No dia da tua aflição será lembrado; também os teus pecados se derreterão, como o gelo no tempo bom e quente.

15In the day of thine affliction it shall be remembered; thy sins also shall melt away, as the ice in the fair warm weather.

16Quem abandona seu pai é como um blasfemo, e quem irrita sua mãe é amaldiçoado por Deus.

16He that forsaketh his father is as a blasphemer; and he that angereth his mother is cursed of God.

17Meu filho, conduz os teus negócios com mansidão; assim serás amado por aquele que é aprovado.

17My son, go on with thy business in meekness; so shalt thou be beloved of him that is approved.

18Quanto maior fores, tanto mais te humilha, e acharás graça diante do Senhor.

18The greater thou art, the more humble thyself, and thou shalt find favour before the Lord.

19Muitos estão em alta posição e têm renome; mas os mistérios são revelados aos mansos.

19Many are in high place, and of renown: but mysteries are revealed unto the meek.

20Pois o poder do Senhor é grande, e ele é honrado pelos humildes.

20For the power of the Lord is great, and he is honoured of the lowly.

21Não busques as coisas que são difíceis demais para ti, nem investigues as que estão acima das tuas forças.

21Seek not out things that are too hard for thee, neither search the things that are above thy strength.

22Mas pensa com reverência no que te é ordenado; pois não te é necessário ver com os teus olhos as coisas ocultas.

22But what is commanded thee, think thereupon with reverence, for it is not needful for thee to see with thine eyes the things that are in secret.

23Não sejas curioso em coisas desnecessárias; pois te foram mostradas mais coisas do que os homens entendem.

23Be not curious in unnecessary matters: for more things are shewed unto thee than men understand.

24Pois muitos são enganados pela sua própria opinião vã, e uma suspeita má transtornou o seu juízo.

24For many are deceived by their own vain opinion; and an evil suspicion hath overthrown their judgment.

25Sem olhos te faltará a luz; não professes, pois, o conhecimento que não tens.

25Without eyes thou shalt want light: profess not the knowledge therefore that thou hast not.

26O coração obstinado passará mal no fim, e quem ama o perigo nele perecerá.

26A stubborn heart shall fare evil at the last; and he that loveth danger shall perish therein.

27O coração teimoso será carregado de dores, e o homem ímpio acumulará pecado sobre pecado.

27An obstinate heart shall be laden with sorrows; and the wicked man shall heap sin upon sin.

28No castigo do soberbo não há remédio; pois a planta da maldade lançou raiz nele.

28In the punishment of the proud there is no remedy; for the plant of wickedness hath taken root in him.

29O coração do prudente entenderá a parábola, e o ouvido atento é o desejo do sábio.

29The heart of the prudent will understand a parable; and an attentive ear is the desire of a wise man.

30A água apaga o fogo ardente, e a esmola faz expiação pelos pecados.

30Water will quench a flaming fire; and alms maketh an atonement for sins.

31E quem retribui os benefícios lembra-se do que pode vir depois; e, quando cair, achará apoio.

31And he that requiteth good turns is mindful of that which may come hereafter; and when he falleth, he shall find a stay.
