1Visto, pois, que me foi concedido ver-vos na pessoa de Damas, vosso piedoso bispo, e dos vossos dignos presbíteros Basso e Apolônio, e do meu conservo o diácono Zócio, de quem eu folgaria de ter alegria, porquanto ele é submisso ao bispo como à graça de Deus e ao presbitério como à lei de Jesus Cristo: —

1Forasmuch then as I was permitted to see you in the person of Damas your godly bishop and your worthy presbyters Bassus and Apollonius and my fellow-servant the deacon Zotion, of whom I would fain have joy, for that he is subject to the bishop as unto the grace of God and to the presbytery as unto the law of Jesus Christ: --
