Eclesiástico 39

1Mas aquele que dá o seu ânimo à lei do Altíssimo e se ocupa na meditação dela buscará a sabedoria de todos os antigos e se ocupará nas profecias.

1But he that giveth his mind to the law of the most High, and is occupied in the meditation thereof, will seek out the wisdom of all the ancient, and be occupied in prophecies.

2Guardará os ditos dos homens afamados, e onde houver parábolas sutis, ali também estará.

2He will keep the sayings of the renowned men: and where subtil parables are, he will be there also.

3Buscará os segredos das sentenças graves, e será versado nas parábolas obscuras.

3He will seek out the secrets of grave sentences, and be conversant in dark parables.

4Servirá entre os grandes e aparecerá diante dos príncipes; viajará por terras estranhas, pois provou o bem e o mal entre os homens.

4He shall serve among great men, and appear before princes: he will travel through strange countries; for he hath tried the good and the evil among men.

5Dará o seu coração a recorrer cedo ao Senhor que o fez, e orará diante do Altíssimo, e abrirá a sua boca em oração, e fará súplica pelos seus pecados.

5He will give his heart to resort early to the Lord that made him, and will pray before the most High, and will open his mouth in prayer, and make supplication for his sins.

6Quando o grande Senhor quiser, ele será cheio do espírito de entendimento; derramará sentenças sábias e dará graças ao Senhor na sua oração.

6When the great Lord will, he shall be filled with the spirit of understanding: he shall pour out wise sentences, and give thanks unto the Lord in his prayer.

7Dirigirá o seu conselho e conhecimento, e meditará nos seus segredos.

7He shall direct his counsel and knowledge, and in his secrets shall he meditate.

8Mostrará o que aprendeu, e se gloriará na lei da aliança do Senhor.

8He shall shew forth that which he hath learned, and shall glory in the law of the covenant of the Lord.

9Muitos louvarão o seu entendimento; e, enquanto o mundo durar, não será apagado; a sua memória não se apartará, e o seu nome viverá de geração em geração.

9Many shall commend his understanding; and so long as the world endureth, it shall not be blotted out; his memorial shall not depart away, and his name shall live from generation to generation.

10As nações anunciarão a sua sabedoria, e a congregação publicará o seu louvor.

10Nations shall shew forth his wisdom, and the congregation shall declare his praise.

11Se morrer, deixará um nome maior do que mil; e, se viver, o aumentará.

11If he die, he shall leave a greater name than a thousand: and if he live, he shall increase it.

12Ainda tenho mais a dizer, sobre o que meditei; pois estou cheio como a lua cheia.

12Yet have I more to say, which I have thought upon; for I am filled as the moon at the full.

13Ouvi-me, filhos santos, e brotai como a rosa que cresce junto ao ribeiro do campo;

13Hearken unto me, ye holy children, and bud forth as a rose growing by the brook of the field:

14e dai cheiro suave como o incenso, e florescei como o lírio; exalai perfume, e cantai um cântico de louvor, bendizei o Senhor em todas as suas obras.

14And give ye a sweet savour as frankincense, and flourish as a lily, send forth a smell, and sing a song of praise, bless the Lord in all his works.

15Engrandecei o seu nome, e anunciai o seu louvor com os cânticos dos vossos lábios e com harpas; e, louvando-o, direis desta maneira:

15Magnify his name, and shew forth his praise with the songs of your lips, and with harps, and in praising him ye shall say after this manner:

16Todas as obras do Senhor são sobremodo boas, e tudo o que ele manda se cumprirá no tempo devido.

16All the works of the Lord are exceeding good, and whatsoever he commandeth shall be accomplished in due season.

17E ninguém pode dizer: Que é isto? Para que é aquilo? Pois no tempo conveniente todas serão buscadas; ao seu mandado as águas se levantaram como um montão, e às palavras da sua boca se fizeram os reservatórios das águas.

17And none may say, What is this? wherefore is that? for at time convenient they shall all be sought out: at his commandment the waters stood as an heap, and at the words of his mouth the receptacles of waters.

18Ao seu mandado se faz tudo o que lhe agrada, e ninguém pode impedir quando ele quer salvar.

18At his commandment is done whatsoever pleaseth him; and none can hinder, when he will save.

19As obras de toda carne estão diante dele, e nada se pode esconder dos seus olhos.

19The works of all flesh are before him, and nothing can be hid from his eyes.

20Ele vê de eternidade em eternidade, e nada há de maravilhoso diante dele.

20He seeth from everlasting to everlasting; and there is nothing wonderful before him.

21Não é preciso que o homem diga: Que é isto? Para que é aquilo? Pois ele fez todas as coisas para os seus usos.

21A man need not to say, What is this? wherefore is that? for he hath made all things for their uses.

22A sua bênção cobriu a terra seca como um rio, e a regou como uma inundação.

22His blessing covered the dry land as a river, and watered it as a flood.

23Assim como converteu as águas em salgadura, assim os gentios herdarão a sua ira.

23As he hath turned the waters into saltness: so shall the heathen inherit his wrath.

24Assim como os seus caminhos são planos para os santos, assim são pedras de tropeço para os ímpios.

24As his ways are plain unto the holy; so are they stumblingblocks unto the wicked.

25Pois para os bons foram criadas as coisas boas desde o princípio; assim as coisas más para os pecadores.

25For the good are good things created from the beginning: so evil things for sinners.

26As coisas principais para todo o uso da vida do homem são a água, o fogo, o ferro e o sal, a flor de farinha de trigo, o mel, o leite e o sangue da uva, o azeite e o vestido.

26The principal things for the whole use of man’s life are water, fire, iron, and salt, flour of wheat, honey, milk, and the blood of the grape, and oil, and clothing.

27Todas estas coisas são para bem dos piedosos; assim, para os pecadores, se convertem em mal.

27All these things are for good to the godly: so to the sinners they are turned into evil.

28Há espíritos que foram criados para a vingança, que no seu furor descarregam golpes pesados; no tempo da destruição derramam a sua força e aplacam a ira daquele que os fez.

28There be spirits that are created for vengeance, which in their fury lay on sore strokes; in the time of destruction they pour out their force, and appease the wrath of him that made them.

29O fogo, e a saraiva, e a fome, e a morte, todas estas coisas foram criadas para a vingança;

29Fire, and hail, and famine, and death, all these were created for vengeance;

30os dentes das feras, e os escorpiões, as serpentes e a espada que castiga os ímpios até a destruição.

30Teeth of wild beasts, and scorpions, serpents, and the sword punishing the wicked to destruction.

31Alegrar-se-ão no seu mandado, e estarão prontos sobre a terra quando houver necessidade; e, quando chegar o seu tempo, não transgredirão a sua palavra.

31They shall rejoice in his commandment, and they shall be ready upon earth, when need is; and when their time is come, they shall not transgress his word.

32Por isso, desde o princípio estive resolvido, e meditei nestas coisas, e as deixei por escrito.

32Therefore from the beginning I was resolved, and thought upon these things, and have left them in writing.

33Todas as obras do Senhor são boas, e ele dará toda coisa necessária no tempo devido.

33All the works of the Lord are good: and he will give every needful thing in due season.

34De modo que ninguém pode dizer: Isto é pior do que aquilo; pois a seu tempo todas serão bem aprovadas.

34So that a man cannot say, This is worse than that: for in time they shall all be well approved.

35E, por isso, louvai o Senhor com todo o coração e com a boca, e bendizei o nome do Senhor.

35And therefore praise ye the Lord with the whole heart and mouth, and bless the name of the Lord.
