Eclesiástico 6

1Em vez de amigo não te tornes inimigo; pois com isso herdarás má fama, vergonha e opróbrio; assim será o pecador de língua dobre.

1Instead of a friend become not an enemy; for thereby thou shalt inherit an ill name, shame, and reproach: even so shall a sinner that hath a double tongue.

2Não te exaltes no conselho do teu próprio coração, para que a tua alma não seja despedaçada como um touro que anda sozinho.

2Extol not thyself in the counsel of thine own heart; that thy soul be not torn in pieces as a bull straying alone.

3Comerás as tuas folhas, e perderás o teu fruto, e ficarás como árvore seca.

3Thou shalt eat up thy leaves, and lose thy fruit, and leave thyself as a dry tree.

4A alma perversa destruirá quem a possui, e o fará ser escarnecido dos seus inimigos.

4A wicked soul shall destroy him that hath it, and shall make him to be laughed to scorn of his enemies.

5A linguagem doce multiplica os amigos, e a língua bem-falante aumenta as saudações amáveis.

5Sweet language will multiply friends: and a fairspeaking tongue will increase kind greetings.

6Vive em paz com muitos; contudo, tem um só conselheiro entre mil.

6Be in peace with many: nevertheless have but one counsellor of a thousand.

7Se queres ganhar um amigo, prova-o primeiro e não te apresses a confiar nele.

7If thou wouldest get a friend, prove him first and be not hasty to credit him.

8Pois há amigo que o é por conveniência própria, e não permanecerá no dia da tua angústia.

8For some man is a friend for his own occasion, and will not abide in the day of thy trouble.

9E há amigo que, tornando-se inimigo, descobrirá a tua vergonha na contenda.

9And there is a friend, who being turned to enmity, and strife will discover thy reproach.

10Também há amigo que é companheiro de mesa, e não permanecerá no dia da tua aflição.

10Again, some friend is a companion at the table, and will not continue in the day of thy affliction.

11Mas na tua prosperidade será como tu mesmo, e mandará com ousadia nos teus servos.

11But in thy prosperity he will be as thyself, and will be bold over thy servants.

12Se fores abatido, estará contra ti e se esconderá da tua face.

12If thou be brought low, he will be against thee, and will hide himself from thy face.

13Separa-te dos teus inimigos e acautela-te dos teus amigos.

13Separate thyself from thine enemies, and take heed of thy friends.

14O amigo fiel é uma forte defesa, e quem o achou achou um tesouro.

14A faithful friend is a strong defence: and he that hath found such an one hath found a treasure.

15Nada se compara ao amigo fiel, e o seu valor é inestimável.

15Nothing doth countervail a faithful friend, and his excellency is invaluable.

16O amigo fiel é o remédio da vida, e os que temem o Senhor o acharão.

16A faithful friend is the medicine of life; and they that fear the Lord shall find him.

17Quem teme o Senhor dirigirá bem a sua amizade; pois como ele é, assim será também o seu próximo.

17Whoso feareth the Lord shall direct his friendship aright: for as he is, so shall his neighbour be also.

18Meu filho, recolhe a instrução desde a tua juventude, e assim acharás a sabedoria até a tua velhice.

18My son, gather instruction from thy youth up: so shalt thou find wisdom till thine old age.

19Chega-te a ela como quem lavra e semeia, e espera os seus bons frutos; pois pouco te cansarás em trabalhar por ela, mas logo comerás dos seus frutos.

19Come unto her as one that ploweth and soweth, and wait for her good fruits: for thou shalt not toil much in labouring about her, but thou shalt eat of her fruits right soon.

20Ela é muito desagradável aos ignorantes; quem não tem entendimento não permanecerá com ela.

20She is very unpleasant to the unlearned: he that is without understanding will not remain with her.

21Pesará sobre ele como uma pesada pedra de prova, e ele a lançará de si antes de muito tempo.

21She will lie upon him as a mighty stone of trial; and he will cast her from him ere it be long.

22Pois a sabedoria é conforme o seu nome, e não se manifesta a muitos.

22For wisdom is according to her name, and she is not manifest unto many.

23Presta ouvidos, meu filho, recebe o meu parecer e não rejeites o meu conselho;

23Give ear, my son, receive my advice, and refuse not my counsel,

24e põe os teus pés nos seus grilhões, e o teu pescoço na sua corrente.

24And put thy feet into her fetters, and thy neck into her chain.

25Inclina o teu ombro e carrega-a, e não te aborreças com as suas cadeias.

25Bow down thy shoulder, and bear her, and be not grieved with her bonds.

26Chega-te a ela de todo o teu coração, e guarda os seus caminhos com todas as tuas forças.

26Come unto her with thy whole heart, and keep her ways with all thy power.

27Busca e procura, e ela se te dará a conhecer; e, quando a tiveres alcançado, não a deixes ir.

27Search, and seek, and she shall be made known unto thee: and when thou hast got hold of her, let her not go.

28Pois por fim acharás nela o descanso, e isso se converterá na tua alegria.

28For at the last thou shalt find her rest, and that shall be turned to thy joy.

29Então os seus grilhões serão para ti uma forte defesa, e as suas correntes, um manto de glória.

29Then shall her fetters be a strong defence for thee, and her chains a robe of glory.

30Pois há sobre ela um adorno de ouro, e as suas faixas são cordões de púrpura.

30For there is a golden ornament upon her, and her bands are purple lace.

31Vesti-la-ás como um manto de honra, e a porás em redor de ti como uma coroa de alegria.

31Thou shalt put her on as a robe of honour, and shalt put her about thee as a crown of joy.

32Meu filho, se quiseres, serás instruído; e, se aplicares a tua mente, serás prudente.

32My son, if thou wilt, thou shalt be taught: and if thou wilt apply thy mind, thou shalt be prudent.

33Se gostares de ouvir, receberás entendimento; e, se inclinares o teu ouvido, serás sábio.

33If thou love to hear, thou shalt receive understanding: and if thou bow thine ear, thou shalt be wise,

34Põe-te no meio dos anciãos, e apega-te ao que é sábio.

34Stand in the multitude of the elders; and cleave unto him that is wise.

35Está disposto a ouvir todo discurso piedoso, e não te escapem as parábolas do entendimento.

35Be willing to hear every godly discourse; and let not the parables of understanding escape thee.

36E, se vires um homem de entendimento, vai cedo ter com ele, e gaste o teu pé os degraus da sua porta.

36And if thou seest a man of understanding, get thee betimes unto him, and let thy foot wear the steps of his door.

37Esteja a tua mente nos preceitos do Senhor, e medita continuamente nos seus mandamentos; ele firmará o teu coração e te dará a sabedoria que desejas.

37Let thy mind be upon the ordinances of the Lord and meditate continually in his commandments: he shall establish thine heart, and give thee wisdom at thine own desire.
