1Louvemos agora os homens ilustres, e os nossos pais que nos geraram.

1Let us now praise famous men, and our fathers that begat us.

2O Senhor operou grande glória por meio deles, pelo seu grande poder, desde o princípio.

2The Lord hath wrought great glory by them through his great power from the beginning.

3Houve os que dominaram nos seus reinos, homens afamados pelo seu poder, que davam conselho pelo seu entendimento e anunciavam profecias;

3Such as did bear rule in their kingdoms, men renowned for their power, giving counsel by their understanding, and declaring prophecies:

4guias do povo pelos seus conselhos, e pelo seu conhecimento das letras próprias para o povo; sábias e eloquentes são as suas instruções;

4Leaders of the people by their counsels, and by their knowledge of learning meet for the people, wise and eloquent are their instructions:

5os que inventaram melodias musicais e recitaram versos por escrito;

5Such as found out musical tunes, and recited verses in writing:

6homens ricos, providos de capacidade, vivendo em paz nas suas moradas.

6Rich men furnished with ability, living peaceably in their habitations:

7Todos estes foram honrados nas suas gerações, e foram a glória dos seus tempos.

7All these were honoured in their generations, and were the glory of their times.

8Há dentre eles os que deixaram um nome depois de si, para que se contassem os seus louvores.

8There be of them, that have left a name behind them, that their praises might be reported.

9E há alguns que não têm memória; que pereceram como se nunca tivessem existido, e se tornaram como se nunca tivessem nascido, e os seus filhos depois deles.

9And some there be, which have no memorial; who are perished, as though they had never been; and are become as though they had never been born; and their children after them.

10Mas estes foram homens misericordiosos, cuja justiça não foi esquecida.

10But these were merciful men, whose righteousness hath not been forgotten.

11Com a sua descendência permanecerá continuamente uma boa herança, e os seus filhos estão dentro da aliança.

11With their seed shall continually remain a good inheritance, and their children are within the covenant.

12A sua descendência permanece firme, e os seus filhos por amor deles.

12Their seed standeth fast, and their children for their sakes.

13A sua descendência permanecerá para sempre, e a sua glória não será apagada.

13Their seed shall remain for ever, and their glory shall not be blotted out.

14Os seus corpos estão sepultados em paz, mas o seu nome vive para sempre.

14Their bodies are buried in peace; but their name liveth for evermore.

15O povo contará a sua sabedoria, e a congregação anunciará o seu louvor.

15The people will tell of their wisdom, and the congregation will shew forth their praise.

16Enoque agradou ao Senhor e foi trasladado, sendo exemplo de arrependimento para todas as gerações.

16Enoch pleased the Lord, and was translated, being an example of repentance to all generations.

17Noé foi achado perfeito e justo; no tempo da ira foi tomado em troca do mundo; por isso foi deixado como remanescente para a terra, quando veio o dilúvio.

17Noah was found perfect and righteous; in the time of wrath he was taken in exchange for the world; therefore was he left as a remnant unto the earth, when the flood came.

18Foi feita com ele uma aliança eterna, de que toda carne não mais pereceria pelo dilúvio.

18An everlasting covenant was made with him, that all flesh should perish no more by the flood.

19Abraão foi grande pai de muitos povos; em glória não houve outro semelhante a ele;

19Abraham was a great father of many people: in glory was there none like unto him;

20o qual guardou a lei do Altíssimo e esteve em aliança com ele; firmou a aliança na sua carne, e, quando foi provado, foi achado fiel.

20Who kept the law of the most High, and was in covenant with him: he established the covenant in his flesh; and when he was proved, he was found faithful.

21Por isso ele lhe assegurou com juramento que abençoaria as nações na sua descendência, e que o multiplicaria como o pó da terra, e exaltaria a sua descendência como as estrelas, e os faria herdar de mar a mar, e desde o rio até a extremidade da terra.

21Therefore he assured him by an oath, that he would bless the nations in his seed, and that he would multiply him as the dust of the earth, and exalt his seed as the stars, and cause them to inherit from sea to sea, and from the river unto the utmost part of the land.

22Com Isaque estabeleceu igualmente, por amor de Abraão, seu pai, a bênção de todos os homens e a aliança,

22With Isaac did he establish likewise for Abraham his father’s sake the blessing of all men, and the covenant,

23e a fez repousar sobre a cabeça de Jacó. Reconheceu-o na sua bênção, e deu-lhe uma herança, e repartiu as suas porções; entre as doze tribos as dividiu.

23And made it rest upon the head of Jacob. He acknowledged him in his blessing, and gave him an heritage, and divided his portions; among the twelve tribes did he part them.
