Evangelho de Bartolomeu 3

1E partiu com eles para o monte Mauria, e sentou-se no meio deles.

1And he departed with them unto the mount Mauria, and sat in the midst of them.

2Mas eles hesitavam em interrogá-lo, temerosos.

2But they doubted to question him, being afraid.

3E Jesus respondeu e disse-lhes: Perguntai-me o que quiserdes que eu vos ensine, e eu vo-lo mostrarei. Pois ainda sete dias, e subo a meu Pai, e já não serei visto por vós nesta semelhança.

3And Jesus answered and said unto them: Ask me what ye will that I should teach you, and I will show it you. For yet seven days, and I ascend unto my Father, and I shall no more be seen of you in this likeness.

4Mas eles, ainda hesitantes, disseram-lhe: Senhor, mostra-nos o abismo, conforme a tua promessa.

4But they, yet doubting, said unto him: Lord, show us the deep (abyss) according unto thy promise.

5E Jesus disse-lhes: Não é bom para vós ver o abismo: contudo, se o desejais, conforme a minha promessa, vinde, segui-me e vede.

5And Jesus said unto them: It is not good for you to see the deep: notwithstanding, if ye desire it, according to my promise, come, follow me and behold.

6E levou-os a um lugar chamado Querubim, isto é, o lugar da verdade.

6And he led them away into a place that is called Cherubim, that is the place of truth.

7E acenou aos anjos do Ocidente, e a terra foi enrolada como um rolo de livro, e o abismo lhes foi revelado.

7And he beckoned unto the angels of the West, and the earth was rolled up like a volume of a book and the deep was revealed unto them.

8E quando os apóstolos o viram, caíram com o rosto por terra.

8And when the apostles saw it, they fell on their faces upon the earth.

9Mas Jesus levantou-os, dizendo: Não vos disse: 'Não é bom para vós ver o abismo'? E de novo acenou aos anjos, e o abismo foi coberto.

9But Jesus raised them up, saying: Said I not unto you, 'It is not good for you to see the deep'. And again he beckoned unto the angels, and the deep was covered up.
