Evangelho de Bartolomeu 5

1Bartolomeu diz-lhe: Declara-nos, Senhor, que pecado é mais pesado que todos os pecados?

1Bartholomew saith unto him: Declare unto us, Lord, what sin is heavier than all sins?

2Jesus diz-lhe: Em verdade te digo que a hipocrisia e a maledicência são mais pesadas que todos os pecados: pois por causa delas disse o profeta no salmo que 'os ímpios não se levantarão no julgamento, nem os pecadores no conselho dos justos', nem os ímpios no julgamento de meu Pai. Em verdade, em verdade vos digo que todo pecado será perdoado a todo homem, mas o pecado contra o Espírito Santo não será perdoado.

2Jesus saith unto him: Verily I say unto thee that hypocrisy and backbiting is heavier than all sins: for because of them, the prophet said in the psalm, that 'the ungodly shall not rise in the judgement, neither sinners in the council of the righteous', neither the ungodly in the judgement of my Father. Verily, verily, I say unto you, that every sin shall be forgiven unto every man, but the sin against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven.

3E Bartolomeu diz-lhe: Qual é o pecado contra o Espírito Santo?

3And Bartholomew saith unto him: What is the sin against the Holy Ghost?

4Jesus diz-lhe: Quem decretar contra qualquer homem que serviu a meu santo Pai, blasfemou contra o Espírito Santo: pois todo homem que serve a Deus com reverência é digno do Espírito Santo, e quem falar algo mau contra ele não será perdoado.

4Jesus saith unto him: Whosoever shall decree against any man that hath served my holy Father hath blasphemed against the Holy Ghost: For every man that serveth God worshipfully is worthy of the Holy Ghost, and he that speaketh anything evil against him shall not be forgiven.

5Ai daquele que jura pela cabeça de Deus, sim, ai (?) daquele que jura falsamente por ele a verdade. Pois há doze cabeças de Deus altíssimo: pois ele é a verdade, e nele não há mentira, nem perjúrio.

5Woe unto him that sweareth by the head of God, yea woe (?) to him that sweareth falsely by him truly. For there are twelve heads of God the most high: for he is the truth, and in him is no lie, neither forswearing.

6Vós, portanto, ide e pregai a todo o mundo a palavra da verdade, e tu, Bartolomeu, prega esta palavra a todo aquele que a desejar; e todos quantos nela crerem terão a vida eterna.

6Ye, therefore, go ye and preach unto all the world the word of truth, and thou, Bartholomew, preach this word unto every one that desireth it; and as many as believe thereon shall have eternal life.

7Bartolomeu diz: Ó Senhor, e se alguém pecar com pecado do corpo, qual é a sua recompensa?

7Bartholomew saith: O Lord, and if any sin with sin of the body, what is their reward?

8E Jesus disse: É bom se aquele que é batizado apresentar o seu batismo sem culpa: mas o prazer da carne se tornará um amante. Pois um só casamento pertence à sobriedade: pois em verdade te digo que aquele que peca depois da terceira união (esposa) é indigno de Deus.

8And Jesus said: It is good if he that is baptized present his baptism blameless: but the pleasure of the flesh will become a lover. For a single marriage belongeth to sobriety: for verily I say unto thee, he that sinneth after the third marriage (wife) is unworthy of God.

9Mas vós, pregai a todo homem que se guardem de tais coisas: pois não me afasto de vós e vos suprirei com o Espírito Santo.

9But ye, preach ye unto every man that they keep themselves from such things: for I depart not from you and I do supply you with the Holy Ghost.

10E Bartolomeu adorou-o com os apóstolos, e glorificou a Deus com fervor, dizendo: Glória a ti, Santo Pai, Sol inextinguível, incompreensível, cheio de luz. A ti seja a glória, a ti a honra e a adoração, pelos séculos sem fim. Amém.

10And Bartholomew worshipped him with the apostles, and glorified God earnestly, saying: Glory be to thee, Holy Father, Sun unquenchable, incomprehensible, full of light. Unto thee be glory, unto thee honour and adoration, world without end. Amen.
