Evangelho de Nicodemos 12

1Ora, quando os judeus ouviram que José tinha pedido o corpo de Jesus, procuraram-no, e aos doze homens que diziam que Jesus não nasceu de fornicação, e a Nicodemos e a muitos outros que tinham comparecido diante de Pilatos e declarado as boas obras d'Ele. Mas todos eles se esconderam, e somente Nicodemos foi visto por eles, pois era um chefe dos judeus. E Nicodemos lhes disse: Como entrastes na sinagoga? Os judeus lhe dizem: Como entraste tu na sinagoga? pois és cúmplice dele, e a sua porção será contigo na vida futura. Nicodemos diz: Amém, Amém. Do mesmo modo também José saiu e lhes disse: Por que estais irritados contra mim, por eu ter pedido o corpo de Jesus? eis que o depositei no meu túmulo novo, envolvendo-o em linho limpo, e rolei uma pedra sobre a porta da gruta. E não tratastes bem o justo, pois não vos arrependestes quando o crucificastes, mas ainda o traspassastes com uma lança.

1Now when the Jews heard that Joseph had begged the body of Jesus, they sought for him and for the twelve men which said that Jesus was not born of fornication, and for Nicodemus and many others which had come forth before Pilate and declared his good works. But all they hid themselves, and Nicodemus only was seen of them, for he was a ruler of the Jews. And Nicodemus said unto them: How came ye into the synagogue? The Jews say unto him: How didst thou come into the synagogue? for thou art confederate with him, and his portion shall be with thee in the life to come. Nicodemus saith: Amen, Amen. Likewise Joseph also came forth and said unto them: Why is it that ye are vexed against me, for that I begged the body of Jesus? behold I have laid it in my new tomb, having wrapped it in clean linen, and I rolled a stone over the door of the cave. And ye have not dealt well with the just one, for ye repented not when ye had crucified him, but ye also pierced him with a spear.

2Mas os judeus prenderam José e mandaram pô-lo em custódia até o primeiro dia da semana: e lhe disseram: Sabe que o tempo não nos permite fazer coisa alguma contra ti, porque o sábado está a raiar: mas sabe que não obterás sepultura, e daremos a tua carne às aves do céu. José lhes diz: Esta é a palavra de Golias, o jactancioso, que insultou o Deus vivo e o santo Davi. Pois Deus disse pelo profeta: Minha é a vingança, e Eu retribuirei, diz o Senhor. E agora, eis que um incircunciso, mas circunciso de coração, tomou água e lavou as mãos diante do sol, dizendo: Sou inocente do sangue deste homem justo: vede vós. E vós respondestes a Pilatos e dissestes: Caia o seu sangue sobre nós e sobre os nossos filhos. E agora receio que a ira do Senhor venha sobre vós e sobre os vossos filhos, como dissestes. Mas quando os judeus ouviram estas palavras, exasperaram-se na alma, e prenderam José e o levaram e o encerraram numa casa em que não havia janela, e puseram guardas à porta: e selaram a porta do lugar onde José estava encerrado.

2But the Jews took hold on Joseph and commanded him to be put in safeguard until the first day of the week: and they said unto him: Know thou that the time alloweth us not to do anything against thee, because the sabbath dawneth: but know that thou shalt not obtain burial, but we will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the heaven. Joseph saith unto them: This is the word of Goliath the boastful which reproached the living God and the holy David. For God said by the prophet: Vengeance is mine, and I will recompense, saith the Lord. And now, lo, one that was uncircumcised, but circumcised in heart, took water and washed his hands before the sun, saying: I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it. And ye answered Pilate and said: His blood be upon us and upon our children. And now I fear lest the wrath of the Lord come upon you and upon your children, as ye have said. But when the Jews heard these words they waxed bitter in soul, and caught hold on Joseph and took him and shut him up in an house wherein was no window, and guards were set at the door: and they sealed the door of the place where Joseph was shut up.

3E no dia de sábado os chefes da sinagoga e os sacerdotes e os levitas fizeram uma ordenação de que todos comparecessem na sinagoga no primeiro dia da semana. E toda a multidão levantou-se cedo e reuniu-se em conselho na sinagoga para decidir com que morte o matariam. E quando o conselho estava reunido, mandaram que fosse trazido com grande desonra. E quando abriram a porta, não o acharam. E todo o povo ficou fora de si e espantado, porque acharam os selos intactos, e Caifás tinha a chave. E não ousaram mais pôr as mãos sobre os que tinham falado em favor de Jesus diante de Pilatos.

3And upon the sabbath day the rulers of the synagogue and the priests and the Levites made an ordinance that all men should appear in the synagogue on the first day of the week. And all the multitude rose up early and took council in the synagogue by what death they should kill him. And when the council was set they commanded him to be brought with great dishonour. And when they had opened the door they found him not. And all the people were beside themselves and amazed, because they found the seals closed, and Caiaphas had the key. And they durst not any more lay hands upon them that had spoken in the behalf of Jesus before Pilate.
