1Se fores feito mestre de um banquete, não te exaltes, mas sê entre eles como um dos demais; cuida deles com diligência, e assim assenta-te.

1If thou be made the master of a feast, lift not thyself up, but be among them as one of the rest; take diligent care for them, and so sit down.

2E, quando tiveres feito todo o teu ofício, toma o teu lugar, para que te alegres com eles e recebas uma coroa pela boa ordem do banquete.

2And when thou hast done all thy office, take thy place, that thou mayest be merry with them, and receive a crown for thy well ordering of the feast.

3Fala, tu que és o mais velho, pois te convém, mas com juízo sadio; e não estorves a música.

3Speak, thou that art the elder, for it becometh thee, but with sound judgment; and hinder not musick.

4Não derrames palavras onde há um músico, e não mostres sabedoria fora de tempo.

4Pour not out words where there is a musician, and shew not forth wisdom out of time.

5Um concerto de música num banquete de vinho é como um sinete de carbúnculo engastado em ouro.

5A concert of musick in a banquet of wine is as a signet of carbuncle set in gold.

6Como um sinete de esmeralda engastado numa obra de ouro, assim é a melodia da música com o vinho agradável.

6As a signet of an emerald set in a work of gold, so is the melody of musick with pleasant wine.

7Fala, jovem, se houver necessidade de ti; e, ainda assim, apenas quando fores perguntado duas vezes.

7Speak, young man, if there be need of thee: and yet scarcely when thou art twice asked.

8Seja breve a tua fala, compreendendo muito em poucas palavras; sê como quem sabe e, contudo, cala a língua.

8Let thy speech be short, comprehending much in few words; be as one that knoweth and yet holdeth his tongue.

9Se estiveres entre os grandes, não te faças igual a eles; e, quando os anciãos estiverem presentes, não uses muitas palavras.

9If thou be among great men, make not thyself equal with them; and when ancient men are in place, use not many words.

10Antes do trovão vai o relâmpago, e diante do homem pudico irá o favor.

10Before the thunder goeth lightning; and before a shamefaced man shall go favour.

11Levanta-te a tempo e não sejas o último; mas vai para casa sem demora.

11Rise up betimes, and be not the last; but get thee home without delay.

12Ali diverte-te e faze o que quiseres; mas não peques por palavra soberba.

12There take thy pastime, and do what thou wilt: but sin not by proud speech.

13E por estas coisas bendize aquele que te fez e te encheu dos seus bens.

13And for these things bless him that made thee, and hath replenished thee with his good things.

14Quem teme o Senhor receberá a sua disciplina, e os que o buscam cedo acharão favor.

14Whoso feareth the Lord will receive his discipline; and they that seek him early shall find favour.

15Quem busca a lei será cheio dela; mas o hipócrita se escandalizará nela.

15He that seeketh the law shall be filled therewith: but the hypocrite will be offended thereat.

16Os que temem o Senhor acharão o juízo e acenderão a justiça como uma luz.

16They that fear the Lord shall find judgment, and shall kindle justice as a light.

17O homem pecador não aceita repreensão, mas acha uma desculpa segundo a sua vontade.

17A sinful man will not be reproved, but findeth an excuse according to his will.

18O homem de conselho será ponderado; mas o estranho e soberbo não se intimida com o temor, mesmo quando por si mesmo agiu sem conselho.

18A man of counsel will be considerate; but a strange and proud man is not daunted with fear, even when of himself he hath done without counsel.

19Nada faças sem conselho; e, depois de feito, não te arrependas.

19Do nothing without advice; and when thou hast once done, repent not.

20Não andes por um caminho em que possas cair, e não tropeces entre as pedras.

20Go not in a way wherein thou mayest fall, and stumble not among the stones.

21Não confies num caminho plano.

21Be not confident in a plain way.

22E guarda-te dos teus próprios filhos.

22And beware of thine own children.

23Em toda boa obra confia na tua própria alma; pois isto é guardar os mandamentos.

23In every good work trust thy own soul; for this is the keeping of the commandments.

24Quem crê no Senhor atende ao mandamento; e quem confia nele nunca se sairá pior.

24He that believeth in the Lord taketh heed to the commandment; and he that trusteth in him shall fare never the worse.
