Epístola de Barnabé 12

1Do mesmo modo, de novo define a respeito da cruz em outro profeta, que diz: E quando se cumprirão estas coisas? diz o Senhor. Quando uma árvore for dobrada e ficar de pé, e quando sangue gotejar de uma árvore. De novo és ensinado a respeito da cruz, e d'Aquele que havia de ser crucificado.

1In like manner again He defineth concerning the cross in another prophet, who saith; And when shall these things be accomplished? saith the Lord. Whenever a tree shall be bended and stand upright, and whensoever blood shall drop from a tree. Again thou art taught concerning the cross, and Him that was to be crucified.

2E diz de novo em Moisés, quando se fez guerra contra Israel por homens de outra nação, e para lhes lembrar, quando se fazia guerra contra eles, que por seus pecados foram entregues à morte; o Espírito diz ao coração de Moisés que fizesse um tipo da cruz e d'Aquele que havia de sofrer, para que, a menos, diz Ele, que ponham a sua esperança n'Ele, se faça guerra contra eles para sempre. Moisés, portanto, empilha armas umas sobre as outras no meio do combate, e, de pé em lugar mais alto do que todos, estendeu as mãos, e assim Israel de novo foi vitorioso. Depois, sempre que as baixava, eram mortos à espada.

2And He saith again in Moses, when war was waged against Israel by men of another nation, and that He might remind them when the war was waged against them that for their sins they were delivered unto death; the Spirit saith to the heart of Moses, that he should make a type of the cross and of Him that was to suffer, that unless, saith He, they shall set their hope on Him, war shall be waged against them for ever. Moses therefore pileth arms one upon another in the midst of the encounter, and standing on higher ground than any he stretched out his hands, and so Israel was again victorious. Then, whenever he lowered them, they were slain with the sword.

3Por que foi isto? Para que aprendessem que não podem ser salvos, a menos que ponham a sua esperança n'Ele.

3Wherefore was this? That they might learn that they cannot be saved, unless they should set their hope on Him.

4E de novo em outro profeta diz: O dia inteiro estendi as Minhas mãos a um povo desobediente que contradisse o Meu caminho justo.

4And again in another prophet He saith; The whole day long have I stretched out My hands to a disobedient people that did gainsay My righteous way.

5De novo Moisés faz um tipo de Jesus, como Ele havia de sofrer, e como Ele mesmo, a quem pensarão ter destruído, dará vida num emblema quando Israel caía. Pois o Senhor fez que toda espécie de serpentes os mordessem, e morreram (visto que a transgressão foi cometida em Eva por meio da serpente), para convencê-los de que, por causa da sua transgressão, seriam entregues à aflição da morte.

5Again Moses maketh a type of Jesus, how that He must suffer, and that He Himself whom they shall think to have destroyed shall make alive in an emblem when Israel was falling. For the Lord caused all manner of serpents to bite them, and they died (forasmuch as the transgression was wrought in Eve through the serpent), that He might convince them that by reason of their transgression they should be delivered over to the affliction of death.

6Sim, e além disso, embora Moisés desse o mandamento: Não tereis imagem fundida nem esculpida para o vosso Deus, ele mesmo fez uma, para lhes mostrar um tipo de Jesus. Assim Moisés faz uma serpente de bronze, e a ergue em lugar bem visível, e convoca o povo por proclamação.

6Yea and further though Moses gave the commandment; Ye shall not have a molten or a carved image for your God, yet he himself made one that he might show them a type of Jesus. So Moses maketh a brazen serpent, and setteth it up conspicuously, and summoneth the people by proclamation.

7Quando, pois, estavam reunidos, rogaram a Moisés que fizesse intercessão por eles para que fossem curados. E Moisés lhes disse: Sempre que, disse ele, algum de vós for mordido, venha à serpente que está posta no madeiro, e creia e espere que a serpente, estando ela mesma morta, pode dar vida; e imediatamente será salvo. E assim fizeram. Aqui de novo tens, também nestas coisas, a glória de Jesus, como n'Ele e para Ele são todas as coisas.

7When therefore they were assembled together they entreated Moses that he should offer up intercession for them that they might be healed. And Moses said unto them; Whensoever, said he, one of you shall be bitten, let him come to the serpent which is placed on the tree, and let him believe and hope that the serpent being himself dead can make alive; and forthwith he shall be saved. And so they did. Here again thou hast in these things also the glory of Jesus, how that in Him and unto Him are all things.

8Que diz, de novo, Moisés a Jesus (Josué), filho de Num, quando lhe dá este nome, como sendo profeta, para que todo o povo desse ouvidos somente a ele, porque o Pai revela todas as coisas a respeito do Seu Filho Jesus?

8What again saith Moses unto Jesus (Joshua) the son of Nun, when he giveth him this name, as being a prophet, that all the people might give ear to him alone, because the Father revealeth all things concerning His Son Jesus?

9Moisés, portanto, diz a Jesus, filho de Num, dando-lhe este nome, quando o enviou como espião à terra: Toma um livro nas tuas mãos e escreve o que o Senhor diz, como o Filho de Deus arrancará pela raiz toda a casa de Amaleque nos últimos dias.

9Moses therefore saith to Jesus the son of Nun, giving him this name, when he sent him as a spy on the land; Take a book in thy hands, and write what the Lord saith, how the Son of God shall cut up by the roots all the house of Amalek in the last days.

10Eis de novo Jesus, não um filho de homem, mas o Filho de Deus, e foi revelado na carne em figura. Visto que, então, os homens dirão que o Cristo é filho de Davi, o próprio Davi profetiza, temendo e entendendo o erro dos pecadores: O Senhor disse ao meu Senhor: Assenta-te à Minha direita até que ponha os teus inimigos por escabelo debaixo dos Teus pés.

10Behold again it is Jesus, not a son of man, but the Son of God, and He was revealed in the flesh in a figure. Since then men will say that Christ is the son of David, David himself prophesieth being afraid and understanding the error of sinners; The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on My right hand until I set thine enemies for a footstool under Thy feet.

11E de novo assim diz Isaías: O Senhor disse ao meu Cristo, o Senhor, cuja mão direita tomei, para que as nações dessem ouvidos diante d'Ele, e quebrarei a força dos reis. Vede como Davi O chama Senhor, e não O chama Filho.

11And again thus saith Isaiah; The Lord said unto my Christ the Lord, of whose right hand I laid hold, that the nations should give ear before Him, and I will break down the strength of kings. See how David calleth Him Lord, and calleth Him not Son.
