Eclesiástico 47

1E depois dele se levantou Natã, para profetizar no tempo de Davi.

1And after him rose up Nathan to prophesy in the time of David.

2Assim como a gordura é separada da oferta pacífica, assim foi Davi escolhido dentre os filhos de Israel.

2As is the fat taken away from the peace offering, so was David chosen out of the children of Israel.

3Brincava com os leões como com cabritos, e com os ursos como com cordeiros.

3He played with lions as with kids, and with bears as with lambs.

4Não matou ele um gigante, quando ainda era jovem? E não tirou o opróbrio do povo, quando levantou a mão com a pedra na funda e abateu a jactância de Golias?

4Slew he not a giant, when he was yet but young? and did he not take away reproach from the people, when he lifted up his hand with the stone in the sling, and beat down the boasting of Goliath?

5Pois invocou o Senhor Altíssimo, e ele lhe deu força na sua mão direita para matar aquele guerreiro poderoso e levantar o poder do seu povo.

5For he called upon the most high Lord; and he gave him strength in his right hand to slay that mighty warrior, and set up the horn of his people.

6Assim o povo o honrou com dezenas de milhares, e o louvou nas bênçãos do Senhor, porquanto lhe deu uma coroa de glória.

6So the people honoured him with ten thousands, and praised him in the blessings of the Lord, in that he gave him a crown of glory.

7Pois destruiu os inimigos de todos os lados, e reduziu a nada os filisteus, seus adversários, e quebrou o seu poder até o dia de hoje.

7For he destroyed the enemies on every side, and brought to nought the Philistines his adversaries, and brake their horn in sunder unto this day.

8Em todas as suas obras louvou o Santo Altíssimo com palavras de glória; de todo o coração cantou cânticos e amou aquele que o fez.

8In all his works he praised the Holy One most high with words of glory; with his whole heart he sung songs, and loved him that made him.

9Pôs também cantores diante do altar, para que com as suas vozes fizessem doce melodia e cantassem louvores cada dia nos seus cânticos.

9He set singers also before the altar, that by their voices they might make sweet melody, and daily sing praises in their songs.

10Embelezou as suas festas, e ordenou os tempos solenes até o fim, para que louvassem o seu santo nome, e o templo ressoasse desde a manhã.

10He beautified their feasts, and set in order the solemn times until the end, that they might praise his holy name, and that the temple might sound from morning.

11O Senhor tirou os seus pecados e exaltou o seu poder para sempre; deu-lhe uma aliança de reis e um trono de glória em Israel.

11The Lord took away his sins, and exalted his horn for ever: he gave him a covenant of kings, and a throne of glory in Israel.

12Depois dele levantou-se um filho sábio, e por amor dele habitou em largueza.

12After him rose up a wise son, and for his sake he dwelt at large.

13Salomão reinou num tempo de paz e foi honrado, pois Deus deu sossego ao redor dele, para que edificasse uma casa ao seu nome e preparasse o seu santuário para sempre.

13Solomon reigned in a peaceable time, and was honoured; for God made all quiet round about him, that he might build an house in his name, and prepare his sanctuary for ever.

14Quão sábio foste na tua mocidade e, como um rio, cheio de entendimento!

14How wise wast thou in thy youth and, as a flood, filled with understanding!

15A tua alma cobriu toda a terra, e tu a encheste de parábolas obscuras.

15Thy soul covered the whole earth, and thou filledst it with dark parables.

16O teu nome chegou longe, até as ilhas; e pela tua paz foste amado.

16Thy name went far unto the islands; and for thy peace thou wast beloved.

17As terras se maravilharam de ti pelos teus cânticos, e provérbios, e parábolas, e interpretações.

17The countries marvelled at thee for thy songs, and proverbs, and parables, and interpretations.

18Em nome do Senhor Deus, que é chamado o Senhor Deus de Israel, ajuntaste ouro como estanho e multiplicaste prata como chumbo.

18By the name of the Lord God, which is called the Lord God of Israel, thou didst gather gold as tin and didst multiply silver as lead.

19Inclinaste os teus lombos às mulheres, e pelo teu corpo foste posto em sujeição.

19Thou didst bow thy loins unto women, and by thy body thou wast brought into subjection.

20Manchaste a tua honra e profanaste a tua descendência, de modo que trouxeste ira sobre os teus filhos e te afligiste pela tua loucura.

20Thou didst stain thy honour, and pollute thy seed: so that thou broughtest wrath upon thy children, and wast grieved for thy folly.

21Assim o reino foi dividido, e de Efraim reinou um reino rebelde.

21So the kingdom was divided, and out of Ephraim ruled a rebellious kingdom.

22Mas o Senhor nunca deixará a sua misericórdia, nem perecerá nenhuma das suas obras, nem aniquilará a posteridade dos seus escolhidos, e não tirará a descendência daquele que o ama; por isso deu um remanescente a Jacó, e dele uma raiz a Davi.

22But the Lord will never leave off his mercy, neither shall any of his works perish, neither will he abolish the posterity of his elect, and the seed of him that loveth him he will not take away: wherefore he gave a remnant unto Jacob, and out of him a root unto David.

23Assim repousou Salomão com os seus pais, e da sua descendência deixou após si Roboão, a loucura do povo, homem sem entendimento, que desviou o povo pelo seu conselho. Houve também Jeroboão, filho de Nebate, que fez Israel pecar e mostrou a Efraim o caminho do pecado.

23Thus rested Solomon with his fathers, and of his seed he left behind him Roboam, even the foolishness of the people, and one that had no understanding, who turned away the people through his counsel. There was also Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who caused Israel to sin, and shewed Ephraim the way of sin:

24E os seus pecados se multiplicaram grandemente, de modo que foram expulsos da terra.

24And their sins were multiplied exceedingly, that they were driven out of the land.

25Pois buscaram toda maldade, até que veio sobre eles a vingança.

25For they sought out all wickedness, till the vengeance came upon them.
