1Destas coisas não te envergonhes, e não faças acepção de pessoas para pecar por isso:

1Of these things be not thou ashamed, and accept no person to sin thereby:

2da lei do Altíssimo e da sua aliança; e do juízo para justificar o ímpio;

2Of the law of the most High, and his covenant; and of judgment to justify the ungodly;

3de fazer contas com os teus sócios e companheiros de viagem; ou da doação da herança dos amigos;

3Of reckoning with thy partners and travellers; or of the gift of the heritage of friends;

4da exatidão da balança e dos pesos; ou de ganhar muito ou pouco;

4Of exactness of balance and weights; or of getting much or little;

5e da venda imparcial dos mercadores; da muita correção dos filhos; e de fazer sangrar o lado do servo mau.

5And of merchants’ indifferent selling; of much correction of children; and to make the side of an evil servant to bleed.

6A guarda segura é boa onde há mulher má; e fecha à chave onde há muitas mãos.

6Sure keeping is good, where an evil wife is; and shut up, where many hands are.

7Entrega todas as coisas por número e peso; e põe por escrito tudo o que dás e o que recebes.

7Deliver all things in number and weight; and put all in writing that thou givest out, or receivest in.

8Não te envergonhes de instruir o néscio e o insensato, e o muito velho que contende com os jovens; assim serás verdadeiramente instruído e aprovado por todos os homens que vivem.

8Be not ashamed to inform the unwise and foolish, and the extreme aged that contendeth with those that are young: thus shalt thou be truly learned, and approved of all men living.

9O pai vela pela filha, quando ninguém o sabe, e o cuidado por ela lhe tira o sono: quando é jovem, para que não passe a flor da sua idade; e, casada, para que não seja odiada;

9The father waketh for the daughter, when no man knoweth; and the care for her taketh away sleep: when she is young, lest she pass away the flower of her age; and being married, lest she should be hated:

10na sua virgindade, para que não seja desonrada e fique grávida na casa de seu pai; e, tendo marido, para que não se porte mal; e, quando é casada, para que não seja estéril.

10In her virginity, lest she should be defiled and gotten with child in her father’s house; and having an husband, lest she should misbehave herself; and when she is married, lest she should be barren.

11Guarda com vigilância segura a filha sem vergonha, para que não te faça objeto de riso para os teus inimigos, e provérbio na cidade, e opróbrio entre o povo, e te envergonhe diante da multidão.

11Keep a sure watch over a shameless daughter, lest she make thee a laughingstock to thine enemies, and a byword in the city, and a reproach among the people, and make thee ashamed before the multitude.

12Não olhes a formosura de qualquer pessoa, e não te assentes no meio das mulheres.

12Behold not every body’s beauty, and sit not in the midst of women.

13Pois dos vestidos sai a traça, e das mulheres a maldade.

13For from garments cometh a moth, and from women wickedness.

14Melhor é a rudeza do homem do que a mulher cortês; a mulher, digo, que traz vergonha e opróbrio.

14Better is the churlishness of a man than a courteous woman, a woman, I say, which bringeth shame and reproach.

15Agora me lembrarei das obras do Senhor, e anunciarei as coisas que vi: nas palavras do Senhor estão as suas obras.

15I will now remember the works of the Lord, and declare the things that I have seen: In the words of the Lord are his works.

16O sol que dá luz olha para todas as coisas, e a sua obra está cheia da glória do Senhor.

16The sun that giveth light looketh upon all things, and the work thereof is full of the glory of the Lord.

17O Senhor não deu poder aos santos para anunciar todas as suas obras maravilhosas, que o Senhor Todo-Poderoso firmemente estabeleceu, para que tudo o que existe fosse firmado para a sua glória.

17The Lord hath not given power to the saints to declare all his marvellous works, which the Almighty Lord firmly settled, that whatsoever is might be established for his glory.

18Ele esquadrinha o abismo e o coração, e considera os seus astutos desígnios; pois o Senhor conhece tudo o que se pode conhecer, e contempla os sinais do mundo.

18He seeketh out the deep, and the heart, and considereth their crafty devices: for the Lord knoweth all that may be known, and he beholdeth the signs of the world.

19Ele anuncia as coisas passadas e as que hão de vir, e revela os rastros das coisas escondidas.

19He declareth the things that are past, and for to come, and revealeth the steps of hidden things.

20Nenhum pensamento lhe escapa, nem palavra alguma lhe está escondida.

20No thought escapeth him, neither any word is hidden from him.

21Ele adornou as excelentes obras da sua sabedoria, e é de eternidade em eternidade; a ele nada se pode acrescentar, nem pode ser diminuído, e não tem necessidade de conselheiro algum.

21He hath garnished the excellent works of his wisdom, and he is from everlasting to everlasting: unto him may nothing be added, neither can he be diminished, and he hath no need of any counsellor.

22Oh, quão desejáveis são todas as suas obras! E isto, para que o homem o veja até numa centelha.

22Oh how desirable are all his works! and that a man may see even to a spark.

23Todas estas coisas vivem e permanecem para sempre, para todos os usos, e todas lhe obedecem.

23All these things live and remain for ever for all uses, and they are all obedient.

24Todas as coisas são duplas, uma contra a outra; e ele nada fez imperfeito.

24All things are double one against another: and he hath made nothing imperfect.

25Uma coisa firma o bem da outra; e quem se fartará de contemplar a sua glória?

25One thing establisheth the good of another: and who shall be filled with beholding his glory?
