1Portanto, enviaram imediatamente mensageiros e reuniram doze anciãos da tribo de Judá. E escreveram os nomes das doze tribos de Israel. E a sorte caiu sobre o piedoso ancião, o justo José. Então os sacerdotes responderam e disseram à minha bendita mãe: Vai com José, e permanece com ele até o tempo de teu matrimônio. O justo José, portanto, recebeu minha mãe e a levou para sua própria casa. E Maria encontrou Tiago Menor na casa de seu pai, abatido e triste por causa da perda de sua mãe, e ela o criou. Por essa razão Maria foi chamada mãe de Tiago. Depois disso, José a deixou em casa e foi para a oficina onde trabalhava em seu ofício de carpinteiro. E depois que a santa virgem passou dois anos em sua casa, sua idade era de exatamente catorze anos, incluindo o tempo em que ele a recebera.

And Mary found James the Less in his father's house, broken-hearted and sad on account of the loss of his mother, and she brought him up. Hence Mary was called the mother of James. Thereafter Joseph left her at home, and went away to the shop where he wrought at his trade of a carpenter. And after the holy virgin had spent two years in his house her age was exactly fourteen years, including the time at which he received her.
