1Não tenhas ciúme da mulher do teu seio, e não lhe ensines uma má lição contra ti mesmo.

1Be not jealous over the wife of thy bosom, and teach her not an evil lesson against thyself.

2Não entregues a tua alma a uma mulher, para que ela ponha o pé sobre os teus bens.

2Give not thy soul unto a woman to set her foot upon thy substance.

3Não te encontres com uma prostituta, para que não caias nos seus laços.

3Meet not with an harlot, lest thou fall into her snares.

4Não frequentes muito a companhia de uma cantora, para que não sejas apanhado pelas suas seduções.

4Use not much the company of a woman that is a singer, lest thou be taken with her attempts.

5Não fites os olhos numa donzela, para que não caias por causa das coisas preciosas que há nela.

5Gaze not on a maid, that thou fall not by those things that are precious in her.

6Não entregues a tua alma às prostitutas, para que não percas a tua herança.

6Give not thy soul unto harlots, that thou lose not thine inheritance.

7Não olhes em redor pelas ruas da cidade, nem vagueies pelos seus lugares solitários.

7Look not round about thee in the streets of the city, neither wander thou in the solitary place thereof.

8Desvia os olhos da mulher formosa, e não contemples a formosura alheia; pois muitos foram enganados pela formosura de uma mulher; pois com ela o amor se acende como fogo.

8Turn away thine eye from a beautiful woman, and look not upon another’s beauty; for many have been deceived by the beauty of a woman; for herewith love is kindled as a fire.

9Não te sentes de modo algum com a mulher de outro homem, nem te recostes com ela nos teus braços, e não gastes o teu dinheiro com ela no vinho; para que o teu coração não se incline para ela e assim, pelo teu desejo, caias na perdição.

9Sit not at all with another man’s wife, nor sit down with her in thine arms, and spend not thy money with her at the wine; lest thine heart incline unto her, and so through thy desire thou fall into destruction.

10Não abandones um amigo antigo; pois o novo não se compara a ele; o amigo novo é como vinho novo: quando envelhecer, o beberás com prazer.

10Forsake not an old friend; for the new is not comparable to him: a new friend is as new wine; when it is old, thou shalt drink it with pleasure.

11Não invejes a glória do pecador; pois não sabes qual será o seu fim.

11Envy not the glory of a sinner: for thou knowest not what shall be his end.

12Não te deleites no que agrada aos ímpios; mas lembra-te de que não ficarão impunes até a sepultura.

12Delight not in the thing that the ungodly have pleasure in; but remember they shall not go unpunished unto their grave.

13Mantém-te longe do homem que tem poder de matar; assim não terás o temor da morte; e, se te aproximares dele, não cometas falta, para que não te tire logo a vida; lembra-te de que andas no meio de laços e de que caminhas sobre as ameias da cidade.

13Keep thee far from the man that hath power to kill; so shalt thou not doubt the fear of death: and if thou come unto him, make no fault, lest he take away thy life presently: remember that thou goest in the midst of snares, and that thou walkest upon the battlements of the city.

14Quanto puderes, conhece bem o teu próximo, e aconselha-te com os sábios.

14As near as thou canst, guess at thy neighbour, and consult with the wise.

15Seja a tua conversa com os sábios, e toda a tua comunicação na lei do Altíssimo.

15Let thy talk be with the wise, and all thy communication in the law of the most High.

16E comam e bebam contigo os homens justos, e seja a tua glória no temor do Senhor.

16And let just men eat and drink with thee; and let thy glorying be in the fear of the Lord.

17Pela mão do artífice será louvada a obra, e o governante sábio do povo pela sua palavra.

17For the hand of the artificer the work shall be commended: and the wise ruler of the people for his speech.

18O homem de má língua é perigoso na sua cidade, e o temerário no falar será odiado.

18A man of an ill tongue is dangerous in his city; and he that is rash in his talk shall be hated.
