Inácio aos Efésios 19

1E ocultas ficaram ao príncipe deste mundo a virgindade de Maria e o seu parto, e de igual modo a morte do Senhor — três mistérios de grande clamor — os quais se operaram no silêncio de Deus.

1And hidden from the prince of this world were the virginity of Mary and her child-bearing and likewise also the death of the Lord -- three mysteries to be cried aloud -- the which were wrought in the silence of God.

2Como, pois, foram manifestados aos séculos? Uma estrela resplandeceu no céu acima de todas as estrelas; e a sua luz era indizível, e a sua novidade causou espanto; e todas as demais constelações, juntamente com o sol e a lua, formaram um coro ao redor da estrela; mas ela superava a todas em resplendor; e havia pasmo para saber de onde provinha essa aparição estranha, tão dessemelhante de todas.

2How then were they made manifest to the ages? A star shone forth in the heaven above all the stars; and its light was unutterable, and its strangeness caused amazement; and all the rest of the constellations with the sun and moon formed themselves into a chorus about the star; but the star itself far outshone them all; and there was perplexity to know whence came this strange appearance which was so unlike them.

3A partir de então todo encantamento e todo feitiço se desvaneceram, a ignorância da maldade extinguiu-se, o império antigo foi destruído, quando Deus apareceu em semelhança de homem para novidade de vida eterna; e aquilo que fora determinado nos conselhos de Deus começou a cumprir-se. Daí todas as coisas se perturbaram, porque a abolição da morte começava a realizar-se.

3From that time forward every sorcery and every spell was dissolved, the ignorance of wickedness vanished away, the ancient kingdom was pulled down, when God appeared in the likeness of man unto newness of everlasting life; and that which had been perfected in the counsels of God began to take effect. Thence all things were perturbed, because the abolishing of death was taken in hand.
