1Então lhe enviaram embaixadores para tratar de paz, dizendo:

1So they sent ambassadors unto him to treat of peace, saying,

2Eis que nós, servos de Nabucodonosor, o grande rei, estamos prostrados diante de ti; trata-nos como bem te parecer.

2Behold, we the servants of Nabuchodonosor the great king lie before thee; use us as shall be good in thy sight.

3Eis que as nossas casas, e todos os nossos lugares, e todos os nossos campos de trigo, e os rebanhos, e as manadas, e todos os currais das nossas tendas estão diante de ti; usa deles como te aprouver.

3Behold, our houses, and all our places, and all our fields of wheat, and flocks, and herds, and all the lodges of our tents lie before thy face; use them as it pleaseth thee.

4Eis que também as nossas cidades e os seus habitantes são teus servos; vem e trata com eles como bem te parecer.

4Behold, even our cities and the inhabitants thereof are thy servants; come and deal with them as seemeth good unto thee.

5Assim os homens vieram a Holofernes e lhe declararam estas coisas.

5So the men came to Holofernes, and declared unto him after this manner.

6Então ele desceu para o litoral, ele e o seu exército, e pôs guarnições nas cidades altas, e tomou delas homens escolhidos como auxiliares.

6Then came he down toward the sea coast, both he and his army, and set garrisons in the high cities, and took out of them chosen men for aid.

7E eles e toda a região em redor os receberam com grinaldas, com danças e com tamboris.

7So they and all the country round about received them with garlands, with dances, and with timbrels.

8Contudo, ele destruiu as suas fronteiras e cortou os seus bosques sagrados; pois decretara destruir todos os deuses da terra, para que todas as nações adorassem somente Nabucodonosor, e todas as línguas e tribos o invocassem como deus.

8Yet he did cast down their frontiers, and cut down their groves: for he had decreed to destroy all the gods of the land, that all nations should worship Nabuchodonosor only, and that all tongues and tribes should call upon him as god.

9Chegou também defronte de Esdrelom, perto da Judeia, defronte do grande desfiladeiro da Judeia.

9Also he came over against Esdraelon near unto Judea, over against the great strait of Judea.

10E acampou entre Geba e Citópolis, e ali ficou um mês inteiro, para reunir todas as bagagens do seu exército.

10And he pitched between Geba and Scythopolis, and there he tarried a whole month, that he might gather together all the carriages of his army.
