1O esplendor da altura, o firmamento claro, a formosura do céu com o seu glorioso aspecto;

1The pride of the height, the clear firmament, the beauty of heaven, with his glorious shew;

2o sol, quando aparece, anunciando no seu nascimento um instrumento maravilhoso, obra do Altíssimo.

2The sun when it appeareth, declaring at his rising a marvellous instrument, the work of the most High:

3Ao meio-dia ele cresta a terra; e quem pode suportar o seu ardor?

3At noon it parcheth the country, and who can abide the burning heat thereof?

4O homem que sopra a fornalha está em obras de calor; mas o sol queima os montes três vezes mais; exalando vapores de fogo e lançando raios brilhantes, escurece os olhos.

4A man blowing a furnace is in works of heat, but the sun burneth the mountains three times more; breathing out fiery vapours, and sending forth bright beams, it dimmeth the eyes.

5Grande é o Senhor que o fez; e, ao seu mandado, ele corre apressadamente.

5Great is the Lord that made it; and at his commandment runneth hastily.

6Fez também a lua, para servir no seu tempo, para indicação dos tempos e sinal do mundo.

6He made the moon also to serve in her season for a declaration of times, and a sign of the world.

7Da lua vem o sinal das festas, luz que míngua na sua plenitude.

7From the moon is the sign of feasts, a light that decreaseth in her perfection.

8O mês se chama pelo seu nome, crescendo maravilhosamente na sua mudança, sendo instrumento dos exércitos do alto, brilhando no firmamento do céu;

8The month is called after her name, increasing wonderfully in her changing, being an instrument of the armies above, shining in the firmament of heaven;

9a formosura do céu, a glória das estrelas, ornamento que dá luz nos lugares mais altos do Senhor.

9The beauty of heaven, the glory of the stars, an ornament giving light in the highest places of the Lord.

10Ao mandado do Santo elas estarão na sua ordem, e nunca desfalecerão nas suas vigílias.

10At the commandment of the Holy One they will stand in their order, and never faint in their watches.

11Olha para o arco-íris, e louva aquele que o fez; muito formoso é no seu resplendor.

11Look upon the rainbow, and praise him that made it; very beautiful it is in the brightness thereof.

12Ele rodeia o céu com um círculo glorioso, e as mãos do Altíssimo o curvaram.

12It compasseth the heaven about with a glorious circle, and the hands of the most High have bended it.

13Pelo seu mandado ele faz cair a neve apressadamente, e envia velozmente os relâmpagos do seu juízo.

13By his commandment he maketh the snow to fall apace, and sendeth swiftly the lightnings of his judgment.

14Por isto se abrem os tesouros, e as nuvens voam como aves.

14Through this the treasures are opened: and clouds fly forth as fowls.

15Pelo seu grande poder ele firma as nuvens, e as pedras de saraiva são quebradas em pedaços.

15By his great power he maketh the clouds firm, and the hailstones are broken small.

16À sua vista os montes são abalados, e pela sua vontade sopra o vento sul.

16At his sight the mountains are shaken, and at his will the south wind bloweth.

17O ruído do trovão faz tremer a terra; assim também a tempestade do norte e o redemoinho; como aves que voam ele espalha a neve, e a sua queda é como o pousar dos gafanhotos.

17The noise of the thunder maketh the earth to tremble: so doth the northern storm and the whirlwind: as birds flying he scattereth the snow, and the falling down thereof is as the lighting of grasshoppers:

18O olho se maravilha da formosura da sua brancura, e o coração se assombra da sua chuva.

18The eye marvelleth at the beauty of the whiteness thereof, and the heart is astonished at the raining of it.

19Também derrama sobre a terra a geada como sal, e, congelada, ela fica sobre a ponta de estacas agudas.

19The hoarfrost also as salt he poureth on the earth, and being congealed, it lieth on the top of sharp stakes.

20Quando sopra o frio vento norte e a água se congela em gelo, ele pousa sobre todo ajuntamento de águas e veste a água como de uma couraça.

20When the cold north wind bloweth, and the water is congealed into ice, it abideth upon every gathering together of water, and clotheth the water as with a breastplate.

21Ele devora os montes, e queima o deserto, e consome a erva como fogo.

21It devoureth the mountains, and burneth the wilderness, and consumeth the grass as fire.

22O remédio presente de tudo é uma névoa que vem depressa; um orvalho que vem depois do calor refresca.

22A present remedy of all is a mist coming speedily, a dew coming after heat refresheth.

23Pelo seu conselho ele aplaca o abismo, e planta nele ilhas.

23By his counsel he appeaseth the deep, and planteth islands therein.

24Os que navegam no mar contam os seus perigos; e, quando o ouvimos com os nossos ouvidos, maravilhamo-nos disso.

24They that sail on the sea tell of the danger thereof; and when we hear it with our ears, we marvel thereat.

25Pois ali há obras estranhas e maravilhosas, variedade de toda sorte de animais e de baleias criadas.

25For therein be strange and wondrous works, variety of all kinds of beasts and whales created.

26Por ele o fim delas tem próspero sucesso, e pela sua palavra todas as coisas subsistem.

26By him the end of them hath prosperous success, and by his word all things consist.

27Podemos falar muito, e ainda assim ficar aquém; portanto, em suma, ele é tudo.

27We may speak much, and yet come short: wherefore in sum, he is all.

28Como poderemos engrandecê-lo? Pois ele é grande acima de todas as suas obras.

28How shall we be able to magnify him? for he is great above all his works.

29O Senhor é terrível e muito grande, e maravilhoso é o seu poder.

29The Lord is terrible and very great, and marvellous is his power.

30Quando glorificardes o Senhor, exaltai-o quanto puderdes, pois ainda assim ele muito excederá; e, quando o exaltardes, empregai todas as vossas forças e não vos canseis, pois nunca podereis ir longe o bastante.

30When ye glorify the Lord, exalt him as much as ye can; for even yet will he far exceed: and when ye exalt him, put forth all your strength, and be not weary; for ye can never go far enough.

31Quem o viu, para que no-lo conte? E quem pode engrandecê-lo como ele é?

31Who hath seen him, that he might tell us? and who can magnify him as he is?

32Ainda há escondidas coisas maiores do que estas, pois vimos apenas algumas das suas obras.

32There are yet hid greater things than these be, for we have seen but a few of his works.

33Pois o Senhor fez todas as coisas, e aos piedosos deu a sabedoria.

33For the Lord hath made all things; and to the godly hath he given wisdom.
