Inácio aos Esmirniotas 1

1Inácio, que também é chamado Teóforo, à igreja de Deus Pai e de Jesus Cristo, o Amado, a qual foi misericordiosamente dotada de toda graça, repleta de fé e amor, não carecendo de dom algum, venerabilíssima e portadora de tesouros sagrados; à igreja que está em Esmirna da Ásia, em espírito irrepreensível e na palavra de Deus: abundante saudação.

1Ignatius, who is also Theophorus, to the church of God the Father and of Jesus Christ the Beloved, which hath been mercifully endowed with every grace, being filled with faith and love and lacking in no grace, most reverend and bearing holy treasures; to the church which is in Smyrna of Asia, in a blameless spirit and in the word of God abundant greeting.

2Glorifico a Jesus Cristo, o Deus que vos outorgou tamanha sabedoria; pois percebi que estais estabelecidos em fé inabalável, como se estivésseis pregados na cruz do Senhor Jesus Cristo, na carne e no espírito, e firmemente enraizados no amor pelo sangue de Cristo, plenamente persuadidos quanto a nosso Senhor de que Ele é verdadeiramente da linhagem de Davi segundo a carne, mas Filho de Deus pela vontade e poder divinos, verdadeiramente nascido de uma virgem e batizado por João para que toda a justiça fosse por Ele cumprida,

2I give glory to Jesus Christ the God who bestowed such wisdom upon you; for I have perceived that ye are established in faith immovable, being as it were nailed on the cross of the Lord Jesus Christ, in flesh and in spirit, and firmly grounded in love in the blood of Christ, fully persuaded as touching our Lord that He is truly of the race of David according to the flesh, but Son of God by the Divine will and power, truly born of a virgin and baptized by John that all righteousness might be fulfilled by Him,

3verdadeiramente pregado na carne por nossa causa sob Pôncio Pilato e Herodes o tetrarca (de cujo fruto nós somos, sim, de Sua mui bendita paixão); a fim de que levantasse um estandarte para todos os séculos mediante a Sua ressurreição, para os Seus santos e fiéis, quer entre judeus quer entre gentios, em um só corpo da Sua Igreja.

3truly nailed up in the flesh for our sakes under Pontius Pilate and Herod the tetrarch (of which fruit are we -- that is, of His most blessed passion); that He might set up an ensign unto all the ages through His resurrection, for His saints and faithful people, whether among Jews or among Gentiles, in one body of His Church.
