Judite 9

1Judite prostrou-se com o rosto em terra, e pôs cinza sobre a cabeça, e descobriu o saco com que estava vestida; e, na hora em que se oferecia em Jerusalém, na casa do Senhor, o incenso daquela tarde, Judite clamou em alta voz e disse:

1Judith fell upon her face, and put ashes upon her head, and uncovered the sackcloth wherewith she was clothed; and about the time that the incense of that evening was offered in Jerusalem in the house of the Lord Judith cried with a loud voice, and said,

2Ó Senhor, Deus de meu pai Simeão, a quem deste uma espada para tomar vingança dos estrangeiros que desataram o cinto de uma virgem para a contaminar, e descobriram a sua coxa para a sua vergonha, e profanaram a sua virgindade para o seu opróbrio; pois disseste: Não será assim; e contudo eles o fizeram;

2O Lord God of my father Simeon, to whom thou gavest a sword to take vengeance of the strangers, who loosened the girdle of a maid to defile her, and discovered the thigh to her shame, and polluted her virginity to her reproach; for thou saidst, It shall not be so; and yet they did so:

3por isso entregaste os seus chefes à morte, de modo que tingiram de sangue o seu leito, enganados, e feriste os servos com os seus senhores, e os senhores sobre os seus tronos;

3Wherefore thou gavest their rulers to be slain, so that they dyed their bed in blood, being deceived, and smotest the servants with their lords, and the lords upon their thrones;

4e entregaste as suas mulheres à pilhagem, e as suas filhas ao cativeiro, e todos os seus despojos para serem repartidos entre os teus filhos amados, que foram movidos pelo teu zelo e abominaram a profanação do seu sangue e te invocaram em seu auxílio. Ó Deus, ó meu Deus, ouve-me também a mim, que sou viúva.

4And hast given their wives for a prey, and their daughters to be captives, and all their spoils to be divided among thy dear children; which were moved with thy zeal, and abhorred the pollution of their blood, and called upon thee for aid: O God, O my God, hear me also a widow.

5Pois tu fizeste não só aquelas coisas, mas também as que aconteceram antes e as que se seguiram depois; tu pensaste nas coisas que são agora e nas que hão de vir.

5For thou hast wrought not only those things, but also the things which fell out before, and which ensued after; thou hast thought upon the things which are now, and which are to come.

6Sim, as coisas que determinaste estavam prontas e disseram: Eis-nos aqui; pois todos os teus caminhos estão preparados, e os teus juízos estão na tua presciência.

6Yea, what things thou didst determine were ready at hand, and said, Lo, we are here: for all thy ways are prepared, and thy judgments are in thy foreknowledge.

7Pois eis que os assírios se multiplicaram no seu poder; exaltam-se com os seus cavalos e cavaleiros; gloriam-se na força dos seus infantes; confiam no escudo, e na lança, e no arco, e na funda; e não sabem que tu és o Senhor que destrói as guerras: o Senhor é o teu nome.

7For, behold, the Assyrians are multiplied in their power; they are exalted with horse and man; they glory in the strength of their footmen; they trust in shield, and spear, and bow, and sling; and know not that thou art the Lord that breakest the battles: the Lord is thy name.

8Abate a força deles com o teu poder, e derruba o seu vigor na tua ira; pois resolveram profanar o teu santuário, e contaminar o tabernáculo onde repousa o teu nome glorioso, e derrubar com a espada o chifre do teu altar.

8Throw down their strength in thy power, and bring down their force in thy wrath: for they have purposed to defile thy sanctuary, and to pollute the tabernacle where thy glorious name resteth and to cast down with sword the horn of thy altar.

9Olha para a soberba deles, e envia a tua ira sobre as suas cabeças; dá à minha mão, de viúva, a força para o que concebi.

9Behold their pride, and send thy wrath upon their heads: give into mine hand, which am a widow, the power that I have conceived.

10Fere, pelo engano dos meus lábios, o servo com o príncipe, e o príncipe com o servo; abate a sua altivez pela mão de uma mulher.

10Smite by the deceit of my lips the servant with the prince, and the prince with the servant: break down their stateliness by the hand of a woman.

11Pois o teu poder não está na multidão, nem a tua força nos valentes; mas tu és o Deus dos aflitos, o auxílio dos oprimidos, o amparo dos fracos, o protetor dos desamparados, o salvador dos desesperados.

11For thy power standeth not in multitude nor thy might in strong men: for thou art a God of the afflicted, an helper of the oppressed, an upholder of the weak, a protector of the forlorn, a saviour of them that are without hope.

12Rogo-te, rogo-te, ó Deus de meu pai e Deus da herança de Israel, Senhor dos céus e da terra, Criador das águas, Rei de toda criatura, ouve a minha oração;

12I pray thee, I pray thee, O God of my father, and God of the inheritance of Israel, Lord of the heavens and earth, Creator of the waters, king of every creature, hear thou my prayer:

13e faze que a minha palavra e o meu engano sejam a ferida e o golpe daqueles que planejaram coisas cruéis contra a tua aliança, e contra a tua casa santa, e contra o cume de Sião, e contra a casa da possessão dos teus filhos.

13And make my speech and deceit to be their wound and stripe, who have purposed cruel things against thy covenant, and thy hallowed house, and against the top of Sion, and against the house of the possession of thy children.

14E faze que toda nação e tribo reconheça que tu és o Deus de todo poder e força, e que não há outro que proteja o povo de Israel senão tu.

14And make every nation and tribe to acknowledge that thou art the God of all power and might, and that there is none other that protecteth the people of Israel but thou.
