Epístola de Barnabé 15

1Além disso, a respeito do sábado está igualmente escrito nas Dez Palavras, nas quais Ele falou a Moisés face a face no monte Sinai: E santificareis o sábado do Senhor com mãos puras e com coração puro.

1Moreover concerning the Sabbath likewise it is written in the Ten Words, in which He spake to Moses face to face on Mount Sinai; And ye shall hallow the Sabbath of the Lord with pure hands and with a pure heart.

2E em outro lugar diz: Se os Meus filhos guardarem o sábado, então derramarei sobre eles a Minha misericórdia.

2And in another place He saith; If my sons observe the Sabbath then I will bestow My mercy upon them.

3Do sábado fala no princípio da criação: E Deus fez as obras das Suas mãos em seis dias, e terminou no sétimo dia, e descansou nele, e santificou-o.

3Of the Sabbath He speaketh in the beginning of the creation; And God made the works of His hands in six days, and He ended on the seventh day, and rested on it, and He hallowed it.

4Prestai atenção, filhos, o que isto significa: Terminou em seis dias. Quer dizer isto: que em seis mil anos o Senhor levará todas as coisas a um fim; pois o dia, para Ele, significa mil anos; e isto Ele mesmo testemunha a meu favor, dizendo: Eis que o dia do Senhor será como mil anos. Portanto, filhos, em seis dias, isto é, em seis mil anos, tudo chegará ao fim.

4Give heed, children, what this meaneth; He ended in six days. He meaneth this, that in six thousand years the Lord shall bring all things to an end; for the day with Him signifieth a thousand years; and this He himself beareth me witness, saying; Behold, the day of the Lord shall be as a thousand years. Therefore, children, in six days, that is in six thousand years, everything shall come to an end.

5E descansou no sétimo dia. Isto quer dizer: quando o Seu Filho vier, e abolir o tempo do Iníquo, e julgar os ímpios, e mudar o sol e a lua e as estrelas, então descansará verdadeiramente no sétimo dia.

5And He rested on the seventh day. This He meaneth; when His Son shall come, and shall abolish the time of the Lawless One, and shall judge the ungodly, and shall change the sun and the moon and the stars, then shall he truly rest on the seventh day.

6Sim, e além disso diz: Santificá-lo-ás com mãos puras e com coração puro. Se, portanto, um homem é capaz agora de santificar o dia que Deus santificou, embora seja puro de coração, nós nos desviamos completamente.

6Yea and furthermore He saith; Thou shalt hallow it with pure hands and with a pure heart. If therefore a man is able now to hallow the day which God hallowed, though he be pure in heart, we have gone utterly astray.

7Mas se, afinal, então e não antes, descansaremos verdadeiramente e o santificaremos, quando nós mesmos formos capazes de fazê-lo depois de justificados e de recebida a promessa, quando já não existir a iniquidade e todas as coisas tiverem sido feitas novas pelo Senhor, seremos capazes de santificá-lo então, porque nós mesmos teremos sido santificados primeiro.

7But if after all then and not till then shall we truly rest and hallow it, when we shall ourselves be able to do so after being justified and receiving the promise, when iniquity is no more and all things have been made new by the Lord, we shall be able to hallow it then, because we ourselves shall have been hallowed first.

8Finalmente diz-lhes: As vossas luas novas e os vossos sábados não os posso suportar. Vedes qual é o Seu sentido; não são os vossos atuais sábados que são aceitáveis [para Mim], mas o sábado que Eu fiz, no qual, quando tiver posto todas as coisas em repouso, farei o princípio do oitavo dia, que é o princípio de outro mundo.

8Finally He saith to them; Your new moons and your Sabbaths I cannot away with. Ye see what is His meaning; it is not your present Sabbaths that are acceptable [unto Me], but the Sabbath which I have made, in the which, when I have set all things at rest, I will make the beginning of the eighth day which is the beginning of another world.

9Por isso também guardamos o oitavo dia para regozijo, no qual também Jesus ressuscitou dos mortos, e, tendo sido manifestado, subiu aos céus.

9Wherefore also we keep the eighth day for rejoicing, in the which also Jesus rose from the dead, and having been manifested ascended into the heavens.
